Hyperion Enterprise and LedgerLink are no longer supported.
The Company’s recent rapid growth, has increased the demand
for more complex analyses.
The 10-year old Hyperion Enterprise application, already pushed
beyond its limits in terms of Entities, Accounts and Categories,
would need to be re-engineered to support Company’s new
business model.
Rust-Oleum’s parent company, RPM International, had recently
migrated from Hyperion Enterprise to Hyperion Financial
Management.
Current State: Hyperion Enterprise –Why Upgrade??

New Opportunities with HFM
Two Organizations and Two sets of Accounts (two separate data loads!)
were maintained in Hyperion Enterprise to meet Rust-Oleum internal and
Parent Co external reporting requirements>>HFM has unlimited Custom
Dimensions!!
Constant Currency Reporting – Because Category and Years are linked in
Hyperion Enterprise, Rust-Oleum maintained three Categories per Year to
achieve Constant Currency Reporting>>HFM has a single Scenario for all
Years!
Many short-term “fixes” were been applied to Hyperion Reports and
Hyperion Retrieve over the years. This was the opportunity to review current
reporting state and move forward with more dynamic Financial Reports and
analyses built with a much more powerful Smart View tool.
Web-based architecture of HFM allowed Rust-Oleum to move away from
Citrix and provide worldwide access to the consolidation system—a first!

Unlimited Dimensionality!!
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges
COST
CENTERS!
BUSINESS
GROUPS!
PLANTS!
CUSTOMERS!
But….Do the ERP systems support these
dimensions???
12
Custom Dimension Design
Custom 1(Large): Cost Centers, Customers, and Cash Flow
Custom 2 (Large): Parent Co Chart of Accounts, Stats
Custom 3 (Med): Parent Co Departmental Expenses, Stats
Custom 4 (Med): Plant, Rollforwards
Custom 5 (Med): Business Group
Custom 6 (Small): Source: Stat, US GAAP, Purchase Price Accounting
Custom 7 (Small): Rates
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges
13
FDQM Mapping
Starting Point: Ledger Link Maps
Developed new extract from primary source system which contained
Plant fields
Source Entity determines Business Group and Source
Utilized FDQM Custom Dimension functionality to map Target FM
Accounts to Parent Company Accounts and Parent Co Departmental
Expenses
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges
14
Data Validation
Utilized Hyperion Retrieve and Smart View and to validate data in HFM
against:
Hyperion Enterprise : Rust-Oleum View
Hyperion Enterprise: Parent Company View
Parent Company HFM Application
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges
15
HFM Enhancements
Constant Currency Reporting
Actual @ Plan Rates: Replaced multiple Hyperion Enterprise categories
with a single HFM Scenario; data copy automated via an HFM rule
Actual @ Prior Year Rates: Replaced multiple Hyperion Enterprise
categories with a single Rate dimension within the Actual Scenario
Statistics – Statistical rules were built from a Parent Co View to ensure
100% accuracy with Parent Co HFM application.
Cash Flow
Complete automation of Cash Flow process using Account and Custom 1
dimensions
Cash Flow rules were built to ensure 100% accuracy with Parent Co HFM
Cash Flow model.
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges

Reporting
Financial Reports
Replicated several standard Hyperion Enterprise reports
Developed Parent Co View reports to mirror Parent Company standard HFM
reports
Smart View – Existing Hyperion Retrieve analyses were analyzed and
converted to one of the following:
Smart View functions
Smart View Ad Hoc Queries
HFM Design: Considerations and Challenges
17
Administrator Training – delivered throughout the implementation
Rules Class for Administrators – based on Rust-Oleum HFM
application
End User Training – based on Rust-Oleum HFM application
HFM Navigation

Financial Reports
Weekly Power User Workshops – Led to early user acceptance!
Knowledge Transfer documentation delivered for key HFM, FDQM,
Reporting and Security processes
Training

Historical data: Loading from original ledger extracts would have
been more efficient.
Training: Pushing back the timing of the training sessions and
adding a more intensive review of metadata, coupled with weekly
training workshops, resulted in User acceptance.
Metadata: Understanding source system data definitions prior to
build of metadata members, i.e. statistical data.
Lessons Learned
19
Implement Plan & Forecast Processes for FY2016 and beyond
Develop Excel templates and FDQM to automate processes
Develop integration for loading of Plan and Forecast data into Parent
Company HFM application
Deliver training to non-US users.
Load additional years of history from Hyperion Enterprise.
Phase 2 and Next Steps

“We were fortunate to have great internal people matched with an experienced
partner with seasoned consultants who started and finished our project. In
previous lives, our consultants sat in our seats, had similar positions and spoke
our language. This helped them understand our needs while they learned our
unique requirements. They did not aim to shape our business deliverables that
have been used for years and decades but were able to present best practices,
where applicable, and make suggestions for us to consider. They learned,
listened and assisted with our implementation without trying to put us in a one-
size-fits-all solution. I could not imagine a better fit for Rust-Oleum!”
Chief Financial Officer, Rust-Oleum
