FDA Says Consumers Have No Right to Know if Salmon are Genetically Modified Tuesday, September 21, 2010

If theFood and Drug Administrationdecides to approvefor the first time the sale of a genetically-modifiedanimal (GMO) for Americans to consume, the deal willnot include a requirement that producers or retailerslabel the food as such.

FDA officials are still deciding whether to allow aspecial breed of salmon, known as AquAdvantage, to

be sold in stores. The fish is similar to an Atlantic salmon, only it has the genes

The AquAdvantage is so similar to the Atlantic variety that FDA officials wontrequire disclosure of its genetically-altered state. According to agency rules, aspecies has to be substantially different from its natural version before GMOlabeling is mandated.

This determination likely wont sit well with those opposing FDA approval ofAquAdvantage, who characterize the salmon as frankenfish, contending itcould cause allergies in people who eat it. They also fear that the GMO salmonwill decimate the population of natural wild salmon. Thousands of dead fish and at least one dead whale were found Monday near a Veniceshipping canal. Immediately the BP operatives went to work, citing oxygen levels andmicrobes yet completely IGNORING the possibility that this was caused by the toxicdispersant that they have continued to spray. Plaquemines Parish President BillyNungesser said there is no testing going on to determine if its from the oil spill

So the EPA is letting BP spray a known neurotoxin on the oceans and people ofthe gulf. NOAA is demanding that scientists keep their mouth shut. The CoastGuard is actually spraying the dispersant. Homeland Security is confiscating

SEPTEMBER 15TH, 2010--When looking at a load of newly delivered crab,the smell knocked us down, St. Bernard Parish seafood dealer Kevin Heiertold Fox 8 New Orleans.

Heier believes the crabs were contaminated with oil, according to Fox 8.

Heier was in total shock and had never seen anything like this before. Neither hadhis colleague whos been in the crab business for 60 years.

They contacted the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, reported Fox 8 and

Heier said, We got a biologist that was supposed to come here. About an hour passed

and he never showed up, so we called the biologist and he said my superior stopped me

from coming.

Fox 8 added that Heier said that after more than 24 hours the catch can not be tested

because all of the crabs have since died. They died already, said another dealer.Heier told Fox 8, Its like we cant get help from nobody.

Wildlife and Fisheries said it will test the crabs if new samples are collectedtomorrow.

St. Bernard fishermen, though, are convinced the crabs are full of oil and theybelieve the test results will prove their case, the report concludes.
