Parish Mission Statement

At Saint James Catholic Church, we exist to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we strive to proclaim the gospel, we remain aware and committed to evangelization: living, manifesting and embodying the message of Jesus Christ and of His Church on a diocesan, parish, and personal level. Evangelization relates to everything we do as we respond to a growing and diverse Catholic community. We must reach out to the many alienated and un-churched among us, as well as work for Christian unity through ecumenical/interfaith partnerships. We must work to develop appropriate means to pass on the gift of faith to succeeding generations. Evangelization permeates all of our goals.

Adult Faith Formation Classes Bishop Robert Barron of Santa Barbara, fresh from addressing the staff at Facebook Headquarters in Menlo Park California, has just come out with a new DVD titled David The King. With all the energy and wisdom we have come to expect from Bishop Barron's lectures, in David the King he shows how to understand this pivotal figure in Jewish history. For David causes us to look backward toward Adam's kingship and forward toward Christ the King. In these 30 minute lectures, filmed before a large church audience, we will see how Christ is the fulfill-ment of the Davidic line and the realization of the kingdom of God on earth. Please consider joining us for the conclusion of these presentations at 10:00 am in the library on Thursday, November 30th. RCIA The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a parish program for those interested in joining the Roman Catholic Church. It is a nine month program aimed at formal entrance during the Easter Vigil Mass. The RCIA is specifically designed to be used for Non-Catholics but also those Catholics wishing to celebrate the sacrament of Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. The format is a study/discussion group led by our pastor Father John. If you know of anyone who might be interested in joining our faith community please have them con-tact the parish office for more information. Diocese News The Diocese of Raleigh is seeking qualified individuals to fill the positions of full-time staff parish auditor and part-time contract parish auditor. Both roles require 30-40% travel throughout the Diocese of Raleigh. For addi-tional information please go to the Diocese’s website at: www.dioceseofraleigh.org/employment. Project Rachel Weekend Retreat If you are suffering from an abortion, experience the love of Jesus Christ at a Project Rachel weekend retreat December 8-10, 2017. Participation is strictly confidential and offers a beautiful opportunity to experience God’s love, for-giveness and compassion. Altar Society Thank you to everyone who helped with the yard sale and made it such a success. The parishioners who worked at the sale, the people who donated items and the Altar Society who unpacked everything and priced them and a million other things too numerous to mention here. It was a great day for all! Gift Shop News Who is St Benedict? St. Benedict was born around 480 in Nursia, Italy, the son of a Roman noble. He was sent to Rome to finish his education, but soon left to live a life of solitude. After living for a time as a hermit, he was sought out and asked to become the leader and spiritual guide of a group of monks. Soon, other young men joined them and as their numbers increased, Benedict was led to build Monte Cassino, in Cassino Italy. This became the founda-tion of Monastic life. Soon, his beliefs and instructions were collected into what we know as the Rule of St. Benedict. Benedict died at Monte Cassino on March 21, 547. He is the Patron Saint of many causes, but especially for his intercession against evil and temptations. We invite you to stop by the Gift Shop and browse our St. Benedict collection. Social Concerns Ministry Men’s Homeless Shelter has opened as of Novem-ber 1st proving a safe, warm place to sleep, shower, have a hot meal and breakfast.
