ELEMENTARY SCHOOL MARJAN, Split
Forest is the ,,next-door’’ neighbour and namesake of our school.
If we venture inside just a litle bit, it will display its wondrous nature.
...we are especially thankful to all the herbs with healing properties...
First we got out our books and learned the basic theory.
Then we enlisted the help of a botanist and went to discover the herbs ourselves in a botanical garden.
Then we felt ready to explore the forest and went in search of herbs.
We carefully watched, smelled and gathered...
...we found many different species of herbs...
...we carefully dried them and kept them in a herbarium...
...we used some to make medicinal potions, such as oil and tea...
We also made a balm by scraping beeswax...
...we heated it in a glass with olive oil and waited for it to melt...
...we added a bit of honey and essential oils of lavander and poured it into cups.
The finished product (balm) was soothing on dry, tired hands.
In our workshops we made honey, marmelade and medicinal products, as well as our balm.
We put it all on display and presented it to other students and visitors to our school.
THE HERBS that grow in these parts give us health and longevity!
