    BRIDGE NAMEPLATES AND NUMBER PLATES

    1 GENERAL

    1.1 SCOPE

    This Specification sets out the requirements for the supply of bridge nameplates and number plates,

    and associated fixing components.

    It also sets out the requirements for installation of the nameplates or number plates where the Contract

    includes their installation.

    This Specification does not cover the supply of bridge opening plaques.

    1.2 STRUCTURE OF THE SPECIFICATION

    This Specification includes a series of annexures that detail additional requirements.

    1.2.1 Schedule of Identified Records

    The records listed in Annexure B345/C are Identified Records for the purposes of Specification

    TfNSW Q Annexure Q/E.

    1.2.2 Referenced Documents

    Unless otherwise specified, the applicable issue of a referenced document, other than an TfNSW

    Specification, is the issue current at the date one week before the closing date for tenders, or where no

    issue is current at that date, the most recent issue.

    Standards, specifications and test methods are referred to in abbreviated form (e.g. AS 1234). For

    convenience, the full titles are given in Annexure B345/M.

    2 TYPES AND QUANTITY

    2.1 GENERAL

    The design of nameplates and number plates is controlled by the Principal. Do not modify the designs

    without a written approval from the Principal.

    The material, dimensions, legend and countersunk hole details of the different types of bridge

    nameplates and number plates, and their associated fixing screws and bolts, must be in accordance

    with the Standard Bridge Drawings shown in Table B345.1, except for the bridge numbers and year

    which will be different for different bridges.

    2.2 QUANTITY

    Provide the number of nameplates or number plates as shown on the Drawings, or as stated on the

    manufacturing order.

    Where not shown on the Drawings, provide a replacement nameplate where the original nameplate is

    removed during widening of bridges or culverts or where there is no original nameplate on the

    widened bridges or culverts.

    Where not shown on the Drawings, provide an additional nameplate where the original nameplate is

    retained on widened bridges or culverts in close proximity to the original nameplate.

    3 MANUFACTURE

    3.1 GENERAL

    Manufacture the bridge nameplates and number plates to the details shown in the applicable TfNSW

    Standard Bridge Drawing shown in Table B345.1.

    3.2 MANUFACTURING FACILITY

    Provide certification that the supplier of the nameplates and number plates has control or ownership of

    a facility which has the capacity to manufacture a wide variety of cast metal products.

    3.3 MATERIALS

    The copper alloy for the casting of the plates must be C92610A or C92710 to AS 1565, as specified in

    the relevant Standard Bridge Drawing.

    Fixing screws and bolts must be made of commercial grade brass, with a minimum strength of 250

    MPa.

    3.4 CASTING AND FINISHING

    Use a pattern for casting of the plates which, unless it is provided by the Principal, will require a new

    pattern to be specially made by the manufacturer.

    The bridge numbers and year to be cast will be specified on the Drawings or manufacturing order, and

    must be of the same font as the lettering shown on the Drawings.

    After casting, polish the raised portion of the face and the edges of the plates.

    3.5 ATTACHMENT ACCESSORIES

    Provide concrete inserts to attach nameplates to concrete structures which are to be constructed under

    the Contract. Provide expanding masonry anchors to fix nameplates or number plates to existing

    concrete structures.

    4 PACKAGING AND DELIVERY

    Pack all finished items to prevent scratching of the surfaces and damage to threads.

    Pack nameplates and number plates separately from the fixing screws or bolts. Where more than one

    nameplate or number plate has been ordered, pack them separately.

    Where the Contract is for supply only, the delivery address, which may be anywhere in New South

    Wales, will be stated on the manufacturing order.

    5 INSTALLATION

    This clause applies only when installation forms part of the Contract.

    5.1 MOUNTING - GENERAL

    Mount the nameplates and number plates on various elements in the manner and location in

    accordance with the Standard Bridge Drawings shown in Table B345.2.

    For nameplates attached to concrete structures which are to be constructed under the Contract, install

    them recessed in the concrete so that it is set flush with the concrete surface.

    For nameplates and the number plates which are to be fixed to existing concrete structures, mount

    them proud of the concrete surface.

    Drill and tap holes and use screws to fix nameplates or number plates to pedestrian/cycle bridge steel

    railings.

    5.2 MOUNTING - ADDITIONAL NAMEPLATE OR NEW NUMBER PLATE

    Where an additional nameplate is required for widened bridge or culvert, or where a new number plate

    is required for an existing bridge or culvert, install the new plate in close proximity to the existing

    nameplate.

    If the existing bridge or culvert has no nameplate, mount the number plate in the same manner as a

    nameplate.

    6 QUALITY RECORDS AND WARRANTY

    6.1 QUALITY RECORDS

    Maintain quality records for the despatched items. Record the actual grade of copper alloy for each

    finished item.

    6.2 WARRANTY

    Provide a minimum warranty period of six months for the nameplates and number plates covering

    defective workmanship, material and process.

    No warranty is required against vandalism or accidental damage.
