A Joint Collaboration between the Diocese of Northwest Texas and the Diocese of West Texasa.k.a. A Friendly Competition among Bishops!
Each Diocese will raise the money to build one house ($2500) and recruit a team to go. The diocese that raises the most money for scholarships and additional ONIL stoves, water filters & solar lights will win a trophy! Some helpful information:• Folks do not need any construction experience. A good part of the work on each house is done
by local workers before we get there and we finish with the walls and installing the stove and putting together the furniture. Those who do go need to be able to walk up and down hills but we find work for every ability level.
• The women are selected by the missionaries we work with to coordinate the trips, Erv and Sally York. I’ve worked with Sally and Erv for 7 years now.
• The stoves are life changing for the families and we can install them in other homes besides the ones we build and Erv will hire men to install all that we raise the money for. They are $250 each. Here’s a short video done by Manos de Jesus (another missionary organization we work with in Guatemala) on installing the stoves. https://vimeo.com/42504235
• Water filter buckets are $50 each and the solar lights are $20. • The cost per person $1500 which includes airfare, ground transportation, and room and board
while in Guatemala. A $500 deposit & copy of your passport is required by June 1, 2019. Scholarship money will be available depending on how much is raised.
