In general definition
A landslide is a geological phenomenon which includes a wide
range of ground movement, such as rock falls, deep failure of slopes and shallow
debris flows, which can occur in offshore, coastal and onshore environments.
The factors which influence whether
Slope angle Climate Weathering Water content Vegetation Overloading Geology, and slope stability.
Natural causes include
Elevation of pore water pressure by saturation of slope material from either intense or prolonged rainfall and seepage
Vibrations caused by earthquakes Undercutting of cliffs and banks by waves
or river erosion Volcanic eruptions.
Human causes include: Removal of vegetation Interference with, or changes to, natural
drainage Leaking pipes such as water and sewer
reticulation Modification of slopes by construction of
roads, railways, buildings, etc Overloading slopes Mining and quarrying activities Vibrations from heavy traffic, blasting, etc Excavation or displacement of rocks.
The characteristics of landslides
The emergence of new springs Happen after the rain on hill or cliff If the rainy season usually stagnant
water, but toward of the disaster, the water disappear.
Heard sound of rumble
The Process
1. The water seeped into the soil will add weight to the ground.
2. If water penetrates the soil impermeable to water which acts as a handful of fields, then the ground becomes slippery.
3. Furthermore, weathering of soil above it will move to follow the slope and exit slopes.
How to prevent landslides??
Stop illegal logging !!! Stop illegal mining !!! Make Drynase or terasland Don’t make a new farmland
