Shirley roBertSonOne of the worlds greatest female sailors, Shirley won consecutive gold medals in Sydney and Athens and was the only female skipper in the iShares Extreme 40 Circuit in 2008, and was the skipper of Team iShares for the 2009 iShares Cup Extreme 40 Sailing Series. Shirley has been supported by Henri Lloyd since 1993.

geoff holtHenri Lloyd will be supporting Geoff Holt when he completes his next personal challenge. Geoff will cross the Atlantic and return to the scene of the accident that paralysed him 25 years ago. On completing this, Geoff will also be the first quadriplegic to make this journey. Henri Lloyd has supported Geoff since 1992, including his single handed circumnavigation of Great Britain in 2007.

my dad has always been involved in sailing, he took part in the 1973-74 Whitbread round the World race, so i guess it was in the family!

i learnt to sail at the age of 8 in restronguet, cornwall and what started out as a hobby soon became a real passion. there came a point where i had to make a decision about whether this was what i wanted to do professionally, and for me it was the natural decision. We are very lucky that we have a good system in place through the rya to make sure that those with the talent and passion at a young age are coached and supported. in terms of popularity within the general public, sailing can often be treated as a minority sport. football, rugby and motor sports tend to dominate the sports pages in the uk. but i hope that with the olympics and the success of british sailors in other events, sailings profile will be raised and we will start to widen the audience for the sport. i think it is also about education; many people see sailing as an elitist sport and that if they dont live by the sea they cant get involved. This simply isnt the case, but it will be a slow process to get that message into the general consciousness.

some of my greatest sailing heroes made their mark in olympic sailing; people such as paul elvstrm who won an amazing four gold medals at consecutive olympics is a real inspiration, russell coutts went on from winning olympic gold to win the Americas Cup. Outside of sailing I would say michael schumacher, he has achieved a phenomenal amount within one sport.

i recently met jenson button & rubens barrichello, when i attended the european grand prix in valencia as a guest of the brawn gp formula one team, i found it extremely interesting to be part of another elite sporting team for the weekend, and i was lucky enough to be invited to join in their strategy meeting and other team discussions, especially as sailing and in particular the Americas Cup and Formula one racing have so much in common.

henri lloyd have supported me from the age of 18 through all my sailing achievements. our relationship is now more than a partnership, i consider myself part of the henri lloyd family.

What i look for in clothing is something that enables you to move freely around the boat, something that you dont notice, once its on it works, you can forget about it and focus on winning. Different clothing systems are required in the varied racing environments and climates that i compete in around the world, the henri lloyd selection is varied and adaptable for all conditions.

Designing the ben ainslie junior range with henri lloyd has been very fulfilling. i am very lucky to be able to do what i love the most as a full time job and wanted the opportunity to be able to inspire young sailors. Its my hope that this generation of young sailors will find the ben ainslie range practical, fun and comfortable.

the WinDstopper membrane is an ultra protective layer which is laminated to a lightweight textile layer, making it totally windproof.

Worn on its own, UV protection adds to its performance and versatility. Based on the Aussie Rules method, (there is a sliding scale from 0-50), all our products are 30-50 rated, while a Durable Water Repellency (DWR) finish helps shed surface water.

And Fast-Dri doesnt just protect you against the elements, it protects you with an anti-microbial finish to help maintain freshness. Silver ions in the fabric repel bacteria, stopping it from forming.

When considering sailing clothing, many people think only of the outer layer because it is the most visible. often the layers underneath and next to the skin are given little thought. this is a mistake. however good your outer protection, youll compromise its performance without proper base and mid layers.

The base layer is designed to be lightweight and, unlike a regular cotton T-shirt, wicks moisture away from your body to keep you dry and comfortable.

The mid layer provides the essential layer of warmer air and protection from wind and water.

The Flex Jacket is the next generation in intelligent performance wear. Bi-Component construction combines hard shell fabric panels with areas of soft shell fabric ensuring you get the perfect mix between water and wind protection with flexibility.

Both fabrics feature Adaptive Performance Technology, which consists of temperature-sensitive memory polymers.

Basically, that means it has in built climate control.

How does it work? When the temperature falls, the polymers reconfigure to restrict the loss of heat and moisture and work to keep you warm. As the temperature within the garment rises the Adaptive Performance Membrane increases the membranes permeability causing water vapour and moisture to be expelled to the outside air at a faster rate of speed.

The Atmosphere Jacket is the next generation in intelligent performance wear.

It features Adaptive Performance Technology, which consists of temperature-sensitive memory polymers.

Basically, that means it has in built climate control.

How does it work? When the temperature falls, the polymers reconfigure to restrict the loss of heat and moisture and work to keep you warm. As the temperature within the garment rises the Adaptive Performance Membrane increases the membranes permeability causing water vapour and moisture to be expelled to the outside air at a faster rate of speed.

Outlast technology was originally developed for NASA to protect astronauts against temperature fluctuations in space. Outlast material is a microencapsulated phase change material (mPCM) that can be blended into compounds suitable for applying to fibres, fabrics and coated materials.

Outlast materials have the ability to interact with your body to help balance temperature by absorbing, storing and releasing the heat that you produce and maintaining a comfort zone.

One way to demonstrate the performance level of Outlast products compared to traditional products is with a Thermal Imaging Camera. This camera shows temperature differences in colour. From hottest to coldest, the colours are: white, red, yellow, green and blue.

The elastic hydrophilic membrane in TP Ocean is comprised of a complex molecular structure that allows perspiration vapour to pass through the solid waterproof structure whilst the carefully selected layers of the laminate effectively transport perspiration vapour away to keep your feet dry. When combined with Outlast the result is a level of comfort that you need to try to believe.

WHAT IS A HYDROPHOBIC COATING?

The Hydrophobic coating is a water resistant coating that is applied to the lens surface improving the wetting properties resulting in water beading off the lens more easily.

HOW IT WORKS

Simply put, the multilayer hydrophobic (water-repellent) coating makes it more difficult for dust and dirt particles to adhere to the lens, improving vision performance. Water droplets simply drip off the face of the lens leaving you to focus on the finish line.
