STEWARDSHIP THOUGHT

In today’s first reading, we hear Samuel respond eagerly, “Here I am!” each time the Lord calls him. May we, too, be listening for the call of God in our lives and be ready to say like the psalmist, “Here am I, Lord; I come to do your will.”

1 Samuel 3:4; Psalm 40

BIBLE STUDY: GOD'S CALL AND YOURS

Join us for this winter's Bible Study. We'll look at Sunday readings and other Scriptures that describe God's call and how people of the Bible responded. Maybe there will be insights for your spiritual life and how God is calling us today. Is God calling you? If he were, how would you know? Wednesdays, 6-7pm or Fridays, 9:30-10:30am in room 12, running five weeks through February 7 / 9. Come for one or all the sessions.

JANUARY 14, 2018

From today’s Gospel reading: Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, was one of the two who heard John and followed Jesus. He first found his own brother Simon and told him, "We have found the Messiah."

Reflection: The results of being with Jesus are immediate: new followers go out and call others. They become witnesses to what they have experienced. Which brings up the possibility of not being so shy to talk about our faith around others.

So, we ask ourselves: - What are the ways I can witness to my faith in Jesus? - Do I ever share my faith with another? -How?

HOLY TRINITY PRAYER CORNER

Lord, we pray for the power to be gentle; the strength to be forgiving; the patience to be understanding; and the endurance to accept the consequences of holding to what we believe to be right. May we put our trust in the power of good to overcome evil and the power of love to overcome hatred. We pray for the vision to see and the faith to believe in a world emancipated from violence, a new world where fear shall no longer lead men to commit injustice, nor selfishness make them bring suffering to others. Help us to devote our whole life and thought

and energy to the task of making peace, praying always for the inspiration and the power to fulfill the destiny for which we and all men were created.

CHOIR PRACTICE

Thursday's noon choir practice has been moved to Friday. Same time. The other rehearsal remains on Thursday night, 7:00pm. It's a good time of year to join the music ministry. We accept singers of any ability, and instrumentalists of any sort. Contact Todd at (816)838-6579 or by email ([email protected]) for more info.

Also ... New Year's Resolution for 2018: "I will join the choir and sing praise to God every weekend!" If this sounds like you, then you have several options. You can sing at the Mass of your choice and it doesn't even have to be the same Mass every weekend. You can practice at one of two times of your choice: Thursday at 7pm or Friday at 12 noon. You can also enjoy a "test run" to see if you like it. Sing for a month and if it doesn't work for you, you can give it up for Lent! Contact Todd for more info (contact listed above).
