History Of Google : Google, the leading search engine worldwide, was founded in 1998 by

Stanford University graduate students Larry Page and Sergei Brin. While at Stanford in 1996, Page and Brin began developing a search engine they eventually entitled BackRub. This search engine was designed to look at the connecting links between web pages in order to determine a site's authority. In 1998, Page and Brin set up their first data center in Page's dorm.

Andy Bechtolsheim, one of the founders of Sun Microsystems, invested $100,000 in the company after receiving a demo of their search technology. Eventually the pair raised over $1M.

Google, Inc. was established on September 7, 1998 in a friend's garage in Menlo Park, California.

In their humble beginnings, Google served over 10,000 queries a day and quickly gained a reputation as a trustworthy source of information.

Google achieved praise and publicity as news spread rapidly through online and offline media as well as their receipt of numerous awards and recommendations.

History of Bing : Bing also in past known as ( MSN Live Search, Windows Live

Search, MSN Search) is the current decision engine (As Per Microsoft Tag Line).

Its complete operations started on June 3, 2009. Bing is different from google in its Algo, Listing Style, and search suggestions in real time as queries are entered and a list of related searches (called "Explorer pane" on the left side of search results) based on semantic technology from Powerset, which Microsoft purchased in 2008.

Bing includes the ability to Save & Share search histories via Windows Live SkyDrive, Facebook and email. The word "bing" is an onomatopoeia, a word that imitates the sound it represents. Through focus groups Microsoft decided that the name Bing was memorable, short, easy to spell, and that it would function well as a URL around the world.

Google’s Achievements Till Now : AdSense

The self-serve advertising platform for Websites, introduced without the AdSense moniker in 2003, is culturally significant for giving any Website a fully automated way to make money. It's also a cash cow for Google, accounting for 30 percent of total revenues in the fourth quarter of 2010 ($8.44 billion).

Youtube:

When Google bought YouTube in 2006, it was already a popular site for streaming video--but naysayers questioned the acquisition's $1.65 billion price tag, and for years the site was shedding money. Not anymore. Although it isn't clear whether YouTube is profitable, the site is reportedly a big revenue maker thanks to 3 billion ad views per week.

Google Maps:

Google Maps isn't a big moneymaker, but it is the backbone for other important services such as Latitude, Places, and Maps Navigation. As Google goes local with offerings such as Hotpotand a possible Groupon competitor, it's crucial for the company to have its own mapping service.

Gmail

Gmail isn't the most popular Web-based e-mail program--Hotmail and

Yahoo Mail have it beat--but nonetheless it serves as a home base for other Google services such as GChat, voice calls, and contacts. And if you log on to check e-mail in the morning, you're effectively signed in to all Google services until you close your Web browser.

Android

Google gobbled up Android Inc. in 2005, and announced theAndroid smartphone platform two years later. At the time, Microsoft chief executive Steve Ballmer dismissed the news as "just some words on paper," but in a few years Android would become the U.S. consumer market's best-selling smartphone platform.

Chrome

Google Chrome, which launched in 2008, still lacks market sharecompared with Internet Explorer and Firefox, but it sets the agenda for Google's vision of Web-based computing with developments such as the Chrome Web Store and hardware-accelerated 3D graphics

iPhone Search

By partnering with Apple to provide the default search engine on iPhones, Google gained a foothold on a fast-growing mobile operating system. With the iPhone and Android both expanding at a rapid pace, Google now dominates the mobile search market, just as it does on PCs

IPO Google's initial public offering was a bit screwy, using an auction that was

supposed to determine what the company was really worth. It arguably didn't have that effect, but before the IPO, Eric Schmidt, Larry Page, and Sergey Brin were earning low-six-figure salaries. Going public lined their pockets with billions of dollars in company stock.

Bing’s Achievements Till Now : Visual Beauty –   Bing, No longer is a search engine a white page with a

text box. This isn’t the 90s where people use dial-ups. This is 2010. Why only text and blue links? If Apple sells with design, why can’t search results be beautiful? We deserve better, and Bing has shown the way.

Market Share Growth –  Ever since Google has emerged as the leader in

search, no competitor has ever gained momentum against Google. It slowly ebbed away market share of Altavista, Yahoo, Infoseek, Lycos, AOL, MSN Search, etc. For the first time, Bing stole share from Google. Consistently. For over 12 months. Never has this happened in history. Bing makes history everyday.

Page 13: Google vs Bing

Yahoo Integration –  The power of Google is to be able to learn from the

masses. The search engine usage behavior of Google users only help make Google a better engine. That is why it is critical have a significant mass of users behind Bing. Yahoo must have compared their engine to Bing. And finally to make a call that Bing was good enough for Yahoo, and hence the birth of a significant #2 player that has a chance to compete with Google.

Mojo for Microsoft –  Microsoft has never been a “cool” company. They are

professional, they are trustworthy, they are the brand for productivity and enterprises. But not the consumer moj(o)ito Google and Apple lay back and sip on. But just watch these videos. Bing is cool. Bing is rocking.

Affair with HTML5 –  Bing is not about just text and blue links. Bing is

about beauty. And with the proliferation of HTML5 support for rich graphics in a standardized language, it is the perfect direction for Bing to showcase the future of the web. This HTML5+Bing video says it all.

Bing Instant Answer –  Google encourages users to refine their search

queries: “new york”, then “new york vacation”, then “flight to new york”, then… Yes, and each time, you get more links. This is not what Bing’s about. Just look at its Instant Answer – conveniently organizing information for you.
