Current situationThe workplace is in a state of continual evolution. Hyper-globalisation allows staff to perform key tasks from their home office, at a business location, or on the go. Borders are becoming less visible as workers can connect from nearly any location and businesses can sell to anyone, anywhere, anytime. Today’s companies must adopt new technologies quickly to remain competitive and secure.

Rapid urbanisation means that emerging markets are becoming a stronger force in the market. Approximately 143,000 new Internet businesses launch annually in emerging markets.3 Consumers in those markets are expected to spend $30 trillion in 2025.4 The pace of innovation continues to accelerate with an astonishing rise in data volumes and computational power. The emergence of analytics and connectivity offer businesses an ever-greater efficiency.

With changing demographics, the generation of workers entering the workforce has vastly different expectations from the generation about to retire. Millennials and Gen Z currently account for slightly over a third of the workforce (38 percent). In the next decade, that figure is set to shoot up to 58 percent, making the youthful generations the most dominant in the workplace.5 These digitally-connected workers (and customers) expect instant access to sales avenues, service, and communications. Conducting work on mobile devices is reducing the need for paper.

Access to connected education is bringing entire populations into the workforce, including those in rural areas and underdeveloped countries. Underserved students can now access educational content on mobile devices, while educators can now communicate with students through multiple platforms.

Perhaps the most substantial evolution is the digital transformation, which enables massive changes across industries, including manufacturing. Additive manufacturing (3D printing) is transforming companies’ ability to reduce costs and improve productivity while enhancing customer service.

As the workplace—and the world—continue to change, our vision remains the same: to lead the industry, reimagine products and services, and live the HP Way.

Challenges facing clientsAs the workplace evolves at an ever-increasing pace, companies must devote considerable resources to keeping up with the market’s demands and the innovations that can improve profitability.

Being able to see clearly and make the decisions that lead toward the company’s success and longevity require vision. Today’s business leaders need vision to:

• Choose the right technologies to reach the next level of creativity, innovation, and productivity

• Attract and retain talented staff who seek flexibility and meaningful purpose in their work

• Meet rising customer expectations for responsiveness, connectivity, and speed

• Prevent data breaches with proactive strategies for regulatory compliance and cybersecurity

• Avoid falling behind existing competitors, new startups, and industry disruptors

The Office of the Future Each organisation takes a unique path in realising their own vision of the Office of the Future. However, many organisations struggle to ensure their strategies are strong enough and happen soon enough. According to a recent study, “Although automation will play a role in the future workforce, the future will hinge more on experts who wield smart technologies, with 78% of recent survey respondents citing that smart technologies will most significantly change the workplace by 2020.”7

Leaders must carefully navigate the wide array of innovative options available and select those that will create meaningful improvements in their efficiency, profits, and talent pool.

It’s no wonder that Millennials value work-life balance higher than all other job characteristics such as job progression, use of technology, and a sense of meaning at work.

Millennials aren’t alone, according to the 2016 LinkedIn Censuswide Study, nearly half of American workers would forgo the corner-office job and a high salary to gain more flexibility in their schedules.6

“Print jobs can be submitted to the cloud as content is created and then prints can be retrieved securely from print locations at the office, at home, or at public sites without having to worry about device to printer compatibility or connectivity.”8

HP MPS capabilitiesHP MPS brings organisations into the Office of the Future by using real data from the organisation’s actual print usage to optimise the print environment. Hardware, supplies, software solutions, and service needs are managed under a multiyear contract that ensures start-to-finish printing efficiency.

By combining the best practices of the service economy with innovations in workplace technologies, HP MPS saves its clients time and money while radically improving security and regulatory compliance. The true costs of printing become known (and predictable), even with a mixed fleet at numerous locations.

With access to their own actual business data gleaned through end-to-end print management, managers can more easily scale the print environment as needed and manage digital workflows.

Increasing value HP MPS enables leaders to focus on core competencies instead of on their printer fleets. IT managers face tight budgets and pressure to deliver higher-value services. HP offers strategic solutions across three key areas of focus:

• Security and compliance—HP offers the strongest security focused on device, data, and document safety for complete peace of mind9

• Mobility—smartphone and tablet users want to print from their devices; IT staff want to manage fleets from anywhere

• Document and workflow management—data analytics provide insights for setting cost-saving printing policies with the ability to create automatic enforcement

Bringing vision to life Reinventing Multifunction Printers Smart devices are transforming nearly every aspect of life, from lightbulbs to doorbells, from vacuum cleaners to window shades. At HP, we are leading the digital revolution in the office with our best-in-class smart Multifunction Printers (MFPs). Their leading-edge design replaces inefficient processes with smooth automated digital workflows.

Whether you’re a small business or a global enterprise, the HP portfolio can meet your current printing needs and scale as you grow. By designing advanced MFPs, we help our clients enjoy more robust capabilities with a lower overall cost of ownership. Our HP MPS service teams anticipate problems and perform proactive maintenance to ensure your printer is consistently up and running.

We pride ourselves on delivering the world’s most secure printing.11 Only HP has a line of printers and MFPs that can stop attacks and self-heal, so that you can focus on driving your business forward.

3D Printing The blending of our physical and digital worlds is igniting a manufacturing revolution rooted in an industrial paradigm shift. Traditional manufacturing methods are not meeting all the needs of today’s market, and 3D printing is rising to meet those needs.

• Industrial Revolution Water and steam power – 1780s to 1860s

• Mass Production Revolution Electric power and assembly lines – 1870s to 1960s

• Automation Revolution Electronics and information technology – 1970s to 2010s

• Digital Revolution 3D printing and smart production – 2020s to future

With HP Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing, manufacturing happens much closer to the customer. This rising technology allows parts and products to be designed, prototyped, and manufactured in a fraction of the time needed for traditional methods. Digital manufacturing is becoming accessible, efficient, and affordable. This reduces a product’s carbon footprint and simplifies logistics for manufacturing, delivery, and inventory management. HP Multi Jet Fusion technology is removing barriers to 3D printing adoption.

“BMW, an HP Multi Jet Fusion customer, reduced tooling costs by 58 percent. And Nike has reported that using additive manufacturing to make certain shoe models can reduce waste by 80 percent.”10
