There will not be a Robot Apocalypse anytime soon because robots struggle to perform simple tasks such

as lifting an egg without crushing it!

Swarm Robotics Swarm Robotics is the use of many small robots working together in order to accomplish larger goals

The idea was inspired by Ant colonies where alone one ant is not very effective but with the help of many others they can accomplish great tasks

Dr. James McLurkin of Rice University is making great progress in the field of Swarm Robotics and in fact he is developing Swarms that will be able to do things like exploring caves, searching for survivors in major disasters, finding landmines, and even exploring planets in space!

Losing jobs to robots? Today many robots already exist in the workplace

In China low wage workers are soon to be replaced by robots that can perform simple tasks such as putting pieces of merchandise together

“First Manufacturing Jobs, Next Service Jobs, Then Complex Jobs”

Some of the jobs robots are predicted to perform are:Baby-sitters Drivers Store clerks Eventually, more complex jobs could be performed by robots: Pharmacists Lawyers and paralegals Astronauts Soldiers Rescuers Writers

Philip K. Dick Robot

A robot was constructed in Dallas, Texas and Memphis, Tennessee from 2004 to 2005 that was made in the likeness of dead science fiction author Philip K. Dick.

It was fully autonomous meaning it could operate without any human input (no remote controls, microphones, etc.)

A sensor was built into its main computer that could keep track of people who came in and out of the room and could recognize their face and tell who it was and greet them.

Using complex algorithms it could pick up on key words in a conversation and generate an appropriate response

The robot was so human like that people who would talk to it became sympathetic to it and interacted with it in the way you would a friend.
