What does the “HSC Underground” do? “HSC Underground” represents a group of students who sing and play instruments ranging from keyboards and drums to stringed instruments. They organise and perform concerts to build their stage presence and confidence, for school events such as Hai Sing’s 60th Anniversary celebrations, National Day, Teachers’ Day and for visiting international friends. Our Drama Club put up a beautiful recollection of our island’s precolonial history. The crowd’s favourite was the sing-a-long session led by our student leaders. The crowd was really enthusiastic and they joined in the singing of our National Day songs. NRIC Presentation Ceremony We were delighted to have LTC (NS) Desmond Fu (Alumnus, 1998) to preside over our very first Sec 3 NRIC presentation ceremony. He delivered an impactful and inspirational speech entitled ‘Be excellent, be exceptional and build that which endures”. It was the night of our 60th Anniversary Celebration and Charity Dinner with the kind attendance of our Guest of Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security. On this special occasion, the alumni, ex-teachers and school leaders of Hai Sing Girls’ High, Hai Sing High and Hai Sing Catholic School celebrated as one Hai Sing family at the Hai Sing Catholic School premises. This was also a charity event to raise funds for upgrading the school in the next few years. Themed “Celebrating the HAI Life”, the event was an open concept buffet dinner, where the guests had the opportunity to mingle and catch up with old friends and teachers alike, reminisce over heritage exhibits and enjoy showcases and performances by current students. There was a carnival-like atmosphere, with our guests and staff dressed in shades of turquoise and blue which are the school’s colours.

6th July 2019 was a special evening for HaiSians of the past and present. It was the night of our 60th Anniversary Celebration and Charity Dinner with the kind attendance of our Guest of Honour, Mr Teo Chee Hean, Senior Minister and Coordinating Minister for National Security.

Racial HarmonyMany activities were held in conjunction with Racial Harmony Day in Week 5 of Term 3. Students came dressed in their ethnic costumes and took photographs together. In addition, the NA/NT Elective Module was carried out and the students served sumptuous European-themed dishes. There were also other activities such as the overseas learning journey presentations and the popular fashion parade!

WOW WednesdaysHai Sing’s WEDNESDAYS have been nothing short of WOW with activities such as Rock Climbing, Manga Drawing, Light Making and Roller Skating. Students from various levels and classes joined in the activities with their friends. The wide range of activities allowed students to explore and pursue their interests and passion.

Do You Know?

After School Engagement (ASE)More than 150 students benefited from various After School Engagement activities such as basketball, guitar, soccer, safe-riding, 3D-pen and digital greeting card and glider workshops! Our students enjoyed themselves in these activities. Thanks to Ms Lim Xinyi, Ms Lee Wan Xin, Ms Bharathi and Mr Tan Song Teck for conducting such engaging activities for the students.

Inter-House GamesThe PE Department strives to provide various sporting experiences to enrich students’ school life. Level Inter-house games were organised to develop camaraderie, demonstrate sportsmanship and provide opportunities for students to work as a team.

Games like Soccer, Tchouckball, Basketball, Captain’s ball, modified Netball, Frisbee, Volleyball and Boccia were organized.

NT Elective ModulesIn their Elective Modules (EM) programme for 2019, the students of 4 Graciousness and 3 Graciousness opted to learn to prepare American and Italian cuisine respectively. In their grand finale, both classes served up a delicious lunchtime treat. The students also put their marketing and business skills learnt in EBS to good use in promoting their yummy meals!

Overseas Learning Journey (Japan)A group of 32 students accompanied by 4 teachers made a trip to Sagano High School in Kyoto, Japan. This was the 7th exchange programme Hai Sing Catholic School was involved with our Japanese friends. Our students had the opportunity to participate in the Sagano Global Presentation, a bi-annual event, where students from different countries exchanged ideas on how to create a sustainable society, and the audience was very impressed by the creative ideas generated by our youths.

Besides the exchange programme, our students also enjoyed the various sights and activities planned for them. From making instant noodles in Osaka, to appreciating the tea culture in Kyoto and finally learning about the horrors of war at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, the experience our students received on the Japanese way of life was unforgettable!

HEW 1 - HAI Experiential Week 1HEW 1 was held from Monday 27th May 19 to 31st May 2019. This programme aims to increase students’ knowledge and understanding through exploratory and experiential learning as well as to enhance the joy of learning.

Several interesting and meaningful activities were planned to enrich our students’ outdoor learning experience as part of their post-exam activities.
