NEXT LEADERS MEETING:

NEXT MEETING: Monday, November 30 |Location TBD | 7:00 pm

Agenda items: Hand out 4-H Family Handbook

Hello 4-Hers!

Summer is coming to an end. It is now September, school is starting again, and 4-H still has a lot to offer! There are a ton of virtual learning opportunities going on every month across the state and nation that you can participate in and most of it is free. We have programming boxes that come fully stocked with everything you need to have your own project meetings at home. Extra curriculum and ideas are always available just by contacting me or a project leader. And we are now starting to be able to meet together in small groups with the proper social distancing and approval.

This year our plans have been altered a bit by a pandemic, but 4-H has always been a program that encourages self-discovery and learning on an individual basis. Take some time to think about what you want to learn this year. Maybe you want to learn how to fish, take care of bees, build with legos, sew a blanket, take pictures, or create a robot. 4-H has some great project books to help you do just that! Find a close friend or family member that is also interested in the same things you are and discover what you can learn together. If you get stuck, we have some really awesome volunteers who are more than willing to help and guide you! Not sure where to get started or who to ask, just contact me and I will help!

This year I am hoping to discover new ways of helping Outagamie County 4-H and its members! I also hope that you will find something that sparks your interest.

Best of Luck to you all this year!

Joy Vandenberg has been a member of the B-Square 4-H club for the past 10 years. Joy has been an excellent example to the 4-H program. Her ability to work so well with others sets her apart. Joy takes pride and does her best when accomplishing her projects. She has participated in numerous club, county and state level events. Highlights include the American Spirit Experience, Space Camp, participating at the State Horse Expo, earning the Key Award, earning seven Golden Book Awards and winning the Nancy Stingle cake decorating award six times!

She has held several officer positions and each year has taken a nice variety of projects thus allowing her to sample many opportunities 4-H has to offer. Joy has been a wonderful volunteer also having a wide variety from bell ringing to Fright Night to working the dairy bar and so much more.

Joy mentions in her essay that through 4-H, she has acquired many skills which will help her progress as a person in the academic and professional world. She has met many new friends within her club and across the state. The cake decorating skills learned through 4-H enabled her to acquire her part-time employment as a cake decorator.

Joy plans to go to UW-Stevens Point in the fall. As she answered in her second essay, “My 4-H experiences have contributed in equipping me to be successful in my future educations and life.” She expressed that she is extremely thankful to have been a part of such a wonderful organization called 4-H!

Joy will be receiving $1200.00 because of her high score from the judges who reviewed her application and she was the only member this year who submitted an application this year.

Thank you Joy Vandenberg for all of your time and effort you put forth to the Outagamie County 4-H program.

Running a Meeting During a Time of Social DistancingWhen can we get back to face-to-face programing?

Well, exciting news...in a small way, we can! We are being allowed to meet in small groups of 10 people with proper social distance and precautions or slightly larger groups outdoors of up to 50 with pods of 10 or less with proper social distancing.

Where do I start?

Please view the following training video, and response plan. If you are comfortable with the expectations and requirements you are welcome to fill out the program planning checklist. Once you are finished with the checklist please send it to Alicia at [email protected] at least 2 weeks before your planned meeting. Alicia will review the checklist, edit if needed, and submit for approval. Approvals can take up to a week to get approved by county and state staff.

I have lots of questions!

Please contact Alicia with any questions on this process. We are eager to get back to programming with our youth, but we must do so in a safe manner.
