Customized Solutions from Carl Zeissfor a Wide Diversity of Customer Requirements
Medical Systems: Plastic surgery for an icon of modern artSurgical microscopes from Carl Zeiss are not only a valuable tool for surgeons, but also for art restorers. One example is the preservation of Edvard Munch's famous painting "The Scream" using an OPMI Pentero. After the painting was stolen in 2004, the Munch Museum in Oslo was able to make it accessible again to the public in May 2008.
Carl Zeiss Vision: Individualized optimization for everyoneA unique method helps eyeglass wearers to see naturally. Opticians determine the necessary lens power using "subjective refraction" - with direct light and contracted pupils. However, complex visual defects only occur with dilated pupils, e.g. at night. Carl Zeiss has developed a technology which simulates this situation. i.Scription optimizes eyeglass lenses for each wearer - far beyond the dioptric power..
Industrial Metrology: Precision speeds up Formula 1 racing carsPrecision and customized development are vital for cars racing in motorsports series such as Formula 1. Any inaccuracy in the manufacture of the car body may cost precious seconds, as this would increase air resistance. Nearly all Formula 1 teams rely on measuring technology from Carl Zeiss to build precise car bodies and make their racing cars even faster.

Intraocular lenses prevent avoidable blindness
Intraocular lenses from Carl Zeiss replace the natural lens of the cataract eye, thus restoring the patient's vision and quality of life.
The lenses are implanted through an incision of only 1.5 millimeters which does not even need to be sutured.
At the same time, the special optical design of certain intraocular lenses also enables the correction of visual defects such as myopia, hyperopia or presbyopia.

Microscopy – Maximum Flexibility
Carl Zeiss sets new standards in fluorescence microscopy
The LSM 710 laser scanning microscope offers new features for biomedical research. It is currently the only microscope which can image up to ten fluorescence dyes simultaneously.
The system makes it possible to investigate cellular changes which lead to strokes or Alzheimer's disease.

Carl Zeiss Vision – Better Vision
A new generation of ZEISS progressive lenses
The new GT2 3D progressive lenses provide exceptional depth perception and natural vision.
The key to this improvement is larger transition zones between the near and distance ranges. Thanks to natural 3D vision, eyeglass wearers require only a minimum familiarization period.

Outlook:Good Start Provides the Basis for Continued Success
Carl Zeiss started fiscal year 2007/08 with the wind in its sails. The second half of the year will see a slowdown in the growth in revenues due tothe downturn in the semiconductor industry. All other business groups are planningto continue their business at an unchanged level until September.
Carl Zeiss makes innovation its top priority and will continue to invest in research and development as an essential prerequisite for market strength and success.
The company is creating new jobs: in fiscal year 2007/08, the Carl Zeiss Group already recruited more than 360 employees, over half of whom were in Germany.
Overall, Carl Zeiss expects good results for fiscal year 2007/08.
