Thank You! The 2013 Greene County Fair was a success! Thanks to everyone for helping with different fair activities! We have a lot of great volunteers; please be sure to say thank you by sending them thank you cards. Also, be sure to send thank you cards to your premium buyers and award sponsors! State Fair Exhibit Pick-Up: Don’t forget to pick up your state fair exhibits August 20th – 21st at the Greene County Extension Office. Fair – Lost & Found Item: One item was found after the fair – a pair of slightly tinted sunglasses with a silver wire rim around the top. A picture has been posted on our Facebook page Greene County 4-H. Online Re-Enrollment in 4-H: Online Re-enrollment starts Tuesday, September 3rd! Re-enrollment help sheets are available at the Extension Office and on the Greene County web page. Extension Staff will be available to help you enroll online if you have questions about the process. If you need extra help, plan to make an appointment with Extension Staff to enroll online. Re-enrollments are due November 15th, 2013. There will be a $25.00 late fee per family if you enroll after November 15th. Record Keeping: Record what you have learned and accomplished this past year in 4-H by completing your 4-H record book! Record keeping forms, help sheets, award packets, and examples can be found at the Extension Office and also on the Greene County 4-H website. Record Keeping and Award Packets are due to the Extension Office by September 16th, 2013 in order to be eligible for county awards.

2013-2014 Upcoming Club Meeting Times: Please check with your club leader about the first meeting for your club. Some clubs will start meeting in August, and some will not start meeting until September. Shooting Sports Meeting August 15th: The Shooting Sports club will be meeting on Thursday, August 15th, at 5:00pm at Slininger Woods. This meeting will be good practice for the youth that plan to attend the Des Moines Rifle & Revolver Club Smallbore Prone Match on Saturday, August 17th in Van Meter. The group attending on Saturday, August 17th will plan to leave the Extension Office at 7:00am. Since it is a new year, each member and their guardian will need to sign a new waiver for the 2013-2014 year. Leaders, please pick up the waivers at the Extension Office. Families may also pick up and sign forms here at the Extension Office during office hours. 2013 Herdsmanship Winners: This year’s top three winning clubs for the Herdsmanship Award were as follows: 1st Place - Washington Winners, 2nd Place -Greenbrier, and 3rd Place - Hardin Happy Hustlers. Washington Winners will receive a $100 prize permanently endowed by the Roger Clause Memorial Fund through the Greene County 4-H Foundation. They will also receive stall preference for the 2014 fair! At the Awards Ceremony in November the top three clubs will be announced and will receive their awards. Young Leaders Applications: If you are interested in giving back to your community, helping younger Greene County 4-Hers, gaining leadership experiences, and having fun, then go ahead and join the Greene County Young Leaders! Applications are due by September 16th, 2013, and can be found at the Extension Office or on our website.
