Past Outing Reports

Jan 2016 Outing, Yuma AZ Hosted by Chuck & Arlys Rogers

The Yuma Outing was held Jan 13-18, 2016. A great time was had by all that attended. The Collins, Watkins, Koches, Poynters and Rogers were joined by Dave Lee who flew into Yuma and stayed in the Rogers RV. A welcome Happy Hour was hosted at the Watkins rig in the Fortuna De Oro RV Park on Tuesday Jan 12. The Collins and Watkins had arrived early and of course the Koches, Poynters , and Rogers spend several months in the Yuma and Wellton area. Dave Lee flew in on Jan 13 and was picked up by Chuck. A potluck dinner with Brats and BBQ ribs was hosted by the Rogers on Jan 14. On Jan 15 the traditional all-u-can eat fish fry at Foothills Eatery was attended by all. Golf and shopping were on the list of things to do. A trip to Mexico as well as visits to the Camel farm in Yuma and the Tractor pull contest in Wellton. The Koches and Poynters hosted a Tacos and Enchiladas dinner after the Tractor pull. The weather was very nice and comfortable in the mid to high 60’s with little wind. On Saturday and Sunday the temperature rose into the 70’s. Be sure and put Yuma in your plans for next year. Chuck & Arlys Rogers

Dave

March 2016 outing at Casa De Fruta RV Park, Hollister

Hosted by Ken and Yvonne Collins.

Attendance went from 11 rigs to 9 rigs, due to

unexpected cancelations by Couser and

Farley/Ayers. Members present: Collins, Deaton, Eldred,

Fernandez, Morgado, Nyland, Watkins.

Guests present of Ken and Yvonne's Good Sam Chapter,

Lazy Daisy Sams: Larry Sautter and Nancy Peters with

her sister Janet Peters, also Ed Nilsen and Ede Evans.

They felt so much at home with GCT that we may see

them at more outings.

The area offered plenty for side trips or just staying at

the park for wine tasting, gold panning, browse their

market and gift shop, or get Casa de Fruta's famous pies

for potluck dinner. We had all meals in the club room

plenty food, and more food, of course, starting with

scrambled eggs full breakfast on Friday, and dinner of

baked potatoes for which each rig had to supply a can of

their favorite chili which was simmered in a big pot.

Saturday's potluck of lasagna with side dishes, and pies

for dessert.

We had a super fun time with activities in the Music

Hall throughout the rainy days. There was a giant 1,000

piece Ravensburger jigsaw puzzle in the works during the

weekend, and Ken had a craft session, making a bird from

a discarded McDonald's milk bottle. Also Yvonne

showed how to make an Easter Bunny using a small

flower pot, white paint, pompoms, and more, at which

Shirley

excelled. Friday

we had a

contest with

rewards for

everyone. Each

couple had to

complete a 100-

piece puzzle to

claim their prize. 1st place awarded to super fast John &

Shirley Watkins, and everyone finished at their own pace

claiming a gift of choice.

Saturday was the "door prize" raffle, with a gift for each

person. Of course, the gift could be "stolen" by the next

person. You bet, there was also time for "31" as usual.

A few left on Sunday after the continental breakfast, with

the majority going home Monday.

Good time was had by all. We enjoyed hosting!

New Members dues - Discussion of the bylaws and the present new member process. Questions on where the process came from. Janice noted that it was all reviewed and voted on before the present bylaws were updated. C.J. will have the executive committee and Dick meet and propose any updates and changes. Voting - One proposal that all voting be by email was discussed. Changes would be emailed out to all members with a 7 day discussion period and three days to vote. Here is a Tech Tip

Shower Mixing Valve by Ed Fernandez

Most RV's including my Winnebago View come with a two handle shower faucet which makes it very difficult to set and maintain a comfortable water temperature and wastes a lot of water and holding tank space in the process. My solution was to replace the two handle faucet with a "Thermostatic Mixing Valve" which I purchased from Amazon. Evidently these valves are extensively used in Europe. Here is a link to the Amazon site, $42.99. There are also several videos on YouTube showing installation. Check mine out next trip together.

Newsletter Name

Many clubs have a name for their newsletter. Do you think we should have a name for this newsletter? Send me your thoughts or names. We will discuss at future outings and maybe vote on it at the April outing. So far no one has suggested a name for the newsletter. So I am thinking we must want to let it be as the e-Newsletter.

Port O Bodega

This popular outing is sold out. But many times there are cancellations. So, if all

the sudden you want to go give Dick a call, just in case. Sounds like Dick has a

MONDAY, JULY 18 to THURSDAY, JULY 21, 2016 Lucy Farley and Michelle Hey, Wagon Masters

Come join us for a “cool” time in the Pt. Reyes area away from the summer heat

(average temps in low to mid 60’s) at this top-rated park.

12 Sites are reserved, (10 are taken) all with Wi-Fi and full (W/S/E) hook-ups (10 have 50 amp service). Rate per night is $40 (including tax) for 10 rigs, which increases to $47 per night for less

A deposit for one-half your total stay charge is due on March 25, 2016, so if you are staying 3 nights, the deposit amount is $60; 4 nights’ stay deposit is $80. Cancellation can be made up to 1 month prior to arrival without penalty; after that deposit refund is pro-rated; cancellation within 5 days of arrival forfeits total deposit. Please use the form below to make your reservation and send your deposit check payable to Lucy Farley. Call Lucy at (916) 283-6885 if you have any questions.

Events being planned include a Chili Cook off, White Elephant gift exchange and a visit to

Cowgirl Creamery with hands-on experience in curd-making.

Recipe for Throw-Together Raw Vegetable Salad: Lucy Farley recommends this salad as a good way to use raw vegetables you have in the refrigerator,

including any or all of the following:

Broccoli

Green Cabbage

Red Cabbage

Carrots

Cauliflower

Celery

Red Onions

Select vegetables to taste and chop to general uniform consistency (except Carrots, which are best shredded).

Add Raisins, and Sunflower Seeds or Pine Nuts to taste.

Dressing should be light and on the "thin runny" side; you can make general slaw dressing using Mayonnaise,

Sugar, Vinegar, Salt and Pepper, or bottled Ranch or Bleu Cheese is good. Lucy suggests diluting bottled

dressing with milk to desired taste and consistency.

Serves as many people as you want to chop vegetables!

Tech Tip Question -

From Jim Ayers and Lucy Farley: We are finding that the "clip" latches on our trailer cabinets are so tight that

we often have trouble opening them. While we're glad that the cabinet doors don't fly open in transit, we have

to tug and pull quite a few times and with some force to get them open, made more difficult by arthritic hands.

Has anyone else had this problem and found a good solution, other than leaving them the way they are?

Answer from John Saylor: Our rig did not come

with any latches so we used cabinet baby locks:

You can purchase these at Target and Lowes.

The Gold Country Travelers RV Club is not a brand specific club. Members own campers, travel trailers, 5th wheels and motor homes of many different makes. Our members volunteer to take turns as wagon masters on a monthly basis. We have an outing once a month, January through November. During December we leave our rigs at home and celebrate the year at a local restaurant. We sometimes take extended trips to places such as

Quartzsite, Yuma and Oregon. We are all about having fun, fellowship or just relaxing at our campsites. Our members share travel ideas, stories, technical, maintenance and repair ideas they have learned from experiences. The cooks in the club

share recipes and cooking stories. Our quarterly newsletter and website keep members informed of upcoming and past activities.
