For the 31st year, The Hoboken Artists’Studio Tour is welcoming visitors tocheck out all types of artists and per-formers in their studios around the mile-square city. It’s a chance to meet andenjoy the works of the creative peoplewho give an artistic pulse to one of theEast Coast’s most exciting towns.

Visitors can use the map in this sectionof the Hoboken Reporter to tour the var-ious locations in any order. The eventruns Nov. 5 and 6 from noon to 6 p.m.each day. The Reporter is a co-sponsorof the event.

Aside from enjoying the paintings, sculpture, photography, drawing, music, spoken word, and other creativeart forms, visitors can see the city ofHoboken at its finest. Some of the loca-tions are unique buildings such as for-mer factories that were converted toartists’ workshops, so the locations areartistic in their own ways. In addition, you can stop into the mile-square city’sdozens of restaurants and shops tomake for a perfect Saturday or Sundayafternoon (or both!)

Popular stops on the tour, with manyartists showing their work in one place, include the Neumann Leather Building, the Monroe Center, and new art gal-leries that have opened recently. Onegallery is even debuting during theweekend of the tour.

Two new galleries – The Lana SantorelliGallery (628 Washington St.) and

Gallery 1200 (1200 Washington St.)opened this year and are full of surpris-es. A new gallery, “Artistocrat,” will soonopen in the southwest corner of town at49 Harrison St. Its founder will host a softopening on the weekend of the Artists’Studio Tour.

Geri Fallo, administrator of CulturalAffairs for the city of Hoboken, noted,“We’ll have an information table at CityHall (94 Washington St.) on both days ofthe tour, where visitors can pick up thetour guides and volunteers will be avail-able to answer questions. There will bean exhibit at City Hall featuring 16artists.”

The city will also provide a free shuttlebus service “the Art Hop,” that will stopat various locations throughoutHoboken, especially near the majortour stops along the map.

Much of the art featured in the tour willbe available for sale, as well. Whileyou’re enjoying the art, why not supportthe artists and purchase some of theircreations?

The tour is in its 31st year. MeredithLippman, who now works as the pro-gram development specialist at theHudson County Office of Cultural andHeritage Affairs, was one of thefounders.

“Hoboken had artists in 1981 but theyweren’t necessarily very visible at thetime,” Lippman said. “So what we didwas create a Hoboken studio tour. We

Welcome to the HobokenArtists’ Studio Tour!Visitors can enjoy creative works all aroundtown on Nov. 5 and 6

With an eclectic mix of over 150 artists from all overthe tri-state area exhibiting in over 30 locations allthroughout the City, this year’s tour promises to be agreat one. You can visit artists working in their studiosor stroll along our charming, vibrant streets and stopin one of the many local establishments that are tak-ing part in the tour.

Many artists will also be displaying their work atCity Hall, which has always been a traditional venuefor this event.

The Artists Studio Tour is a unique opportunity toexplore our City and discover all it has to offer.Whether you are walking along our waterfront with itsstunning views of Manhattan or discovering our pic-turesque neighborhoods, you are sure to enjoy yourtime in Hoboken.

The artist community is such an important part ofwhat makes Hoboken unique, and my Administrationhas been working hard to protect it. The NeumannLeather site was recently declared an Area in Need ofRehabilitation - an important tool for preserving the

industrial arts use and historic character of the build-ings. And we fought hard to make sure that the newowners of the Monroe Center share our vision for pre-serving the artist tenants and expanding the arts useof the facility.

As in past years, our Division of Cultural Affairs hasworked hand in hand with the Hudson Reporter tohelp stage one of Hoboken’s most anticipated cultur-al events. Their teamwork is greatly appreciated andguaranteed to make the tour a big hit. We wouldalso like to thank our other sponsor, the HudsonCounty Division of Cultural & Heritage Affairs and theMonroe Center for the Arts for their ongoing supportof the studio tour.

So please come and join us on November 5th and6th from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. for the 31st Annual HobokenArtists Tour.

Sincerely,

Mayor Dawn Zimmer

This ad not paid for with taxpayer funds.

Hoboken is a dynamic and vibrant city due in part to the many artists who live and work in our community. We appreciate their commitment to nurturing the cultural canvas that makes Hoboken so special. The Hoboken Artists Studio Tour is a day to thank them and admire their creativity and sense of self-expression.

The Studio Tour has become one of Hoboken’s premier cultural events, showcasing the talents of local artists. This year we are celebrating the 31st Anniversary of this event, and I am proud to acknowledge the accomplishments of all the artists participating.

Today is also the perfect opportunity to explore Hoboken’s charming neighborhoods, unique shops, outdoor cafes, rich historic architecture and beautiful waterfront parks as you walk from studio to studio.

This is a special day for Hoboken, and I hope you will take advantage of everything our community has to offer.
