How can anyone embrace the enemy? Wouldn’t this just enable the enemy to do even more harm, and fail to hold the enemy accountable for their misdeeds and injustice? It flies in the face of justice, and fairness, and just common sense! Jesus does not teach us to wait until the offender comes crawling on their knees begging for forgiveness before we forgive. “A community of disciples of Jesus Christ called to celebrate, proclaim, and share the love of God with all people.”

February 24, 2019

Good People of Holy Cross,

“Love your enemies,” Jesus said, “do good to those who hate you, bless those who curse you, pray for those who abuse you.” What? How can anyone embrace the enemy? Wouldn’t this just enable the enemy to do even more harm, and fail to hold the enemy accountable for their misdeeds and injustice? It flies in the face of justice, and fairness, and just common sense! Jesus does not teach us to wait until the offender comes crawling on their knees begging for forgiveness before we forgive. He puts the initiative squarely on us, and calls us to make the first move. There is an empowering to this initiative, and it is the first step out for us to climb out of the abyss of helpless and hopeless hurt. Jesus assumes there are enemies in our lives and he does not suggest that loving the enemy, turning the cheek, or offering one’s cloak to the one who stole our coat will necessarily change the enemy into a friend. It might, but there is no promise of that outcome here. Jesus is giving us a chance to join him in the release of a scent of heaven on earth. Jesus, who not only taught us to love our enemies, practiced what he preached, loving and praying for those who killed him while he prayed. Let’s try! Fr. Jude Michael

P. Jude Michael

MISSIONARIES OF THE POOR FOOD DRIVE - LENT 2018 The Missionaries of the Poor are dedicated to "Joyful Service with Christ on the Cross" by serving the poorest of the poor. They desperately need basic food items to feed over 500 people in Jamaica on a daily basis. This year, peanut butter and boxes of spaghetti only (no other types of pasta, please!) Place your peanut butter and spaghetti in our emptied baptismal font, (like we did with our Giving Tree items.) For more information regarding the food collection or to help with packing, please contact Eileen Anandappa at: [email protected].

DEAR HOLY CROSS FAMILY

On behalf of the Soldiers of Alpha Battery, 1st Battalion, 43d Air Defense Artillery Regiment, thank you for the CARE packages. They were a welcome reminder of home and provided a moment of distraction from our current mission. All of us appreciate the time and effort that the Holy Cross community dedicated towards these gifts. It is welcoming to know other people realize that we are over here doing what we love, but doing it far from home.

Very Respectfully, Dennis Stanford CPT, ADA, Commanding

Respetuosamente, Dennis Standford CPT, ADA, Commanding

PRAY FOR THE PRIESTS/OREN POR LOS SACERDOTES

PRAY FOR PRIESTS A ministry of Holy Cross Parish

Pray daily for the priest assigned to that day.

O Jesus, eternal Priest, keep your priests, especially <name of priest>

within the shelter of Your Sacred Heart, where none may touch them.

Keep unstained their anointed hands, which daily touch Your Sacred Body.

Keep unsullied their lips, daily purpled with Your Precious Blood.

Keep pure and unearthly their hearts, sealed with the sublime mark of the priesthood.

Let Your holy love surround them and shield them from the world’s contagion.

Bless their labors with abundant fruit and may the souls to whom they minister be their joy and consolation here

and in heaven their beautiful and everlasting crown. Amen.

O Jesús, Eterno Sacerdote, protege a tus sacerdotes, especialmente
