It is with great pleasure and pride that JD Malat Gallery opens its doors to the public for the first time with a solo exhibition by Henrik Aa. Uldalen. This will be the first show not only for the gallery, but also for the artist himself, who has enjoyed internal social media success, but has yet to physically display his paintings. Thanks to Jean David Malat, the founder of JD Malat Gallery, Uldalen’s entry into the fine art world officially begins. ‘Metanoia’ is born.
Malat has been watching the self-taught artist for years, watching his technique grow and develop. The power of his pieces and their portrayal of the innermost emotion felt by his angst-ridden subjects instantly caught Malat’s eye. Indeed, the poignancy of his paintings achieved through the striking application of paint is one that cannot be forgotten. The exis-tentialist nature of his realist canvases appears like a breath of fresh air in a contemporary art world saturated with abstraction and concept. Uldalen draws us back to the figure in its pure state leaving it to the viewer to build a narrative.
Uldalen has described the creation of his work taking place with ‘no limitations, pure expres-sion’, a rare approach combining both gesture and intellect, two actions never before syn-chronised. The result is fascinating. We hope that you appreciate the power of ‘Metanoia’ as much as we do. We sincerely wish this to be the first of many exhibitions by our talented artists whom we expect to hold true status in today’s art world and beyond. The same goes with JD Malat Gallery, a timeless space of discovery and innovation.
