How to Deal with a Grievance In the
Workplace

1. Employee raises informal grievance verbally

2. Informal chat with the employee to resolve the grievance
Thursday, 28 June 12
3. If the employee is happy with the suggestions made in your chat this concludes the grievance procedure

4. If the employee is not happy with the resolution they may raise a written
grievance.

5. Schedule a Grievance hearing and allow the employee to be accompanied
to it should they want

6. Deliberate and make a decision - Dont make a decision too quickly

7. Notify employee of the outcome of their grievance within a week

8. Give the employee the right to appeal if they are not satisfied that their
grievance has been dealt with successfully

9. If necessary, hold the appeal

10. If things still cannot be resolved then you may need to contact a solicitor
