Do you guys work together?Z: We do a lot of things together!

… aha what kind of things?M: We actually work with Moonshine Bars and Town Hall and we run the iloveptown account.

Where will we find you guys on the weekend, where’s the latest hang out?Z: Town Hall, and we dig Great Dane too.

hello joburgers!

According to the 2014 MasterCard Global Destination Cities Index, Joburg expects to attract a total of 4.3 million overnight visitors

this year. Looking back at Hello Joburg’s 2014 issues it’s easy to see just how “vibrant, warm and friendly”

our city is (as described in a Q and A with the City of Johannesburg).

Here are some of the highlights: We interviewed dynamic chefs, performers and entrepreneurs like David Higgs, Pete-Goffe

Wood, Rocco de Villiers, and a true South African brand, Nandos, amongst others. We reviewed new restaurant openings such as Beluga, Remo’s Maximilliano, Social on Main, Perron, Royal India, Vicky Cristina’s, A La Bouffe, to name but a few. Joburg’s arts and culture scene is alive and kicking with productions like Spirit of the Dance, The Sound of Music, War Horse, Monty Python’s Spamalot, Brazouka, and others having been sold-out successes, and exhibitions like Da Vinci: the Genius having been extended because of popular demand. Joburg’s nightlife is full of energy from Sandton’s popular Hard Rock Café, to the Orbit in Braamfontein, to nighttime markets and pop-up bars.

If you missed any issues with these interviews, reviews and guides, go to MySubs to subscribe to and download back issues of Hello Joburg: www.mysubs.co.za.

The team at Hello Joburg wishes all our readers, both local and foreign, a safe and restful holiday period and a fun-filled New Year’s bash! We look forward to bringing you all the most up-to-date news and information about our exciting city in 2015.

Enjoy!

THE POOLSIDESummer time and the living is easy if your daddy is rich and

your ma is good-looking right? Not so much? Oh well – summer time is just as cool at The Poolside - which opened all of a month ago adding to the CBD’s increasing summer sense and flavour. If you read our review about the beach in our October issue you’ll know what we talking about.

Brainchild of family duo – brothers Sherwin and Bradley Harris and a once off Warren Bokwe, the Poolside, really is that oasis we all dream about in the sticky heat of city living when our annoying hipster friends frolic at The Beach of their coastal dreams.

Warren says that the concept is based around creating a relaxing environment around the pool with palm trees reminiscent of a resort, for patrons to enjoy what they call ALL DAY Aperitivo.

“All day Aperitivo is our take on the Italian afternoon ritual of unwinding over drinks and snacks but only around a pool and all day of course.” We like that and because any other scenario would be a half measure obviously!

“Adding to an array of already very interesting offerings in the acclaimed Maboneng Precinct, Poolside offers residents and visitors alike a beautiful setting to enjoy the company of friends over a tasteful selection of food and drink.”

So what’s the vibe? Queue the parasols and yellow candy striped cushioned loungers set out between palm trees with the pool as the centrepiece to create the backdrop for an idyllic tropical setting. Whether you’re catching a tan, or catching up with friends, Poolside makes for an informal unpretentious space set against the hustle and bustle of busy JHB CBD streets. The music policy is Balearic Cafe Del Mar, picking up the tempo as the bar gets busier.

Who does the venue target? The venue is geared at the upmarket cosmopolitan urbanite, who is ever seeking interesting, new spaces and experiences in the city.

Dress code: poolside baby so you’re welcome to pack your swimming trunks, flip flops, bikini and sarong.68 Juta Street, Braamfontein / www.facebook.com/[email protected]
