Scale of operationsIn its present status, the fund allocations of HelpAge India are being utilized under four major heads through its various activities. The major programme heads are:(i) Social(ii) Health(iii) Economic, and(iv) Disaster Risk Reduction and ResponseThese operations are covered for the old aged people and funds are utilized accordingly.TRAININGSBasic training through HI Refresher Course for Caregivers to around 200 caregivers from Old Age Homes in 20 cities.

A pilot Training of Trainers (ToT) Course in Bhopal is aimed at building a cadre of trainers in different cities, who will in collaboration with HI, use their individual old age home as a training hub for training family and domestic caregivers from among the local community around their respective Homes.

Adherence to lawsHelpAge India works for the inclusion of concerns and rights of senior citizens in the policies of the government. To this end, it works with civil society, the judiciary, legislators and the government both at the Centre and in the various states. In this, HelpAge India also harnesses the power of over 1000 Senior Citizens Association with which it is in close touch.

The promulgation ofThe Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, and the Draft National Policy for Senior Citizens, 2011 are recent successes in the Elder Rights area where the contribution of HelpAge India has been highly significant. Currently, it is actively participating in the Pension Parishadmovement to secure universal old age pensions.

Fun at work: Badshah RangeelaIn March 2013, Living Room Theatre andHelpAge India, under its aegis Stage forAge, staged multiple shows of BadshahRangeela. A 120 minute historical, extravaganza,it celebrated 100 years of Dilli complete withdance, music and poetry.

Badshah Rangeela was a reflection of lifefor many of Delhis senior citizens who grew uphearing stories of a Dilli dating back to the timeof Emperor Mohammed Shah Rangeela. Basedon the life and times of the Mughal Emperor,a time when Nadir Shah invaded India andplundered Delhi, the play enthralled the audiencetransporting them to another time and space.
