• Red, White, and Black lived along the Mississippi and the Missouri River.
• They built houses far apart so they would have room for barns and black slaves
• They had orchards , gardens and cedar post fence.
• Some made houses of stone if they were wealthy but mostly there were log houses.
• The houses were 1 story high.
• There were steep roofs, porches and simple furniture.
• They had wooden shutters and shingles.
• African Americans were slaves.
• Men hunted and trapped wild animals.
• The men rowed the boats.
• The women were house keepers.
• The women were servants.
•The Indians borrowed Guns, Blankets, & Fur from the Spaniards.
•The French bought moccasins & leather pants from the Indians.
• Most first Missourians were farmers.
• Every one had to take care of the crops.
• The children ran around in the garden.
• Lead mining was a dangerous job.
• Fur was hard to get .
• They ran lead mines near Ste. Genevieve.
