Hill View Primary School Parent Survey 2017
Dear Parents and Guardians, You will remember that earlier this term the governors asked for parents’ views about Hill View School. Thank you very much to all the 81 parents who took the time to respond, while this is just a small proportion of the total Hill View community all the views expressed have been carefully considered. In addition to seeking your views as parents and guardians, this term the school has participated in a significant National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) Instead peer review process, which considers all aspects of school life and mirrors the governments OFSTED inspection framework. The full outcomes of this review will be shared through the school website when the final report is available. The results of the survey are generally very positive, however there were a number of aspects that were raised in the text comments that have proved to be valuable. A full analysis of the survey results are loaded on the school website and can be accessed at the following link: http://hillviewprimary.co.uk/other-information/ It is pleasing that communication was rated more highly this year. We have worked hard to improve communication through a number of initiatives including the weekly newsletter and the new website. The governors and School Leadership Team continue to look for the most effective ways to communicate with parents and guardians and have this year been developing a bespoke Hill View home school learning journal. A prototype of this journal has been trialled with a small group of parents and will be rolled out to all children from September. This will provide a further enhanced communication between home and the classroom which we feel will address a number of the comments made in this year’s survey. Behaviour management is always a key focus of the school and is managed positively to meet the needs of all children. We are pleased that parents agree that behaviour across the school is very good. You will have seen how wonderfully behaved our children were at the recent sports days and were no doubt impressed by how empathetic, sensitive and wholeheartedly supportive they were of each other. The external NAHT Instead reviewers also commented about how our children are well mannered, articulate and confident. They interact with each other and with staff respectfully and considerately. The issue of homework and home learning was raised by a number of parents again this year with not all parents feeling that the homework was appropriate. While some parents are keen to receive much more homework, others already feel that too much is issued. Similarly, while some parents enjoy and see the value in project based work, others would prefer weekly spellings or maths tasks. The Hill View approach to homework and home learning is reviewed regularly, and has been discussed once again in light of the parent comments received. The governors are fully supportive of the school’s approach to homework and home learning and the way that it supports the integrated curriculum and the school’s core ethos values. At the start of the new school year the school will issue a parent leaflet outlining the rationale behind the school’s approach.

We really do value your feedback and will survey your views again next year. A member of the School Leadership Team and Cathy Jenkins our Pastoral Support Worker are usually present in the playground both on school drop off and collection: please do feel free to raise any concerns that you have with them or your child’s class teacher. A reminder of key people, along with photos, are available on the website. Naturally it is not possible to respond to each individual comment made but do be assured that all of your comments have been considered fully. Many thanks again for the time you took to provide us with your views. All the staff really do work hard to ensure the very best for your children and whilst we may not always get everything right it is pleasing that your views as parents were overwhelmingly positive. Yours sincerely,
Dr. Jeff Bray Chair of Governors On behalf of the Governing Body
