In 1995, Hurricane Grill & Wings® opened its first location overlooking the ocean in Fort Pierce, Florida. Famous for their 32 signature sauces and flavors of award-winning jumbo chicken wings, Hurricane Grill & Wings® has created a unique restaurant experience where patrons can relax and enjoy delicious food, exhilarating tastes, in an island-inspired atmosphere.

Since opening, Hurricane Grill & Wings® has expanded their operations to 48 franchised locations in nine states. Their mission is to deliver a remarkable experience to every guest, everyday. Hurricane Grill & Wings® is committed to quality, value and total guest satisfaction in all they do.

The company has set standards to ensure it operates as a responsible corporate citizen. It has embarked on a program for each location to recycle a percentage of

their cooking oils into the making of biodiesel fuel as well as a plan to reduce their energy consumption while improving the overall look of each restaurant.

For Gus Rubio, the owner of the newly built Pembroke Pines, Florida location, it was important to reduce operating costs and make sure his restaurant was as energy-efficient as possible. He heard about LED lighting and felt it was the perfect solution to meet his needs.

To accomplish this goal, Gus turned to the LED lighting Experts™ at LED Source®.

The original design called for the use of both traditional incandescent and fluorescent lighting. This included 107 BR30 bulbs at 65W each, 24 PAR30 bulbs at 60W each, and 19 fluorescent 2x4 troffers operating at 87W each.

Working with the architect for the new location, the Design Team from LED Source® was able to reduce the total number of lamps and fixtures from 150 to 122, thus further reducing energy and operating costs.

“We found LED Source® very beneficial in providing design, pricing and financing for LED lighting packages at our locations. In addition, they have assisted with finding local utility rebates to further add to the already great savings we are receiving from the LED lighting. Thanks for all your great work.” - Mark Bartholomay, Chief Development Officer, Hurricane Grill and Wings®

The challenge

BR30 and BR40 LED Lamps

When compared to a traditional incandescent BR30 bulb that lasts only 2,000 hours, an LED BR30 lamp provides an average savings of 75% in lighting energy and lasts up 50,000 hours.
