It is always good to know what skills we have on offer in our community. Become one of our ‘Hitherfield Heroes’ by letting us know if you can come in and share your skills or experiences. If you have particular skills (whether you are a chef, gardener, carpenter, doctor, fireman, artist) and would like to make yourself available to the school, please email [email protected] and we can add you to our skills bank with your availability. We are also looking for parents who are free to run ‘Project Gold’ activities on a Friday afternoon and are able to help out with trips and sporting activities. Any help, in whatever way, would be much appreciated!!

EU Settlement Scheme Drop In Sessions

The situation around the UK's exit from the EU is still filled with uncertainty. But the council continues to work to ensure we're prepared for whatever unfolds. Lambeth wants staff and their families from other European countries to stay following Brexit. We're happy to support you in making an application to the EU Settlement Scheme therefore, Schools HR are offering a series of drop in sessions for school EEA nationals to help you complete your application. The drop-in sessions will be informal to allow you to ask questions however, if there are any questions we can’t answer, we will collate these and come back to you. In order for us to support you in completing the application you are required to bring the following documents to the session:

Biometric passport or biometric ID (Either of these documents MUST have a chip) National insurance number

The government's EU Settlement Scheme is intended to ensure EEA nationals can continue to live and work here. Immediately following Brexit, EEA nationals and their families will be able to live and work in the UK as normal. The scheme is an important step towards EEA nationals retaining the benefits as a resident of the UK. For example, it will help with changing jobs, agreeing to a tenancy, or opening a bank account. Even if you hold a permanent resident card, you will still need to apply to the settlement scheme. To register for one of the sessions please email Schools HR on [email protected]

(The rooms are at the beginning of the ground floor and should be fairly straight forward to find.) Details about the EU Settlement Scheme is available online at www.gov.uk/eusettledstatus The Mayor of London also has an excellent online resource EU Londoners Hub

Thank you!

Maths Glossary

This year, we will be sharing key mathematical vocabulary that you may find useful to use when talking to your

child or completing maths activities together. All children use a range of mathematical language in lessons to

explain their thinking and share their understanding.

Number sentence = an equation expressed using numbers and mathematical symbols (+ - x ÷ = ) e.g 5 + 2 = 7

THE DEADLINE FOR DAFFODIL ORDERS IS

FRIDAY 4TH OCTOBER.

It’s maths challenge time!! Can you solve the addition

problems to colour the picture?

Reminder.

On the 7th of October we are running some workshops for Year 5 children with the organisation Growing Against Violence. As part of this, we are also offering an informative parent session. This will take place in the school (location to be confirmed - depending on numbers) after drop off at 9am. The session is 90 minutes long. Due to the content and topics covered, it is not appropriate for children, so we are offering a creche service, which will be held in the children's centre creche room. A sign up sheet will be in main school office, so please register your space with one of the office staff. This is open to ALL parents. Sessions will also be run in January with the Year 6 pupils. Please see the attached flyer further down the Herald for information about these sessions.

Do you know the difference between ‘Best Before’ and ‘Use By’ dates?

Best before

"Best before" dates appear on a wide range of frozen, dried, tinned and other foods.

"Best before" dates are about quality, not safety. When the date is past, it does not mean that the food will be harmful, but it might

begin to lose its flavour and texture.

At the Food Market, if we have tinned or packet foods that are past their ‘Best Before’ date we will be given an extension certificate from the manufacturer stating how much longer the food can be kept for at a good quality. We will never offer you food products without this manufacturers guarantee.

Use by

‘Use by’ dates are the most important date to consider, as these relate to food safety.

At the Food Market, we will never offer you foods with a ‘Use By’ date, as we do not have the refrigeration storage space necessary.

You will see "use by" dates on food that goes off quickly, such as smoked fish, meat products and ready-prepared salads.

Do not use any food or drink after the end of the "use by" date on the label, even if it looks and smells fine. This is because using it after this date could put your health at risk.

For the "use by" date to be a valid guide, you must follow storage instructions such as "keep in a refrigerator”. If you do not follow these instructions, the food will spoil more quickly and you may risk food poisoning.

Once a food with a "use by" date on it has been opened, you also need to follow any instructions, such as "eat within 3 days of opening". But remember, if the "use by" is tomorrow, then you must use the food by the end of tomorrow, even if the label says, "Eat within a week of opening" and you have only opened the food today.

If a food can be frozen, its life can be extended beyond the "use by" date. But make sure you follow any instructions on the pack, such as "cook from frozen" or "defrost thoroughly before use and use within 24 hours".
