Hello everyone NAIDOC DAY 2020 Last Friday was the most important day on our school calendar. NAIDOC Day. Although it was a very different day to our usual event due to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions, it was a very special day none the less. We started the day with some beautiful readings from our Goannas students and this was followed with the Welcome to Country in Barkindji language by Year 1 student, Emmanuell Ward. The students then participated in a series of workshops, including a special presentation by Uncle Willy Hannah. A huge thank you to the organising committee for a hugely successful day! YEAR 6 HIGH SCHOOL ORIENTATION Tomorrow, all of our Year 6 students will be attending Coomealla High School for their orientation day. Students will need to make their own way to and from school. They will need to be in full school uniform. Uncle Will will also be attending for the morning session. I know our students will make us really proud. KINDY 2021 ORIENTATION Week 3 This Friday is our 3rd Kindy 2012 Orientation Day. Students will be at school from 9am until 1:50pm. There will be another action packed day of activities, learning and fun. It has been a huge success so far. If you know any school aged children who live in and around Dareton, please spread the word so that we have a big Kindy in 2021. END OF YEAR ACTIVITIES The current Covid-19 regulations regarding end of year functions including Year 6 Farewell and Presentation Day is that parents and community members are still not allowed to attend at this stage. It is hoped that there will be further easing of restrictions in the next few weeks so that we can properly celebrate our students. I will let you know as we get closer to the time, what the arrangements will be. STUDENT REPORTS & PARENT / TEACHER INTERVIEWS Student Report for Semester 2 will be sent home in a few weeks time. Teachers will be contacting parents by phone to discuss your child’s progress this Semester. It is an exciting time of year as many of our students have had some significant academic improvements over the last 6 months! STUDENT ATTENDANCE As you can see our Attendance results are getting worse. Every student must be at school every day unless they are sick and are seeing a Doctor. Please ensure you are doing everything possible to get your children to school everyday. An early bedtime is one of the most important aspects of ensuring children are up and ready for school. Our low data already means that the DoE Home School Liaison Officer is visiting families weekly to explain repeated absences. Have a great week! Jack is happy to display his work! We are so very proud of you Jack. You are a Strong, Smart, Safe and Proud learner! Our daily Phonics program is developing skills to blend and segment words. Jack has really improved his letter formation this term.

What a terrific day we had for our NAIDOC celebrations on Friday. The students enjoyed a talk by Uncle Willy Hannah, Cultural Kahoot, a Rainbow Serpent art activity and Johnny Cakes.

This week in Mathematics, we will continue to work on Fractions and Decimals and Position.

Our focus text this week is ‘Girl on Wire’ by Lucy Estela.

In Writing, we will be working on persuasive texts.

Have a wonderful week from Mrs Shaddock, Aunty Naomi and Josh.

As you know, Miss Smith is having some time away from school. In the meantime, I have the pleasure of being Perch’s classroom teacher until Miss Smith returns.

Friday was an extremely busy day, with NAIDOC Day celebrations, followed by karate and finishing the day with our PBL activity, which was a trip to the local pool.

To be eligible to go on these Friday afternoon trips to the pool, students need to be on their best behaviour throughout the week. This includes being in uniform, wearing hats during play and P.E. and most importantly, doing what is asked of them in the classroom and at-tempting to complete all of their work.

Unfortunately, there was no Library this week, but

please encourage your children to read every day at home. If they wish to borrow please and see me.

Before she went on leave, Miss Smith was able to give last week’s Student of the Week award to Wayne, for his incredible story writing throughout the week, including the story we published in last week ’s newsletter.

Miss Smith also gave an award to Missy for her help with the younger students during class.

Last Tuesday in Playgroup, we read the ‘Rainbow Serpent’ By Dick Roughsey, as part of celebrating NAIDOC week. We followed this by creating and decorating a huge Rainbow Serpent.

In our Playgroup Activity Packs for our toddlers. we included a very similar activity and also our Aboriginal Flag collage.

Our Early Years’ Activity Packs had Discovery Shaker Bottles for Babies, which included items the same colours as the Aboriginal Flag.

Playgroup continues to run on Tuesdays from 9:30am-11:00am. There are still a couple of spots available.

Transition to School is still running on Fridays from 9:00am.
