HUNTERS HILL PUBLIC SCHOOL ‘Excellence in Learning for Success in Life’
AMITY – Newsletter 2019
Term 1 Week 1
Principal’s Report
A warm welcome back to the families of Hunters Hill Public School. After Best Start, we look forward
to our new Kindergarten families joining us next Monday. The students in Years 1 to 6 are settling into
their new 2019 classes. We are very excited about the many and varied learning opportunities to be
provided throughout the year. The staff have been busily organising and preparing for the year and
are looking forward to delivering ongoing quality educational programs across all Key Learning
Areas throughout Semesters One and Two.
Welcome to Hunters Hill Public School
I would like to welcome to our school new staff members who are already providing a positive
impact across the school with their energy and enthusiasm. We welcome Mr Jim Fogarty who is
teaching 5/6JF, Miss Caroline Murray who is teaching 5/6CM, Mrs Mel Sunderland as our Learning
and Support Teacher (LaST) and Mrs Deborah Woodley-Page who joins the administrative team.
We wish them all the best as they settle into their new school.
We also welcome back Mrs Jenni Williams to 1JW after taking leave last year and Mr Jake Simpson
who will be taking on sports activities and carnival convenor.
The HHPS P&C
There are many opportunities for families to join in activities. The P&C, our parent organisation,
supports the school financially and provides important parent viewpoints on school issues. The P&C
meets twice a term and provides a good way for new parents to join the school community.
Text books and Exercise Books
Students have been supplied with their exercise books and text books. Invoices for the books and
the term’s activities will be issued soon.
New Eulbertie Playground
The new Eulbertie playground is mostly completed. Once the fixed equipment is installed we should
have full use of our fantastic new playground within the next couple of weeks. We ask that you
continue to access the school using the Alexandra Street entrance.

2019 Class Parents
2019 Parent Information Night
Emergency Procedures
On Wednesday 13th February teachers will hold
information sessions to provide parents with an
opportunity to learn about class programs and
procedures.
The sessions will be held as follows:
K-2: 5:00pm - 5:45pm
3-6: 6:00pm - 6:45pm
Teachers will outline their class routines,
expectations and teaching/learning programs,
as well as answer any questions you may have. I
encourage you to attend these sessions to learn
how to best support your child in their new class
this year.
The ‘meet the teacher’ evening is not a time for
individual interviews. Parents are encouraged to
seek interviews with the class teachers when
issues of concern arise. For this, please arrange
appointments at mutually acceptable times.
If you would like to be a Class Parent for your
child’s class, please let your child’s teacher
know as soon as possible. The role of class
parent is a significant one that needs to be filled
each year. The role is to help the class teacher
coordinate school events throughout the year.
We value and need class parents to provide the
best possible opportunities for the children.
Each year all staff and students are involved in
Emergency Drills. The WHS committee ensures
that all staff are introduced to the procedures.
These procedures are also located within
classrooms. The school went through a
mandatory WHS audit last year to ensure we
met the WHS guidelines. The Department of
Education's Work Health and Safety unit has
advised us that in an event of a threat within a
school, the school should arrange an immediate
evacuation and if the event involved a person
the school should implement lockdown
procedures. The school will inform parents should
these events take place.
We have a number of anaphylactic students
within our school. All parents can help by
encouraging their child to avoid sharing or
trading food and eating utensils. Encouraging
children to wash their hands after eating may
also be helpful to avoid mild allergy symptoms
such as a skin rash. All HHPS staff are trained in
the management of this health condition. For
further information please visit the link to food
allergies and Anaphylaxis information for
schools.

Skoolbag App
We encourage all parents and caregivers to
download the Skoolbag App. The app is a vital
part of how the school communicates with
families as it details calendar events,
notifications and notes relevant to school
activities.

Upcoming Dates to Remember
HHPS uses Flexischools for a range of services.
For new families at HHPS please follow the steps
below to set up your account.
For all existing families please log on and update
your child’s class for 2019 now so that it is ready
when you need to use it. Please remember to
ensure you confirm any orders for your child.
A number of parents last year, using the app on
their phone or other device, forgot the last step
and consequently their child was left without
lunch.
Step 1: Register
Go to flexischools.com.au from your computer
or mobile device. Register for an account and
add your children’s name to get started.
Step 2: Top-up
Top-up your account using VISA, MasterCard,
PayPal or by direct deposit. We recommend
topping up your account by $20. We'll email you
a reminder when your account is running low.
Step 3: Order and Pay
Order from the range of school services which
could include canteen, uniform shop, events,
fundraisers, fee collection, photocopying and
more.
Step 4: Review or Edit
For canteen orders: Your order is now shown on
the first screen along with your child’s name.
You can view, change or cancel the orders at a
later time, by logging in again. You can also
create a repeating order out of an existing
order, so you never need to remember canteen
day again! Remember to check the date to
ensure you have ordered for the correct day.
