The Golden Standard
The Golden Standard:Getting an A* - C grade in :English LanguageMathematics or Numeracy3 other Subjects
Our tracking is based on how confident teachers are that students will leave with this combination
GCSE Target Grade: This is your child’s STRIVE target, which is calculated on the basis that your son or daughter will make 4 levels of progress from their End-of-Key-Stage-2 levels. It is aspirational and, if achieved, allows your child to compete with the best
Teacher Predicted Grade: If your child continues to learn and achieve at the same rate as they currently are, this is the grade which his or her teachers believes they will achieve at the end of the course. It is a prediction of future performance!
STRIVE Effort Level: This describes the effort level which your child is working at in each subject. It is worth looking at alongside the Target Grade and Predicted Grade as can often explain the two
Attendance: It should be 95% at least to give the child the best chance of gaining good grades

The Importance of Being in School
There is an undeniable link between your child’s attendance and how well they will achieve during their examinations.
The Welsh Assembly Government has set an a satisfactory target for attendance of 95%.
When we display attendance figures around the school we use an attendance figure of 97% to represent good attendance.

80% attendance = 40 days off
90% attendance = 20 days off

The Importance of Being in School
The table shows that in general the higher the percentage of sessions missed across the key stage, the lower the likely level of attainment at the end of KS4.
Specifically, pupils with no absence are 1.5 times more likely to achieve 5+ GCSEs A*-C or equivalent
and 2.8 times more likely to achieve 5+ GCSEs A*-C or equivalent including English and mathematics than pupils missing 15-20 per cent of KS4 lessons.

The Importance of Being in School
What we do . . . What you can do . . .We have an experienced member of staff prioritising Year 11 attendance. The member of staff will contact you immediately by phone if your child is absent without reason.
This member of staff will call on the house of the pupil as soon as possible on the morning of an absence if, following the phone call, no response has been obtained.
We are also committed to celebrating good attendance with reward schemes, along with making attendance high profile within the school.
Please do not arrange any holidays/long weekends/sports tours during school time.
Every effort should be made to arrange hospital/dental appointments outside of school time
If you are thinking of keeping your child at home due to illness, consider if it is absolutely necessary
Develop routines that encourage good attendance
You know your child better than anyone. If you feel they are making excuses for not attending school, send them in and ask to speak to their Co-Tutors or Head of House
