12 Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put

on tender mercies, kindness, humility,

meekness, longsuffering; 13 bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if

anyone has a complaint against another; even as

Christ forgave you, so you also must do.

The Nature of The New Man – (10,11)

“. . . Normal human distinctions are overruled and transfigured by one’s union in

Christ. All barriers are destroyed in Christ, and all believers are truly “created

equal.” So it is to be expected that each believer—regardless

of his nationality, former religion, culture, or economic

standing—should do away with his former sinful practices and should live in accord with his

“new self.” “ —Bible Knowledge Commentary

Colossians 3:12-14 (NKJV)

The Character of The New Man – (12-14)

Love is the supreme virtue – (1 Cor 13:1-8,13)

Love is to be put on – A command to be obeyed - (John 13:34; 15:12; 1 John 4:21)

Love “is the bond of perfection” – it binds all of these graces and virtues together – and thus binds believers together in unity - (Col 2:2; 1 Pet 4:8; Eph 4:1-4)Don McClain

Colossians 3:12-14 (NKJV)

14 But above all these

things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
