END OF TERM
I can’t believe we are in Week 10 of Term 2 already.
The term has gone so fast and has been incredibly
busy. I’m really proud of our students and staff for
such a great term. There is fantastic learning taking
place in classrooms and we have seen some huge
progress in aspects of literacy and numeracy across all
grades. Well done!
I remind parents that the last day of this school term is
Friday 30th June. Staff return to school Monday 17th
July and students return to school on Tuesday 18th
July.
Have a wonderful two week break with family and
friends and see you all next term.

SEXUALITY UNIT
Students celebrated National Walk Safely to School day on Friday 2nd June. Kindergarten’s learning about road safety
was enhanced by experiencing a walk along Ballantrae Drive. It was a beautiful sunny winter day and Kindergarten
were very excited to leave the school grounds. Accompanied by their teachers, the students were very keen to learn
how to act in a safe manner when walking near the road. We talked about how to cross driveways, the signs on the
roads and the importance of holding an adult’s hand. Students are reminded to always stop, look, listen and think
when walking near roads.
After our walk we were lucky enough to have a talk with Roz, our school crossing lady. We would like to thank Roz
for ensuring our students’ safe passage to and from school daily and also for the time and care she took in visiting
Kindergarten on this occasion. She was kind enough to inform us about her job and explained why it is so important to
act in a safe manner when crossing the road.
Every Kindergarten student who participated in our walk should be congratulated! They all acted in a very safe and
sensible manner when walking outside the school and had a lot of fun whilst learning about road safety.
WALK SAFELY TO SCHOOL DAY

Earlier this term Kindergarten welcomed some very cute and fluffy visitors to our classrooms. The visit included a small
incubator and pen that contained both eggs and chicks. Students were able to learn the importance of keeping the eggs still
and warm prior to hatching. They were then lucky enough to see some eggs hatch and the chicks move from the incubator
to the pen. Students viewed and discussed the growth of the chicks over the two week period and how best to care for them.
As the chicks grew, some students were lucky enough to either pat or hold one of them. We were also very lucky to have a
visit from two grown hens and a grown rooster too! Students learned that the baby chicks would grow to this size, what
they eat and how regularly the hens lay eggs. This was a great introduction to learning about how things stay alive and life
on a farm. All Kindergarten students are very excited for our upcoming Farm Excursion now!

On Friday the 16th June, Kindergarten consolidated and celebrated their learning of Gross Motor Skills with a ‘Kindergarten
Get Sporty’ fun day. Students were divided into various ‘sports’ (groups) and then rotated around 10 different events
throughout the course of the day. Some of the fun activities students participated in, included; sack races, egg and spoon
races, hula hoop huddle, hopping on bouncing balls, bean bag shot put, balloon tennis, hopscotch and straw javelin.
Students were excited and thoroughly enjoyed the variety of experiences the day had to offer. As part of the event, students
were invited to wear their favourite sporting team’s colours. It was great to see a lot of students supporting various
sporting groups and wearing their colours with pride! Every student must be commended on their behaviour and good
sportsmanship that was showcased on the day!

Year 3 and Year 4 students from 3/4F attended an excursion to Belgenny Farm a few weeks ago. Manal Awan
from 3T describes the excursion:
On 31st May 2017, 3T and 3/4F went to Belgenny Farm. What’s Belgenny Farm? It’s a farm that the Macarthur
family owns. When we got there, we saw animals and met Mr Mathews.
First Mr Mathews introduced himself to us. After that we went into the hall and read about the Macarthur’s
history. We went to drop our bags off. Then we went to see sheep and we looked if they were healthy. Did you
know? You can check if sheep are healthy by looking at the colour of their skin.
Later in the day, we went on a tractor ride. So many hats fell off! After that we went in the chicken coop and we
got some eggs. Then we made them into scrambled eggs and made our own butter from cream. Then we went
to the dairy farm and saw calves being fed and cows being milked.
I loved it. It was the best day ever. I would definitely go there again. My favourite parts were the tractor ride
and the chickens.

Our first instalment of the newest addition to our newsletter is off and running!!! We are underway and I have been
inundated with two successes from the community!! I know there is more out there in newsletter land, alas, we have
two wonderful little ladies to celebrate as a community.
HANKA FILIPINSKI of class 1-2W is a
fantastic little swimmer and dancer.
Hanka's interest in swimming started
when she joined Campbelltown
Amateur Swimming Club (CASC),
not too long ago. Remembering that
she is only in year 2, meaning she can’t
participate at our school carnival
at present, she has achieved some
notable successes.
Her achievements in recent times have been:
- C.A.S.C CLUB AGE CHAMPION: 7 YEARS GIRLS
with her 1st PLACE in Freestyle and Backstroke.
- competing in the Swimming Metro South West
Short Course Championships at SOPAC (Sydney Olympic Park
Aquatic Centre). Hanka was a finalist, winning her freestyle heat with a
Personal Best (PB) time of 59.69 before placing 10th in the finals smashing
her PB by nearly 5 seconds. She also managed a very respectable 12th place in the region in her breaststroke event.
Not only is she great in the water, she also displays grace on the land! Hanka has been dancing for a while now,
especially in Polish Folk Dance Assembly and Arts, performing for past 3 years at the Polish Christmas held in
Darling Harbour, Sydney.
Now to another dancer from the youngsters in our midst!
LARA-ROSE MILLS from KK had the opportunity to be part of the half time
performance for the Dragons /Tigers game. Her dance school, along with other local
schools of the St George district, all learnt the one
dance to the song, ‘Can't stop this feeling'.
There were over 300 dances all dancing and
Lara-Rose was the tiniest little lady in the field.
