THE YEAR OF FAITH “Jesus, I believe, help my unbelief!” Mark 9:24 Teach me your ways, O LORD. Psalm 25:4

Here’s the steeple, open the door, and where are all the young people?

The POWER of Grandparents: don’t underestimate it!--“Father Gregory, can we have Adoration during Faith Formation classes?” “Yes, this is a great idea, can I write about it in my column?” I replied. “Yes, but don’t use our names, just say some grandparents are do-ing it.”

POWER to the end—Years ago I was called to anoint a dying elderly woman in a nursing home. There at her bedside was her granddaughter. “Does your grandmoth-er have any favorite prayers?” I asked. The young lady said that her grandmother had a love for Mary. So, I be-gan praying the Memorarae, and throughout our visit prayed it numerous times. Towards the end of our visit the granddaughter said, “Grandma, you’re teaching me a new prayer, I think I’m getting it down.”

Don’t underestimate the influential POWER of grandparents! The grandparent parishioners at Ascen-sion began adoring our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament at Ascension Church this past Wednesday during Faith For-mation Classes. Awesome! Now on Wednesdays during Faith Formation Class we can tell our students, “Hey, don’t forget, right at this very moment you’ve got grand-parents praying for you!” THANK YOU JESUS! AND THANK YOU GRANDPARENTS! Now THIS is a GREAT way to reach out to young people with the GOOD NEWS of Jesus Christ.

Be assured of my prayers,

Fr. Gregory

PS Anyone is welcome to join these grandparents on As-cension Faith Formation Wednesdays from 5:40—8:15pm (stop in for 5 seconds, 5 minutes or 50 minutes). I especially encourage parents of students to come and pray for your children. On Wednesdays when the choir practices they will repose the Blessed Sacrament when the choir arrives and continue to adore our Lord present in the tabernacle.

Class of 2013 – Be sure to check the mail for your invitation to the celebration mass and dinner in your honor! It will be Satur-day, May 11th at the 5 p.m. mass at Ascension. Dinner will be immediately after mass in the social hall. If you are new to St. Bernard or Ascension parishes, we may have missed your name. If so, please contact Lori Kasel at 612.386.9033 or [email protected] and we’ll send out your invitation. Please RSVP for this event by May 4th at the number and email above. Thanks!

THANK YOU! On behalf of both our parishes I express GRATITUDE for all the indi-viduals and groups that made the visit of the National Pilgrim Virgin Statue of Our Lady of Fatima such a blessing for so many parishioners and non-parishioners alike. I heard many positive comments on the blessing it was to have this great Day of Prayer for our 2 parishes. May Mary, our spiritual mother, continue to lead us deeper in our rela-tionship with her son Jesus. I want to especially thank the following parishioners: Rita Fahey and Helen Hilgers (information table), Helen Nicklaus (Adoration), Mike Worm and Pat Hegseth and the KC’s (standing guard with Our Lady), Irene Drees (meals for Mr. Bill Sock-ey), Dick and Pat Storms (transporting Bill to next destination in in-clement weather), Carol Symanitz, Julie Kleindl, Kara Wickenhauser and all Faith Formation Teachers (coordinating our Faith Formation Students visit), Sr. Jancy and St. Bernard Teachers (coordinating our Mass, student Eucharistic Adoration, and talk by Bill), Dean Johnson (busing Faith Formation students to and from visit), and the World Apostolate of Fatima and Mr. Bill Sockey for sponsoring the visit.

This fall, the Archbishop Harry J. Flynn Catechetical Institute will begin another two-year course. The classes will be held at the Church of The Epiphany in Coon Rapids. Under the direction of Mr. Jeff Cavins and taught by some of the best instructors in the Twin Cities, the program follows the four pillars of the Catechism of the Catholic Church and will make sense of all things Catholic, deepen your faith, and lay out the roadmap to heaven. The classes are divided into four eleven-week modules and meet on Monday evenings, 7 to 9 pm, with two Saturday morning formative sessions per module. Applications are now being accepted through June 1, 2013, for the class beginning in September. For more information and an application, call (651) 962-5028 or visit www.saintpaulseminary.org.
