I just returned to my office after the quick celebration of Alyssa Peluso’s baby shower. In the Duro Dyne tradition, we celebrated this happy occasion with many of Alyssa’s co-workers and ate cake. (We love our cakes!). Alyssa joined Duro Dyne in March of 2004 and was swiftly promoted to Media Design Manager in 2006. Alyssa joined Duro Dyne in her early twenties, imme- diately adapting to the Duro Dyne culture. She has proven to be a very welcome addition to the Duro Dyne family. After graduating college, Alyssa worked for Computer Associates and also did graphic design work for a not- for-profit organization called the International Fauna Society. She joined Duro Dyne and immediately demonstrated an amazing talent for the arts and computer graphic design, along with an amazing work ethic and most importantly a fantastic personality. Alyssa has repeatedly been willing to take on additional work and always with a smile on her face! During her seven years here, Alyssa started out as Alyssa Irish and went from the single life to married life after tying the knot with Mike Peluso in 2010. Alyssa and Mike are expecting their “little one” in September and she promises to be back to work in three months. However, there were no guarantees that I would not bother her during her leave. I know we will all need some help to keep our print ads, literature design, web design, show display design, show scheduling and a sundry of other items Alyssa takes care of, under control. I just returned to my office after the quick celebrationof Alyssa Peluso’s baby shower. In the Duro Dynetradition, we celebrated this happy occasion withmany of Alyssa’s co-workers and ate cake. (We loveour cakes!).

Alyssa joined Duro Dyne in March of 2004 and wasswiftly promoted to Media Design Manager in 2006.Alyssa joined Duro Dyne in her early twenties, imme-diately adapting to the Duro Dyne culture. She hasproven to be a very welcome addition to the DuroDyne family.

She joined Duro Dyne and immediatelydemonstrated an amazing talent for the artsand computer graphic design, along with anamazing work ethic and most importantlya fantastic personality. How to Cool YourselfDuring this Summer’sHeat WaveAs fires ravage Arizona and sweltering heatsettles into many areas across the country, a newstudy published in the journal Climate Changetoday by Stanford scientists finds that large areasof the globe will warm up so quickly that eventhe coolest summers will be hotter than thehottest summers of the past 50 years.

Here’s some tips to remember:

Use light-colored roofing. If you have the choice, choose a lighter roof or roof coating. It willreflect sunlight rather than absorbing it.

Insulate your home. A home that has well-insu-lated walls and attic will actually keep the heatout of the house in hot seasons. Just imagineyour home as a gigantic styrofoam cooler! Thereare lots of insulation options to choose from, including types that can be conveniently blowninto your walls without much hassle. Anotherbonus is that there may be government grants tohelp offset the cost of this kind of upgrade.

This Summer’sGiveawayOur handy silver bookmarkis great for those hotweather days at the beach,on the boat, or at the tenniscourt. When you throwyour latest novel or anysummertime reading intoyour bag, you'll never loseyour place with this magnetic marker ! You canfold it over a page top - oreven mark the last line you readby sliding it from the side of the book.

Duro Dyne gives you one less thing to worryabout with our compliments! Have a carefreesummer!

Plant trees. Leafy trees can shade your home oryard and keep things considerably cooler.Deciduous trees (those that lose their leaves inwinter) will let sunlight through in winter whenit's desired and create shade in summer.

Don't put unshaded patios of concrete, stone, orbrick right against the house where they willref lect sun heat onto walls or windows, especially on the south or west sides. Rocks, stone, concrete, etc. also retain heat longer thanplanted areas after the sun goes down.

If you already have such a feature in your land-scape, plant a tree, so that it and that side of thebuilding will be shaded, especially during thehot parts of the day.

Awnings and porches can also provide shade.Build any summer porch on the north side ofyour house, on the shady side. The south andwest sides of your home will generally be thehottest and most in need of shade, so plan thelocation of windows and exterior doors in yourhome.

Send up the cool air.If your home has a basement and centralair system, have an HVAC professionaladd a cold air return in the basement topull the naturally cool air that falls downand recycle it into the rest of your homeby simply setting your furnace to "fan"

mode.

Install an individual room ventilation sys-tem with a cool air intake, hot air exhaust

and temperature and humidity controls. Thiswill bring the night-time air in and let the A/Ctake over in the middle of the day.

Install a whole-house fan. This will push hot air

into the attic, where it dissipates via attic vents. To cool your house, open a door to the basement, and make sure that all doors between the base-ment and the room where the fan is located areopen. Turn it on at night and open downstairswindows, and that'll cool down the house. However, make sure that you've got good atticvents, or else your attic won't take the heat.

Install attic vents. It's amazing how much differ-ence a cool attic makes to the temperature of ahouse. It stops that uncomfortable feeling ofwhen you've got a cool house but you feel heatradiating from the roof.

Don't forget that the human race lived for many, many years without air conditioning. Within thelimits of your particular health situation, yourbody can acclimate to the summer increase intemperature. Just become accustomed to thefact that you may have to alter your activities andschedule to 'beat the heat'.
