To earn an endorsement a student must successfully complete:

House Bill 5 Graduation Requirements for Implementation in 2014-15

Graduation Requirements: Every BISD student is required to complete 22 credits as specified below. Students will earn endorsements for a total of 26 credits. Foundation: • English (4 Credits)

• English I, II, III and Advanced English Course • Math (3 Credits)

• Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II • Science (3 Credits)

• Biology, IPC or Advanced Science and additional Advanced Science • Social Studies (3 Credits)

• US History, US Government/Economics, World Geography or World History

Distinguished Level of Achievement (26 Credits): • To earn the distinguished level, students must complete requirements of

the foundation program, complete Algebra II and earn an endorsement.

Performance Acknowledgement: May be earned for outstanding performance on the following: • 12 hours of college coursework including dual credit and Advanced

Technical Credit • On college AP exam • On PSAT, ACT-PLAN, SAT or ACT • For earning nationally recognized industry licensure or certification

include: English IV, Chemistry and/or Physics • Four AP courses to include one credit in each of the 4

foundation subjects

This endorsement requires 4 credits related to endorsement.

House Bill 5 Graduation Program • Replaces current Recommended, Distinguished Achievement

and Minimum Plans • Begins in 2014-15 for current 8th grade students • Provides for current 9th and 10th graders to opt for new

graduation plan in lieu of current plan • Provides flexibility for students to pursue courses related to their

interests and aptitudes and prepares BISD students for college and careers

• It is the responsibility of each college-bound student to research admission requirements, as each college’s requirements may differ.
