The Primary Election—Next Tuesday ia Primary Election day throughout this

State. It is a day tet aside by statute for each party to selectits nominees for the General Election in November.

Too few citizens of this State or of the entire Nationlealixe the importance of the Primaries. The best and moat•qualified candidates of each party should receive the nomina-tion* in the Primary, so that in theCneral Election the voter*•will know that they are voting for the best nominees availablein their respective parties.

Unless residents spend some time and thought on ob-taining accurate information on all candidates in the field, andthen forming their opinions as to which are the best qualified, they will not be doing justice to themselves or to the candi-date* when they go to the polls on Tuesday.

The men and women who will eventually make ouiState laws, operate our County government, handle our Town-ahip business will be nominated in next Tuesday's Primaries,It is the duty of every citizen to go to the polls, and it is to hibenefit to be able to cast his ballot intelligently.

Let*. Advertise CnnSotd^Township Committeeman Frederick G. Sykes' sugges-

tion in last week's issue of this paper that steps should be takento advertise Cranford as a fine residential community hasaroused considerable discussion and favorable commentaround town,

Cranford i* one of the finest residential communitiesalong the Jersey Central Railroad, but few people outside ofCranford are aware of the fact. Consequently, when theybegin looking around for a site for a new home or a residencealready built, they pass by Cranford and go on to our neigh-boring town* of Westfield, Plainneid. Summit, whose pro-gressive residents keep their town* well advertised.

Not only does Cranford have excellent residential sec-tion*, but it ha* many other advantages which will not befound in any community situated as closely to the metropolis.Cranford has a beautiful park system, excellent schools, churches of every denomination, is served by a trunk sewer, has a very moderate tax rate, has modern and efficient poll _and fire departments, a progressive group of merchants, civicand social clubs to suit the needs of everyone, and a friendlyand neighborly spirit prevails throughout the township.

Mr. Sykes' suggestion is a progressive one, and onethat ahould be followed up by all local organizations and.should also get the consideration of the Township Committee.

just and helpful raUUons with our Jel-tow men, than U something wrong withour concept of Ood.

Mr. Allan, who U a member of theBoard of Lectureship of The MotherChurch. The Flnt Church of ChrUt.Scientist, In Boston, Massachusetts, hadehpsen.for 6U subject, -ChrtstlanScience: A Religion of Service- Hemade clear, by relating several •loriesor parables with which Jesus Illustratedhis teachings, that Jesus stuasul thethought of service.

True aervtce, as understood In Chris-tian Science, the lecturer explained, battwo ildet—Its Oodward side and Itsmanwsrd aide; response to Ood andresponsibility to men. Religion, heheld, has two sides—getting and living;receiving and reflecting; hearing anddoing.

Mr, Allan referred to some tenden-cies which Under usefulness, such asoveraealousness. meddlesotnenets, en-tering uninvited into the affairs ofothers, a desln for prominence, a wil-lingness to serve only In higher offices,hi the more prominent positions, Thislatter case of selOahness, he declared, frequently keeps Its victim In uieleis-ness.

Mr. Allah explained that ChrtstlanScience teaches that Ood Is Love; OodU Mind; the divine Principle of theuniverse Including man, and that manis made In His likeness and expreswaHim; that man. God's likeness, alwayareflects Love, Intelligence, and the gov-ernment of Ood. In our relationshipwith each other, he made dear, we canreflect these qualities, can truly serveour fellow men In proportion to our hu-mility and our understanding of Truth'.

Domination, which Is the opposite oftrue service, he pointed out, has Itsroot In an exaltation of self; self-im-portance and self-righteousness, whichIs the opposite of humility, and It not acharacteristic of man as he really Is,

Mr. Allan tpoke of the love of moneyas an obstacle to true service,: andquoted the sayings of. Jesus and of PaulIn support of his statements. He heldthat business organisations which havean enduring foundation arc thosewhose primary Intention la service:those which are based,on .the»OoidenRule.

He pointed out that scientific Chris-tianity denjands more'than renderingservice to our friends,, that simply re-straining ourselves from doing sn en-emy harm is not conforming to • theQolden Rule. Be maintained that thisrule cannot be kept negatively, that

Touching wpaa the subject ot heallag, Mr. Allan madt dear that Jaeuadid not la tome mysterious way bestowupon hit dMptst aagio powan, but httaught them what was rimnary forthem to know i s order to render a mIce to their fellow men, to niolce lathe omaliwtttnui aod ocanlpotence ofOod, wnkh Is tht basis of healing. Onebegins the practice of Christian Science, the lecturer explained, the moment hebegins to think rightly, or from a pure-IT Christian standpoint. ChristianScience practice, be said. Is the prac-tice of righteousness to one's ownthought and life. Nothing ihort ofright thinking and right acting, from apurely spiritual viewpoint, he declared. Is Christian Science practice, and tothe extent that this Is done, effects orhealing will naturally follow.

The Christian Scientist, the lecturersaid, Is constantly and conscientiouslyendeavoring to flt himself to heal, andto do this, ht knows he neede more hu-mility, more love, more wbdom, a bet-ter understanding of Ood and His laws, and a dearer visfcm of nun sa Ood'sexpression. To thai end. ht explained,he studies tht Bible and the ChristianBdenee textbook, "Science and Healthwith Key to the Scriptures,'' by MaryBaker Eddy,

In concluding. Mr. Allan declaredthat the Influence of Christian Bclenceteaching Is awakening humanity to aeethat distresses, which were formerly re-garded as acU of Ood, and. therefore,to be endured with becoming resigna-tion, are not of Ood, but a n evils whichshould be welcome and destroyed, andthat because of thla awakening, there Isa growing demand (or freedom fromdiscord, and an lneiitence that auch afreedom' la humanity! right This demand. he affirmed, can be met byChristian Science.
