HAWAI’I POLICE DEPARTMENT BURGLARY : = 9 On March 8th, approximately 2:00 pm on Opihi Street in Hawaiian Beaches . Party reported unknown suspects entered residence thru unlocked bedroom window and removed a Mac lap- top and misc items. On March 9th, approximately 8:00 am on 19th ave in the HPP subdivision. Victim reported unknown suspect entered her residence by removing jalousies to a window and front door was open. Upon checks of the residence per the victim it was determined nothing was taken at the time. On March 9th, approximately 7:40 pm on Paradise drive in HPP . Victim reported unknown suspects gained entry thru a window and removed his Orbea Triathlon Bike as well as jewelry and numerous misc items. On March 11th, approximately 5:32 pm on Anuhea Street in Volcano . Victim reported that unknown suspects entered residence thru unlocked front door and removed 2x TV sets, cable box and also jewelry On March 12th, approximately 11:34 am on Ainaloa Blvd in the Ainaloa subdivision. Victim reported unknown suspects entered his residence thru unlocked kitchen window and removed numerous luxury luggage gear and jewelry from within. On March 13th, approximately 4:27 am on 12th street in Volcano . Victim reported unknown suspects entered her residence thru unlocked kitchen window and removed a Vizio TV a cable router, gaming systems and more misc items. On March 15th, approximately 11:31 am on Puolani Street in Volcano . Victim reported unknown suspects entered her residence thru door and removed numerous items such as various appliances and furniture from within. On March 16th, approximately 10:41 am on South Rd in Kaohe Homesteads . Victim reported unknown suspects entered her deceased fathers residence and removed an Macintosh laptop from within. On March 16th, approximately 1:08 pm on Alii Anela street in Volcano . Victim reported that unknown suspects entered her residence thru a glass window and removed a Magnavox TV set including Sony Vaio laptop, and other misc items from within. On March 9th, approximately 1:07 pm on Lehua Street in Fern Acres. Victim reported unknown suspects made entry into her Nissan vehicle thru unlocked car door and removed a wallet with

misc items within.

ROBBERY= 1

On March 7th, approximately 3:00 am on Kumu Street in Hawaiian Shores. Victim reported being confronted by 2 unknown masked suspects who gained entry thru unlocked front door, Victim stated medication was demanded and he was struck to the face after which suspects

grabbed a black backpack and fled the area in unknown direction.

CIVIL DEFENSE MESSAGE:

This is an eruption and lava flow information update for Friday, March 20th at 7:45 AM

This morning’s assessment continues to show very little activity in the down slope areas.

Small breakouts CONTINUE to be observed approximately 8 miles upslope and nearer to the

summit area. All current activity does not pose an immediate threat to area communities.

The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency and Hawaiian Volcano Observatory are maintain-

ing close observations of the flow and residents and businesses down slope will be informed

of any changes in flow activity and advancement.

Smoke and vog conditions were light with a light Northwest wind blowing the smoke and

vog in a Southeast direction. Smoke and vog conditions may increase in some areas and

individuals who may be sensitive or have respiratory problems are advised to take necessary

precautions and to remain indoors

Community Police Officer Duwayne WAIPA JR

School Resource Officer Joshua FLORES

They look forward to helping promote a safer environment and great work-

ing relationship between law enforcement and the community and schools

in which they serve. They can be contacted at the Pahoa Police station at

Officer WAIPA, was promoted to CPO for the Puna

district in September of 2014. He has been an officer

with Hawaii Police for 15 years and has previously

worked as a patrol officer in the Hilo and Hamakua

districts.

His sectors include:

- Hawaiian Paradise Park , Kaloli, Makuu Homestead

-Orchidland , Tiki Gardens, Ainaloa

Officer FLORES, was promoted to School Resource

Officer for the Puna district this January. He has

been an officer with Hawaii Police for 8 years and

has previously worked as a patrol officer in the

Kona and Puna districts. He is currently assigned

to Pahoa High and Intermediate school and works

with them to promote:

-Anti bullying, DARE program, HIPAL activities

so until Highway 130 becomes cut off by the current lava

flow.

The Pahoa Transfer Station has finished construction and is

Two men have been charged with an assortment of offenses related to a burglary

investigation.

The burglary was reported Monday (March 9) after a 35-year-old Keaʻau man re-

turned to his Hawaiian Paradise Park home and discovered evidence of a break-in.

He reported that a racing bicycle, electronics, CHECKS and jewelry, including a wed-

ding ring, had been removed from the home on Paradise Drive between 20th

Avenue and 21st Avenue.

On Tuesday (March 10) 19-year-old Bruce Rogee of Hilo reportedly attempted

to cash one of the victim’s checks at a BANKin Hilo. Rogee and 23-year-old Taylor

Kalawe of Keaʻau were arrested and taken to the Hilo police cellblock while

detectives from the Area I Criminal Investigations Section continued the investiga-

tion.

Search warrants were executed at Kalawe’s home on 19th Avenue in Hawaiian

Paradise Park and on a vehicle. Police recovered the wedding ring and several other

items stolen in Monday’s burglary.

After conferring with prosecutors, Kalawe was charged Thursday (March 12) with

second-degree theft, attempted second-degree theft and forgery. He was also

charged with contempt of court for an unrelated case. His bail was set at $30,150.

Rogee was charged with second-degree forgery, second-degree theft and two counts

of unauthorized possession of confidential personal information. His bail was set at

$8,000.

Police ask anyone with information about the burglary or the location of the bicycle

to call the Police Department’s non-emergency line at 935-3311.
