WOMEN OF TROY CROSS COUNTRY

UNIVERSITY OF SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA — PAGE 79

WOMEN OF TROY CROSS COUNTRY The 2006 USC women's cross country team featured eight freshmen and two trans-fers and laid the groundwork for a strong future for the program.

Four different Women of Troy runners led the Trojans in their five regular season meets, with senior Ashley Jensen the only two-time leader. Also being the Trojans' top finisher at a race this season were freshmen Bridget Helgerson and Daniela Gergley and sophomore transfer Christine Greer.

Jensen led the Trojans at the Pac-10 Championships as the only upperclassman, as USC ran a senior, a sophomore and five freshmen and placed 10th.

"Everyone really competed well and it bodes well for the future," said head coach Tom Walsh at the time. "Running in this big race is a good experience for everyone and they will benefit from this in the future."

With the majority of the team back and with the experience gained in 2006, the Trojans look to move up during the 2007 season.

"This is the start of something here at USC in cross country," added Walsh. "With the good recruiting class we have coming in next year added onto this class, things are pointing towards next year as a breakout season for the program."
