What Are We Waiting For?

I have just returned from a month of classes at Duke Divinity School’s Course of Study. It was challenging, but I’ve been doing it for several years now, and I’ve gotten into a routine. Whenever I go there I have the same daily schedule, the same favorite place to study, the same few places I know I can have a good meal, and I have the company of the same good friends I have grown accustomed to seeing.

After a month of being away, coming back and starting a new routine again isn’t always easy. Changing routine is a challenge sometimes. It usually takes me a while to shift gears. I think that’s just part of the human condition. I sometimes wonder what am I waiting for? It’s the same with the church. Sometimes, changing the way we do things or changing what we do to accomplish the church’s mission is hard. Sometimes it’s a struggle to make changes in our ministry and mission. But the church is always called to adapt to changing challenges. All of us must be willing to adapt to a changing world and do what we must to make new disciples. What are we waiting for?

Blessings,Charles
