the revenue to help pay for some upcoming repairs
and insurance.
Greetings Fellow Legionaries...
We had a good crowd at our last meeting con-
sidering it was the first one this year at 7 pm.
Also it was great surprise for Legionnaire
Younginer. He was presented a quilt from the
Legion Riders called “Folds of Honor”. They
are attempting to provide one to every WWII
veteran. It was a wonderful presentation and he
did not know and was completely shocked when
they called his name. Legionnaire Podewil made
the presentation as he is a member of the riders
and our post also. Legionnaire Reynolds re-
ceived the surprise on the Sunday prior to our
last meeting too. (See pictures inside this news-
letter with contact information for other presen-
tations)
A reminder... baseball is in progress, please
look at the schedule and come out and support
our TWO teams. We have a junior and a senior
team this year. As always, we can use sponsors
for the teams. Please send in any contributions
to the attention of Legionnaire Burnett.
Convention will be over by our next meeting
and a full report will be given then. I will be on
vacation for our next meeting and Vice Com-
mander Hall will be in charge. The meeting
time will be 7 pm on June the 11th.
For God and Country,
David A. Griffith
Commander

ADJUTANT’S CORNER — Terry Atwater, Post 7 Adjutant
Project Josiah Restoration Ministry
“2016 Project Josiah
Alex English Golf Tournament”
“In Support of Combat Veterans with PTSD”
The event is June 7th. I am including two pieces below and in an email to
you.
Background
The mission of the Project Josiah Restoration Ministry is “To bring Com-
bat Veterans together to strengthen, to share and to improve their lives; to
empower them to make choices using biblical principles; to heal them-
selves and to enable them to help other Veterans.”
The ministry tends to use faith based organizations to host meetings and
support groups of Veterans. It is only Combat Veterans who attend these
meetings in order to provide the maximum environment for trust and open-
ness. This ministry primarily focuses on non-clinical support for Veterans
with PTSD or other combat situations that weigh on their conscience. Many Veterans throughout time have had no way and
no one to confide and help them deal with battle trauma. This is where Project Josiah allows this sharing and support to oc-
cur. It also encourages those who have benefitted, to mentor and assist other combat veterans.
If medical treatment or psychological counseling is needed, then referrals to the VA are made.
The website has a number of testimonials from combat veterans. The current groups are not only in Columbia, but Charles-
ton, Aiken, Sumter and development is occurring in the Upstate, Savannah, Charlotte and Tennessee.
The national director of the organization is Pastor Bobby Farmer and is overseen by a board composed of
Veterans from World War II up to the Iraq/Afghanistan wars. The website is:

Featured Medal: Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal The Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal (MOVSM) is a military
award which was created under Executive Order 12830 by George H. W. Bush
on January 9, 1993. The medal was designed by the Institute of Heraldry and
was first issued in December 1993. The MOVSM recognizes those members
of the military (active duty, reserve and national guard) who perform substan-
tial volunteer service to the local community above and beyond the duties re-
quired as a member of the United States Armed Forces. Such volunteer service
must be made in a sustained and direct nature towards the civilian community,
must be significant in nature to produce tangible results, and must reflect fa-
vorably on the military service and the United States Department of Defense.
The definition of volunteer service is left intentionally vague, allowing for a
wide variety of activities and volunteer duties which would qualify a service
member for the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal. Typical volun-
teer work includes Volunteer Emergency Services (like the Civil Air Patrol),
Habitat for Humanity, soup kitchen work, etc. The MOVSM is a bronze
medal, 1 1/4 inches in diameter. The obverse bears five interlaced annulets be-
hind a five-pointed star, surrounded by a laurel wreath. On the reverse is an oak
sprig with three leaves and two acorns between the inscription OUT-
STANDING VOLUNTEER SERVICE above and UNITED STATES ARMED
FORCES below. The suspension and service ribbon consists of the following stripes: bluebird and
goldenlight.

Father's Day is a celebration hon-oring fathers and celebrating father-
hood, paternal bonds, and the influ-
ence of fathers in society. Many coun-
tries celebrate it on the third Sunday
of June, though it is also celebrated
widely on other days by many other countries.
Father's Day was inaugurated in the United
States in the early 20th century to comple-
ment Mother's Day in celebrating fathers and
maleparenting. Its first celebration was in the
Spokane YMCA on June 19, 1910.
