Becoming a Catholic Christian

The parish has a year-round/on-going process to assist adults in becoming Catholic. It also has a special program for older unbaptized children. Both can start any time. Call Deacon George (868-2310) for further information

Sacrament of Marriage

Engaged couples begin preparation for the Sacrament of Marriage at least 6 months before their wedding. Please remember—a wedding date will not be scheduled until the assessment of their readiness for the Sacrament of Marriage has been completed. Contact the rectory for more information. Weddings are not scheduled during the Season of Lent. Anointing of the Sick

The sacrament is for those having surgery, the seriously ill, the chronically ill, and those near death. If you know in advance that you are going to the hospital, call one of the priests to arrange for anointing at home or church. In addition the sacrament is celebrated at church on the first Saturday of the month after evening Mass and on the third Sunday of the month after 8:00 Mass. It may be repeated as needed.

A PLEDGE TO P A R I S H L I F E

My parish is composed of people like me. I help make it what it

is. It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled,

if I help fill them.

It will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to causes,

if I am a generous giver.

It will bring other people into its community,

if I invite and bring them.

It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of fearlessness and faith,

and a parish with a noble spirit, if I, who make it what it is, am filled

with these same things.

Therefore, with the help of God, I shall dedicate myself to the task

of being all the things that I want my parish to be.

Celebrating the Our Calling to Evangelize

Passing On The Faith

THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT for our Annual Catholic Appeal funding services, education, and pastoral care for many who look to our Church for the love of Christ. Volunteers will be contacting parish members by phone or home visits to give all an opportunity to participate. Our goal is $53,943 and 44 New Donors (parish members who have never or not recently given). As of May 21st we have received $40,323 and recorded 13 new donors. For the coming year our school has been promised a $200,000 from the Appeal, so I encourage you to be as generous as possible. We are truly blessed! May many others be as well!

“The church must walk the road Christ himself walked, a way of poverty and obedience, of service and self-sacrifice even to death.”

2nd Vatican Council, Ad Gentes Divinitus, 5

OUR PARISH FINANCE COMMITTEE at their May 10th meeting accepted the recommendations of our Capital Improvements Committee and recommended that we fund these repairs and improvements to our parish property and facilities to be completed by the end of the summer.

Repair Church Van Air Conditioner $ 1,000

Install Fire Suppression System - Cafeteria Kitchen $ 2,000

Install Emergency Lighting - Community Center $ 2,000

Repair Church Windows - Exterior Overhangs & Soffits $ 3,132

Repair Church Ceiling - Several Locations $ 5,640

Repave Parking Lots, Driveways, & Street Parking Areas $ 152,180

Total Planned Capital Improvements - Summer 2012 $ 165,952

In December we completed the installation of a new roof on the Community Center building. Though we knew that this would be needed in the near future, the breakdown of the roof and a number of leaks began to develop more quickly than we anticipated. The total cost of replacing the roof was $81,000 which will bring us to a total investment of $246,952 by the end of this year. Finally, capital improvements amounting to about $11,000 are needed at our school. Our parish is committed to funding these improvement under the cur-rent 3 year strategic plan for our school, if funds are not available in the school’s operating budget.

I am most grateful to our Capital Improvements Committee for their work of assessing and prioritizing these needs of our parish from the larger list of projects under consideration. Join me in thanking them as well for determining the contractors and vendors most suitable in their judgment for the work we need to do. Please don’t hesitate to speak with any member of this Committee about these or other improvements underway or that you might like to see: Pat Barrett, Steve Jones, Frank Kurz, Brian Loy, Ken Maue, Mike Petroff, and Jerry VanDeven.

I am also very grateful for the continuing support of our parish members for the operation and programs of our parish. Your participation in parish activities, ministries, and leadership as well as your financial support through your Sunday offertory gifts helps to ensure the vibrancy and future of our parish. As you can see from the monthly financial reports published in our bulletin, maintaining and even increasing your offering, if possible, is important now and for the future. Funds for these repairs and improvements will be taken from our limited parish savings. In the coming weeks leading up to our annual report I will have more information for you about our reserve funds and operating budget.

Feast of the Holy Trinity “The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ…” ROMANS 8: 16-17 If we are heirs to the kingdom of God, should we not work to build up that kingdom? Should we not be good stewards of our inheritance, using our time, tal-ent and treasure to care for the Church that God has left to us? Our Church is a treasured heirloom from God. Do we treat it that way?

DID YOU KNOW????

Nearly 24 million American adults are living with diabetes. However, there are about 79 million with a condition known as prediabetes. This means that your blood sugar levels are elevated above normal but not high enough to be classified as diabetic. A diabetics fasting blood sugar is 126 or higher and normal is less than 100. Prediabetics falls in the middle of that range. If you are prediabetic you are at risk of developing diabetes in the future and also at risk of heart disease. If you are told you are prediabetic you have just had a red flag waved in front of you, a warning to make changes in your lifestyle. Walking 30 min-utes everyday and decreasing your weight by 5% can decrease your risk by 60% over 3 years. Prediabetes is a “silent” condition. It is recom-mended that adults over 45 years be tested annually for diabetes. There are two tests that can be used. Fasting blood sugar-a test of your blood after

you have fasted 8 hours. Oral glucose tolerance test-a comparison of

your blood taken first after 8 hours of fasting and then 2 hours later after you have consumed a sugary drink given to you by a lab technician.

Don’t hesitate, when going to you physician for your yearly check-up to ask for these tests Be aware of your blood sugars and make changes as needed to stay healthy. Take care….stay cool… S. Rose, SSND, RN

FIVE WAYS TO MAKE YOUR PARISH A BETTER PLACE THINK of yourself as part of your parish family. Family members don’t always agree, but they do feel a strong commitment to the family. USE your gifts and talents for the good of the parish. If you’re a singer, public speaker, musician or just a friendly, helpful person, get involved as a lector, usher, and greeter, extraordinary minister of Holy Commun-ion or part of the parish music ministry. ATTEND parish events. Whether it’s a mission, a lecture or a lawn fete, it’s important to support the spiritual, educational and social parts of parish life. Invite family members and friends to join you! SUPPORT you parish financially. Parishes need your help with operational expenses, energy costs, supplies and maintenance. Be generous. PRAY. Keep your pastor, the parish staff and the parishioners in your daily prayers. Pray also for the return of Catholics who have strayed from practice of their faith. These five ways were taken from an article written by Lorene Hanley Duquin for Our Sunday Visitor, April 6, 2008 – Vol. 96, No. 49, pp. 18-19.
