Beyond the bayit - April 27 - May 4, 2018
Sunday, June 3 2018 Meet the Honorees
Episode 1
Lorna & Mark Baker Guests of Honor
RSVP:
www.thebayit.org/journal
Mark has been a member of the Bayit since 1974, having been part of the original “boiler room” group.
Lorna joined him following their marriage in 2004. Mark has donated much of his time to the Bayit, serv-
ing for many years on the Board of Trustees and as Executive Vice President during the 70s and 80s. For
the past eight election cycles he has chaired the Nominating Committee. Mark combined his professional
work as a criminal defense attorney with his Bayit volunteer service last January when he conducted the
well-attended and engaging “Guilty Until Proven Innocent – Freeing the Wrongfully Convicted” program
featuring former prisoners, one of whom he had exonerated, discussing their experiences. Previously he
served as the “defense attorney” in two highly acclaimed mock trials at the Hebrew Institute where King
David and Forefather Jacob were the “accused.” Over the years, Mark has also secured the release of Rav
Avi from police custody more times than he cares to count. Lorna practices as a licensed clinical social
worker specializing in couples and addiction counseling helping many clients on a pro bono basis. She has
earned rave reviews on various internet sites for her warmth, caring, insight and selflessness.
Mark & Lorna are the proud parents of Cory and his wife Yael, and Lindsay and her husband Brian
Cooper. They are the proud grandparents of Max, Alexander, Ancel, Owen, Frankie and Isabella (all of
whom they share with Mark's “favorite ex-wife,” member Shelley Baker Rosenbaum). They are also the
proud parents of Lorna's children, Garret (and Patchie), Gregg (and Lauren) and Lisa Hayim, and proud
grandparents of Ethan, Shai, Noah, Ryan, and Hunter. Mark is known to children and their parents as the
“tootsie roll lollipop” man. Their behind the scenes acts of chessed and bikur cholim are an example for all
to follow.
Dinner: 5:30pm Program: 7:15pm
