    theatrre artist while her father was a great URDU poet and lyrist.

    b) She made her film debut as laxmi in Shyam Bengal Ankur (1974) for which shereceived the national award for best actress. Later on she acted with prominent director

    like Satyajit roy, Mirnal sen, Gautam ghosh and others.

    c) She dominated the parallel cinema since 70s and 80s, at the same time she appearedin commercial hindi cinema and gave hit like Amar Akbar Anthony and Fakira.

    d) She is the winner of five national award for the film Ankur, and also received Filmfareaward for playing a betrayal wife in in the film Arth in 1983.
