2018 GATEWAY EMPLOYERS THANK YOU

We would like to say a huge thank you to all of our Gateway and work experience employers this year. YOUNG ENTERPRISE SCHEME Another great achievement for our Year 13 Enterprise students. It has just been confirmed that one of our teams, Ecoflames won a major regional award under the criteria "Enterprising Innovation". There were 10 nominees under this criteria. The Ecoflames team are: Jordan Cocker, Sean Laubscher, Jay Winfield and Skyla Young. Heretaunga College scoring an award consecutively for two years in a row is a big achievement! Also, two other companies from our school, BeeHappy and Health Tea, were nominated under the Business Resilience and Marketing award. Just being nominated for the Regional awards is a big success for these two companies.

MONTHLY WELLBEING UPDATE

SHIFT are back delivering again for the girls, bringing in archery and boxing at morning break for Wellness

Wednesdays already this term.

Our Year 12 Leadership Day was a great chance to embed what wellness means and how we can empower our

students to take care of themselves, especially with the increased pressure of upcoming exams, whilst also striving for

leadership roles in the school next year.

We have been lucky to have great support from our community this year. We would especially like to thank the Upper

Hutt Community Youth Trust and Youthtown for supporting our boys’ wellbeing programme and more recently with

their involvement in our Year 12 Leadership Day.

We look forward to growing even more opportunities for our students and continuing to collaborate within the

community.

LIBRARY/WHAREPUKAPUKA

We’re encouraging all students who are returning to Heretaunga in 2019 to sign up for our Summer Reading Programme. There’s a lot of academic research that shows students can backslide with their reading if they take a long break from it. Even if they don’t issue books from us then they should have a plan to incorporate some reading into the school holidays. If they are starting Year 11 or 12 next year they should check with their English teacher to see if their 2019 course has reading responses. If so reading one or two of their extended texts over summer will help them start strong. Please email [email protected] for more information or to sign your child up. We’ve also included the brochure in this newsletter.

CAREERS Scholarships

While some scholarship applications have closed for this year there are still plenty available from the following sites:

Generosity GivME website has over 4000 scholarships. Heretaunga College pays a subscription to this website so it

is free access at College.

MoneyHub Scholarships is another site to look for scholarships. www.moneyhub.co.nz/scholarships-nz.html

Polytechnic's and other Tertiary providers will also have information on their websites.

Upper Hutt Cossie Club Scholarships application forms can be obtained from the stand outside the Careers Room,

The Cossie Club Reception or https://www.cossieclubs.org.nz/images/staff/Kick-Start-2018-Applications.pdf

2019 Applications to Tertiary Providers

Please remember to start applying for 2019 courses at Polytechnics and Private Training Providers before their

courses for next year fill up.

NCEA STUDENT APP UPDATE

The NCEA Student App can now be downloaded from

either the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. It is

available to use in English and Te Reo Maori, is free to

download and can be used from any smart device.

This version displays and better supports multiple

levels of NCEA and new users can simply add credits

from previous years without having to also add

standards information first. This means that students

can track their progress towards various NCEA levels

over multiple calendar years more quickly and easily.

The App allows students to plan, select and set their

NCEA credit goals and targets and to see how they

are tracking towards NCEA Levels One, Two and

Three, including Literacy, Numeracy and University

Entrance.

More information can be found on the NZQA

website: www.nzqa.govt.nz/audience-
