Year 1 Home Learning Pack Week 13 Week Beginning 6th July 2020

Our topic for Summer 2 is ‘Farm’.

Below is a list of some different activities you could do with your

child. Please record any work in their home learning books and

include photographs where possible. Phonics, literacy and maths

tasks included for the week. Please continue with reading daily

and key any words.

Phonics New focus for the week: -ve for -v

Day 1 Practise reading phase 5 GPCS using one of the links below.

When you see v and e together at the end of a word, they usually make the /v/

sound because the e is silent. Let’s say these examples together: give, leave,

believe (Rule, always as an e to a v)

Read the following words:

have, glove, believe, live, give, relative, leave, serve, active


Use the words from yesterdays reading list and practise spelling them. Remember every word ending in a v has an e afterwards. Use some fun way to write them. If you can, go outside with chalk or use a paint brush and water, write in the sand etc.

Where is the -ve sound in words?

Day 3 (resource day 3) Each sentence has a word missing, choose from the -ve words to fill in the gaps and complete the sentences.

Day 4 -ve and -v make the same sound.

Copy the paragraph in your neatest handwriting and complete the words in bold with the missing -ve or -v sound. (day 4 resource)


Practise reading and writing some of the -ve words we have learnt this week.

Sort the words into real and nonsense words.

Literacy - This week we will be looking at poetry. We hadn’t looked at poetry an awful lot at

school before lockdown but you have had some poetry reading compressions in recent work packs which

have hopefully jogged your memories.

Day 1 Read the rhyme ‘Here We Go Round the Mulberry Bush’.

. Answer the questions below:

- List all the actions mentioned in the rhyme.

- Try to find out what a mulberry bush is.

- Who do you think is saying the rhyme? Why?

- Which season is the poem set? How do you know?

Day 2

Can you think of an action to go with each verse of the poem? How do you wash your face,

comb your hair, brush your teeth, put on your clothes? Say the poem out loud and add in your

actions. They will help you remember each verse.

(If you’re working at home, it would be fab to see some videos of this)

Draw a picture to go with each verse.

Day 3

Think of all the things you do in a day/week/year. Make a list. e.g. wrap presents, walk

to school, bake a cake, plant a seed, ride a bike.

*Use the new ideas to make changes or add verse to the original rhyme:

On a cold and frosty morning.

Day 4 ‘On a cold and frosty morning’ makes us think of winter and when we wake up to the frost covering the grass and trees.

Think about the other seasons. How would you describe each one? Make a list of adjectives to describe spring, summer and autumn. The images from day 4 resources

can help you:

*Now use a purple pen (or re-write if you want to) to change your own poem. *Does changing the season alter anything else in your poem?

Day 5 Use one of the verses from the poem to write a set of instructions e.g. How to brush your teeth.

Remember to write them in order and check that they make sense. We don’t want people to forget to add the toothpaste!

*Draw some pictures to go with your instructions and add numbers to each one.
