Maths This week in Maths, we are recapping numbers to 20. We are looking at writing them, identifying them and finding missing numbers. Below are some ideas for games and activities you can play with your child.

Page 2: Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English Traditional Tales · 2020-06-05 · Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English This term our topic is Traditional Tales, we would like your child

Smack the Numbers Prepare some sticky notes with various numbers and place them in front of the children armed with fly swatters. The goal of this simple yet fun game is for the little ones to identify the number on the dice and match it with the ones written on sticky notes before smacking the correct answer with a fly swatter! For more of a challenge, write numbers to 20 on the sticky notes and then give clues about the number and see if your child can swat it. Water Squirt Go outside and write down the numbers from your dice all over in chalk - on the footpath, on your driveway, in your garden, on your garden fence – anywhere that can get wet! Then give each of your children a squirt gun, spray bottle full of water, paintbrush or even a wet kitchen sponge. Roll the dice, find that numbers, and spray it away! You are done when all the numbers have been washed away. Again, for more of a challenge write numbers to 20 and then give clues about the number and see if your child can squirt it. Number Formation Practise writing numbers to 20 in rice, glitter, anything that you can trace in. Missing Numbers Look at the number tracks (see attached sheet below) and see if you can fill in the missing numbers

Physical Development

This week is all about getting active and making sure your heart is pumping! Using the What’s Your Name? poster, spell out your name and look at the activity that goes with each letter. Complete the activities – is your heart pumping faster? For even more of a challenge, complete the activities again or try spelling out a family member’s name and completing the activities.

Express Art and Design

Linking to our use of materials, gather some materials from your garden or around the house and make a story setting for the story that you have read. Think about the use of materials and how you can make characters. There is a picture as an idea below to help you.

Understanding of the World

Think about the traditional tale you have read this week and any other traditional tales you know. Mind map ideas of different materials that you know. Think about these and discuss them. What do they feel like? What are they used for? Can we use them for more than one thing? Such as, how many uses does plastic have?

Page 3: Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English Traditional Tales · 2020-06-05 · Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English This term our topic is Traditional Tales, we would like your child

Look at the hard and soft material sheets. Discuss the properties of the materials and decide if they are hard or soft. Cut them out carefully and stick them into the correct places.

Communication and Language

Discuss with your child what a traditional tale is, can they think of lots, make a list. Think about the stories, which is your favourite and why. Who is your favourite character?

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

Being different-Think about a person you know, what is different about them and what is the same as you. Is it just how they look, or can you think of any other differences, are they always happy, smiley, are you? Think of some celebrations like Christmas or Eid does everyone celebrate these?

MATHS

What you need –

Dice

Fly Swatter or anything that you can hit a number with (feather

duster, fairy wand)

Sticky Notes

In a nutshell –

Prepare some sticky notes with various numbers and place them in front of

the children armed with fly swatters. The goal of this simple yet fun game is

for the little ones to identify the number on the dice and match it with the

ones written on sticky notes before smacking the correct answer with a fly

swatter!

For more of a challenge, write numbers to 20 on the sticky notes and then

give clues about the number and see if your child can swat it. For example:

Page 14: Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English Traditional Tales · 2020-06-05 · Week 2 Home Learning Pack Task English This term our topic is Traditional Tales, we would like your child

I am thinking of a number that is one more than 15. What number do you

need to swat?

Water Squirt with Numbers

Go outside and write down the numbers from your dice all over in chalk - on the footpath, on your driveway, in your garden, on your garden fence – anywhere that can get wet! Then give each of your children a squirt gun, spray bottle full of water, paintbrush or

even a wet kitchen sponge. Roll the dice, find that numbers, and spray it

away! You’re done when all the numbers have been washed away.

Again, for more of a challenge write numbers to 20 and then give clues about the number and see if your child can squirt it. For example: I am thinking of a number that is one less than 19. What number do you need to spray?

Number Formation

Practise your number formation this week in some rice,

glitter, sand – anything that you have that your child can

trace in.

Place the rice into a baking tray and then using their

finger or a paint brush your child can trace their numbers.

You could ask them to write particular numbers that you

know they may need help with or you could choose

random numbers to 20.
