How to be courageous Are we there yet? The children of the people of Israel probably asked this question a few hundred times! They were growing up while wandering around the desert, with no home, waiting to enter a beautiful place their parents called the Promised Land. Their parents had the chance to enter the Promised Land before, but almost all of them did not trust God enough to protect them from their enemies living there. However, a man named Joshua had believed – and he was the one that God made the new leader, the one who would help these children enter the Promised Land once they had grown.

It was finally time, but Joshua was scared! How could he lead so many? Was there a school for that or a practice round? How could be as great as Moses, the man who led before him?

God knew that Joshua needed two things. The first is something that Moses would give Joshua – a good example of how to be a leader by letting God work through him.

Before Joshua led them people into the land, he did what he always did: listen to God. God knew that Joshua was afraid but told him that he could be very strong and brave if he did one more thing: keep God’s word. God had given commands that were for everyone’s good! If Joshua worked hard to remember them and keep them, God would make him successful. And God would never, ever leave him.

That was what Joshua needed to hear. He stood up strong and tall. The people gathered behind him. The Promised Land lay ahead. By God’s power, they would conquer it and one day call it home.

Main Idea: We can be strong and courageous because God is with us! God gives us his Word as a tool to know how to live with success.
