Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay Jim Cockrum: Hi, my name is Jim Cockrum, and this is a course that I've put together. We’re calling it The Proven eBay Course. The reason I use the word “proven” will become apparent very soon. We’ll get more to that later. This is a concept that I’ve seen work over and over again, and I can’t wait to share it with you guys. I’ve been learning all kinds of exciting things this week, interviewing people who are doing it successfully. Even though I’ve been doing it myself successfully for a while, I learned a lot this week in preparing for this presentation. I really think we’re going to blow your socks off today. There won’t be any live interaction on this call. You’ll hear Skip McGrath, my special guest, and you’ll hear me, but you won’t be able to interact with us live. That’s not necessarily bad news, though. As we go through this course, at the end I’ll be giving you the link to the Resource page where there’s a discussion forum that is dedicated just to the course. What that means is that the 15 or 20 people that I’ve gathered together who are already doing this business very successfully and have agreed to help you guys out will all be on this discussion forum. Also, anyone listening to the sound of my voice right now, you’re also invited to participate in that discussion forum as a paid member of this course. We’re just going to get together, share ideas, and ask questions. You could be completely new to the concept of selling things on the Internet; that’s okay. Or, you could be very experienced and already have a half-million-dollar business running out of your home; this is still for you.

Going Big with eBaySelling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay

JimCockrum: Hi, my name is Jim Cockrum, and thisis a course that I've put together. We’re calling it TheProven eBay Course. The reason I use the word “proven”will become apparent very soon. We’ll get more to thatlater.

This is a concept that I’ve seen work over andover again, and I can’t wait to share it with you guys.I’ve been learning all kinds of exciting things this week, interviewing people who are doing it successfully.

Even though I’ve been doing it myself successfullyfor a while, I learned a lot this week in preparing for thispresentation. I really think we’re going to blow your socksoff today.

There won’t be any live interaction on this call. You’ll hear Skip McGrath, my special guest, and you’ll hearme, but you won’t be able to interact with us live. That’s notnecessarily bad news, though.

As we go through this course, at the end I’ll begiving you the link to the Resource page where there’s adiscussion forum that is dedicated just to the course.

What that means is that the 15 or 20 people thatI’ve gathered together who are already doing this businessvery successfully and have agreed to help you guys out willall be on this discussion forum.

Also, anyone listening to the sound of my voiceright now, you’re also invited to participate in thatdiscussion forum as a paid member of this course.

We’re just going to get together, share ideas, andask questions. You could be completely new to the conceptof selling things on the Internet; that’s okay. Or, you couldbe very experienced and already have a half-million-dollarbusiness running out of your home; this is still for you.

Page 2: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

That discussion forum will be very valuablebecause we’re going to dig deeper into this and helpeverybody with any issues they might have.

There’s also a lot of supporting information thatwe’ll talk about more on this call that goes along with thiscourse. Again, along with the notes for this call that we’redoing right now, all of that information can be found.

I’ll give this address once more, so grab a pen andpaper. Go to www.MySilentTeam.com/pec.html. At the verytop, you’ll see the notes for this call.

Now, don’t get distracted with everything elsethat’s on that page because, believe me, there is somegreat stuff on there; but let’s just get through this training.

Hey, Skip, are you still with me, buddy? I didn’tput you to sleep yet, did I?

SkipMcGrath: No, not at all, Jim. I’m glad to be here.

Jim: Alright, buddy. Awesome. How are things outin your end of the world?

Skip: Pretty nice. We’re having nice, seasonal fallweather. It’s very pleasant. We’re out of the summer slump. Our eBay sales are picking up a bit now, and things arestarting to rock and roll again.

Jim: Yeah, I’m seeing some good numbers, too.I’m very encouraged right now. One of the things I wasgoing to start off with is just how optimistic I am aboutbeing an Internet entrepreneur these days. Things arepicking back up, there’s a lot of momentum, and we’remaking a lot of sales and having a lot of fun.

I always like hanging out and talking with Skipbecause he’s another guy that gets it. We’ve workedtogether for about seven or eight years. We’ve done thingsback and forth, Skip, and I know you’ve been selling oneBay since 1999.

Skip: That’s right.

Page 3: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Jim: I’ll do a little bit more of an officialpresentation here in just a moment to tell you a little bitmore about who Skip is and a little bit more about me. Idon’t want to get too stuck on those details yet because Iwant to try to stick to my slides if I can, but there will besome time in here.

Just so everyone on the call realizes, Skip hasn’tbeen prepared ahead of time for any of this. He’s myobserver. If there’s a question or something he thinks I’veleft out, or if he wants to ask me a hard question at somepoint on your behalf, he’s the class observer.

He’s going to ask the questions and bring up the points thatmaybe I’ve skipped over, and we’ll get through this.

If you have any questions at all, again, please goto the forum after this call. It’s at that link I gave you. Startposting your questions there, and you’ll find plenty of help. We’re excited to help you out.

Skip: I’ll be posting on the forum as well, Jim.

Jim: Absolutely. Thanks for pointing that out. I’vegot some really cool eBay experts that are going to be allover that forum.

If you started listing out the eBay experts on the planet, your Top Ten list would have to include this guy, SkipMcGrath. There’s no one who would argue with that point.

Man, I’m honored that you’re on this call, buddy, and I appreciate your help with this. I’m excited that I’mthe guy that got to introduce you to an idea you hadn’theard yet, because that’s not normal. You’ve been aroundthe block when it comes to eBay. I was excited to introduceyou to something that you hadn’t heard yet, which is reallycool.

Of course, it was introduced to me by a guy thatI did an interview with on the Resource page. His name isKevin Johnson. He introduced me to this concept, and I’vegot a cool one-hour interview on that Resource page linkthat I gave you guys.

Page 4: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Don’t go there now, though. We’ll check that out later.

Okay, let’s get through the presentation. Thesecond slide is actually an overview of what we’ll be doingtoday. I’m not going to read slides. I hate thosepresentations where the guy reads everything that’s on theslide.

Basically, we’re going to be covering the business. We’re going to overview it. We’re going to talk about howimportant eBay is to this business.

Although it’s not a complete necessity to implement eBayinto this business plan, it is an important piece of it, and it’slikely how most of you will get started with it.

Then we’ll get down to some nuts and bolts detailsabout how you do the business day to day. We’ll give yousome tips from people who are making a lot of money doingthis business. Then I’ll talk a little bit about the resourceswe have for you to help you succeed going forward in thisbusiness.

However, here’s the first thing I want to do. SlideNumber 3, if you’re looking at the presentation, is MeetYour Instructors. If you don’t know who I am, and you don’tknow who Skip is, it may not be real meaningful that we’retalking to you right now.

I’m going to start with Skip. Skip and Karenare good friends of mine. I’ve run into them on severaloccasions. What we have in common is that we both havevery active Internet businesses, and we also teach otherpeople how to establish Internet businesses.

The cool thing about Skip and me is that we havesome pretty solid reputations when it comes to Internetmarketing and eBay.

We really are very cautious about what we will endorse, thewords we use, how we treat people, and how we treat ourcustomers. There are a lot of success stories following bothof us.

You don’t have to just believe me when I saythese things. You can go to www.SkipMcGrath.com, and

Page 5: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

you can read his testimonials there and read his biographythere.

It’s the same thing with me. You can go towww.JimCockrum.com and see my blog and informationabout me.

More importantly, though, look at what otherpeople are saying about us. It’s just not that hard toresearch someone’s reputation in this day and age.

For example, if you go towww.MySilentTeam.com, there’s a link on there on the righttowards the top that says, “Check out Jim’s reputation.”You’ll see there’s an open discussion forum atwww.InternetMarketingReportCard.com where people writeand grade Internet gurus.

I don’t like to call myself a guru, but there’s nobetter word for it. If you start to teach people how tosucceed on the Internet, people start calling you a guru.

I’ve got a very high reputation there, and I’mproud of it. Skip has been doing this a long time; you canresearch. He should be very proud of what he’s doing.

When you buy something from us, whether it’sone of our $20 e-books, a membership site, coaching, orwhatever it is, we support you for life.

That’s what I love about Skip, and that’s my philosophy: wedon’t just teach it, we do it.

Is there anything you want to add to that, Skip?

Skip: That’s my life, not theirs.

Jim: Exactly. I’m so proud to be associated withyou, Skip. I know we have a lot in common. We have a lot ofgoals and ambitions for our own lives and for our customersthat we have in common. It’s a pleasure to be doing thiswith you.

Keep me honest, Dude. If you have a hard question, don’thold back, alright?

Page 6: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Skip: I won’t.

Jim: Let’s flip the page: The Multiple StreamsApproach. I know Skip endorses this approach, as well. Whyis it important in this day and age to have multiple streamsof income?

If the answer isn’t obvious to you, you need to realize thatthe unemployment rate in the United States is climbing withno end in sight right now.

Everyone on this call is from the United Statesbecause I pretty much only marketed this opportunity tothose of us in the U.S.

We’re looking at a situation where there’s no suchthing as a reliable job. Pretty much anyone can get laidoff. You can look at the old stand-by occupations even ofbeing a doctor, for example. There’s an earthquake goingon underneath that industry right now.

I just read that article yesterday, Skip, about adoctor. I posted it out on my Facebook account. The doctoris making more money selling on eBay part time than she isin her own medical practice full time.

Skip: Yeah, I heard about that. I didn’t see it onyour Facebook, but I read it in another blog yesterday thatI came across. That was an amazing story.

Jim: To me, at least one of the messages is clear:there’s no such thing as a truly stable single-income streamjob anymore. There’s just no such thing.

This whole multiple-streams thing you and I havebeen teaching for ten years is all of a sudden starting tomake a lot of sense to a lot of people.

Skip: I do it in all forms. Obviously, I’m primarilycentered on eBay, and that’s the biggest chunk of myincome. However, I make money from blogging. I makemoney selling on Amazon. We have three Web sites. I’veeven started on Twitter. I’ve managed to make a littlemoney through my Twitter account.

Page 7: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

There are just all kinds of things you can do, andyou have to take advantage of all of them. If somethinghappened and I screwed up or did something wronginadvertently, and eBay kicked me off tomorrow, I could fallback on those other streams of income.

Jim: Absolutely. You’re in a position where you cancontinue to move forward and add other streams. I coulddo an entire two-hour presentation on multiple incomestreams, so don’t get me started here.

Let me just sum it up this way. When I say“multiple income streams,” I’m not talking about workingmore and more and more, week after week after week, untilyou find yourself working 80 hours a week so you can holdup all these income streams.

If you’re doing it right, you’re not working any more. You’redoing a set-it-and-forget-it type of mentality.

It may take an hour or two of attention per week,or you pay someone else to do the work, but ultimately, it’ssomething that is completely automated and off of your lap,out of your mind; a business that bugs you the least. Youwant to get a bunch of those going.

That’s what I have at this point, that’s what Skiphas, and that’s what so many people who listen to thethings that Skip and I teach are doing. They’re trying tolaunch income streams.

What I’m going to talk to you about today, specifically the diabetic test strip business on eBay, isanother income stream.

I can tell you, Skip, 100% honest, and you knowI’m an honest guy; I don’t touch the diabetic test strips. Idon’t ever see them. I don’t ship them myself. I don’t runthe ads. I don’t do anything, yet I’m doing very well in thediabetic test strip business. It’s an active part of what I’mdoing on eBay.

I’ll be sharing my eBay account on the forum sopeople can see that what I’m saying is very true. I nevertouch the stuff. I’ve got other people doing it for me.

Page 8: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

That’s the multiple-income-stream strategy in practice. Ilive it out. I don’t just talk about it.

So, how do you know if an opportunity is trulya multiple-stream opportunity or not? It’s simple. Can itbe automated or nearly automated once it’s set in motion?Does the income continue indefinitely or at least for a verylong time?

If you find yourself trading dollars for hours, you’re not using the multiple-income stream approach. Ifyou find yourself doing repetitive work yourself, you’re notusing the multiple-income stream approach. That’s amentality that’s very important to your ongoing success.

I know there are people on this call right now,Skip, that are just saying, “Hey, dude. All I need is an extra$500 a month, and that would do wonders for my budget. My family needs an extra $500 a month right now so we canpay the light bill and eat out once a month, alright, buddy?”

I hear you. I know what you’re saying. I knowthere are people on the call that have that mentality rightnow, but I’m telling you don’t settle for $500 a month. Don’tsettle for $1,000 a month. Don’t settle for $5,000 a month. On the Internet, so much more is possible.

I’m not this extremely brilliant, talented, giftedguy that was somehow called out from the masses toachieve this success on the Internet. I’m just a normal dudethat started playing around on eBay one day ten years ago,and I kind of went where it took me.

Now I’ve got multiple income streams, and it’sbecause of the mentality that I’ve just talked about on SlideNumber 4 of this presentation. Don’t ignore the importanceof this slide. There’s lots more information on that, but I’mnot going to bore people with it.

How’s that, Skip? Is there anything you want toadd to that?

Skip: No. I think you got it in a pretty big nutshell.Just never stop.

Page 9: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

The only thing I would caution people about istrying to do too many things at the same time. I see peoplebouncing around from this idea to that idea, and this incomestream to that. Master one thing at a time.

Those of you who are totally new to doing thisand new to eBay, focus on just learning how to sell thesetest strips and how to make money from them. Then whenyou’ve mastered that, go on to the next item.

You don’t have to develop your multiples streamsof income this month. Every three or four months you canadd a new stream or do something different, but master onething at a time.

The worst thing you can do is get unfocused. Assoon as that happens, you start running into setbacks andfailures, and then you get discouraged and might give up.

Jim: That’s a great point, Skip. I’m not talkingabout chasing every shiny object that comes along on theInternet. If you subscribe to a few newsletters, you’ll havethe latest and greatest opportunity landing in your inbox;literally, two or three of them a day: “Drop everythingyou’re doing. You must focus on this!”

We’re being told every day as Internet marketers,“Hey, there’s the latest and greatest, the coolest thingever.”

That’s why it’s very important who you listen to.Also, as Skip said, implement. Notice that Skip and I areboth emphasizing this: implement it to completion. Get itrolling.

As entrepreneurs, I think one of our characterflaws is that we like to move ahead, move forward, changedirections constantly, and do new things.

However, what about the stuff that we knowworks? We kind of neglect it and leave it on the back burner. We let it run at 20% and we move on. Get it running to100% with excellence, and then move on, and give it theattention it needs to continue to move forward.

Page 10: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

If you’re not the kind of person who likes to jugglea handful of things at the same time, Internet marketingcan be a little bit frustrating.

Let me say this, though. Even if you only have oneor two, or maybe three things going on the Internet, that’senough to really do some amazing things to your family’sbudget.

Let’s talk about test strips, man. I have the nextslide here. This is just a recent auction. I don’t have thedate on here. I know it’s less than a week old. I have thedate on a couple others that I clipped in here.

Someone sold 600 diabetic test strips for $287. Ican tell you they probably paid around $50 or $60 to gettheir hands on these, and then they turned around and soldthem on eBay for $287.

This is what we’re talking about, guys. There aredozens of brands of test strips out there. There are millionsof sources of this inventory.

The demand is massive, and I’m going to tellyou exactly how this business works, including all kinds ofdetails. If I leave anything out, again, the forums will bethere for you to ask any questions you have. I just wantedto throw that slide in there to get people excited.

I’ll move down to the next slide, Slide Number 6:Why is the diabetic test strip business so big? It’s becauseso many people have diabetes.

Skip, you were telling me that’s something that you’ve dealtwith in the past.

Skip: It wasn’t diabetes. I had a condition abouta year ago where my doctor wanted me to check my bloodsugar every day for two or three days, before and after Iate. It turned out that wasn’t the problem; it was somethingelse, and we got it cleared up. It was nothing serious.

However, I had about 200 of these test strips. Ihad no idea they were so valuable. My cousin came to visitme a few weeks ago. He’s a diabetic, and I gave them tohim. I probably gave away $100 worth of test strips.

Page 11: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Jim: Had you known, you could have sold them oneBay! “Hey, cousin, go get your own.” [Laughter]

Skip: I had one opened box that I’d used six oreight strips from, and then I had three unopened boxes. Ididn’t have a clue.

Jim: That perfectly illustrates my point. Millionsof people are asked to monitor their blood sugar for atemporary time. They don’t necessarily have diabetes.

Some pregnant women are asked to monitor theirblood sugar levels while they’re pregnant, and they end upwith all these extra boxes.

The point is that there are a lot of people out therewho have these things sitting on their shelves expiring. They have $100 bills sitting on their shelves, and they don’teven know they’re there. That’s what it comes down to.

Therein lies the opportunity. This stuff is justgoing to spoil and be thrown in the trash unless we comein and save it. Let’s talk a little bit about the ethics of thisbusiness.

You may have questions about the ethics of thisbusiness: “Is this exploiting people who have diabetes? Thisjust doesn’t feel right. Is this legal? Is this a prescriptionitem? Are we selling drugs?”

I want to talk about these points a little bit. If thistopic interests you, there’s also a one-hour interview on theResource page where I talk with Kevin Johnson, who hasdiabetes, about the ethics of this business.

Let me tell you, Skip. After a year of looking atthis from every possible angle I can, this is as pure andclean of an opportunity as you’ll ever find.

Skip: I look at it as you’re helping people. WhenI gave my cousin these strips, he was really grateful. He’san older gentleman, and he’s on Medicare. Money is reallytight. I gave him what he would have paid $70, $80, or$100 for.

Page 12: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I’m sure I could have showed him where to buystrips for less money. One of the things I’m going to dowhen this is done is call him up and say, “Have you lookedon eBay for strips?”

I don’t think he has. He’s not an eBay type guy. He’s always complaining to me about the high cost of thestrips. He goes through a lot of them. I think he checks hissugar six or seven times a day.

Jim: Exactly. You’re doing him a favor. Ultimately, every person in the whole process wins. The person whohas them sitting on their shelf is turning something theywere going to throw into the trashcan into cash, so they’rehappy.

You’re taking these strips and giving them adecent deal for them, then turning around and selling themon eBay, and you make a profit, so you win.

The person buying them from you is also winningbecause the price point on eBay is around 60-70% whatthey would pay retail. That’s probably on the high end, actually. It’s probably more like 50% of what they’d retailfor in most cases, if not less.

Everybody in the whole process is winning. It’sreally about as pure of an economic example of a three-waywin as you will ever come up with. It’s completely legal andcompletely ethical.

As we both know, Skip, if eBay even has a hintof anything illegal or unethical, they’ll shut it down in aheartbeat. The fact is, though, there are hundreds of theseauctions going on on eBay at any given time. eBay is fullyaware of it, and they have no problem with it at all.

This is an over-the-counter item. It’s just likebuying a box of Band-Aids. You can go in and buy a box oftest strips. There’s nothing medicinal about these.

They’re basically an expensive Band-Aid: you putsome blood on it, and it gives you back a result and areader. It’s not medicinal. It’s not a prescription item. It’ssomething you can buy over the counter.

Page 13: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

You can go into your local CVS right now with$1,000 and buy every strip they have in the store if youwant. No one is going to think you’re a drug dealer. It’s asimple over-the-counter item.

Skip: One of the things I did after you introducedthis to me a couple of weeks ago was to go on eBay and dosome research.

I read all the eBay policies; all their policies about medicaland health devices, equipment, drugs, and everything. Thiswas clearly within their policies.

There was another thing that was astounding tome when I looked at the auctions. I searched completedauctions. This product has one of the highest sell-throughrates – what they call “conversion” rates – of any productI’ve ever seen on eBay in the ten years I’ve been on eBay.

Jim: That’s quite a statement coming from youbecause I know you’ve poured over a lot of data when itcomes to eBay.

Let me tell you this, though. It’s about an 85% sell-throughrate. That 15-20% that isn’t selling is because someone justwent out there and put too high of a price on it.

Skip: Yes.

Jim: If, on average, these things sell for $60 abox, someone went out there and put $75 on it to see if itwould sell, and it didn’t.

However, if you price it right, it will sell 100% ofthe time. I have a 100% sell-through rate on these, Skip, because I start my bidding at a dollar. I let the marketdecide what it’s worth and just let it run.

If people aren’t excited at this point, I wouldbe freaking out excited if I was being exposed to thisinformation for the first time.

I’d probably be hanging up the phone thinking, “Okay. I’lllisten to the rest of this later. I’m going to go find somediabetic test strips right now.”

Page 14: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Hang with us, though. Listen and we’ll be donewith this call soon. We’ll launch you out there, informed andready to rock.

There is one word of caution, though. If people aregetting their strips from Medicare or Medicaid and there’sactually a sticker on the box that says that, you’re notallowed by law to sell those.

To my knowledge, I don’t know if eBay monitorsthat or cares. I’m not sure. Could you get away with it?Probably. Is it legal? No. Medicare and Medicaid say, “Don’tdo that.” One way you could get yourself into trouble istrying to traffic those.

Skip: I wouldn’t take the chance.

Jim: No, it’s not worth it; absolutely not. We don’t.That’s one of the few questions we ask people when theycall us: “Where did you get these from?”

Let’s go the next slide, the day-to-day reality ofthis business on Slide Number 8. It’s this simple. You spreadthe word that you buy test strips, and we’ll tell you moreabout that in a moment. You buy the profitable strips forcash.

Now, not all the strips are profitable. You’ve gotto know ahead of time which ones are and aren’t.

On the Resource page, we’ve actually put together a coolreport, Skip, that shows, on average, for the last month –this is recent data – what these things sell for; which onesdo well and which ones don’t, and how much you can expectto get for them.

This isn’t exact science data. These are averages. My statistics background tells me that averages are prettyuseless when it comes to reading data.

My statistics professor always told me, “What’sthe standard deviation? Now, there are some facts you canuse!” Take an average with a grain of salt, but it will giveyou a good idea.

Page 15: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

You buy these profitable strips, and they’re eitherpicked up or delivered to you. Then you sell these strips, either on eBay or to wholesalers, which we’ll talk aboutlater.

There are people out there who are veryinterested in the strips that you get your hands on, andthey’ll pay you a lot more than you’re paying people toget them. These are the wholesalers. A lot of guys whoare doing big business - $5,000-a-week guys – are usingwholesalers.

You want to grow your customer base and growyour supply base continually; be growing both. As a bonuspoint, this is what Kevin is starting to get into and is talkingabout doing. He sells other items to this customer base.

As I talk about in my book atwww.SilentSalesMachine.com, one of the concepts Iintroduce is “What else might your customers be interestedin?”

What a captive audience, Skip! You’ve got peoplebuying diabetic test strips from you. What do you knowabout them? One thing is that they probably have diabetes,so they’re probably interested in health issues: maybeexercise, maybe diet.

Skip: Any kind of sugar-free food or candy, orrecipes, diets, or supplements. It just goes on and on.

Jim: Absolutely. The information product potentialthere! Associate yourself with some reputable informationabout diet, exercise, the kinds of food you eat, and anythingalong those lines. Maybe it’s a network marketingopportunity, for example.

There are all kinds of ways to stay within eBay’spolicies, and this is what I’ve been doing for a living for tenyears. It’s taking advantage of the marketing opportunitythat eBay presents us.

So, if you’ve got a product that’s drawing a largeaudience that is all in a certain niche market, there are allkinds of potential there.

Page 16: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Bottom line: selling the test strips for a fewhundred or few thousand dollars a week profit is the tip ofthe iceberg, believe it or not.

As good as that sounds to a lot of people, that’s the tip ofthe iceberg. You can be growing an audience of people thatare long-term loyal to you and getting your advice.

Maybe you don’t know anything about what kindof diet a diabetic should be on. Partner up with someonewho does. There are a lot of people out there who do.

I’m not going to go too far down this road, butI’m telling you that there’s a lot of really good informationon this subject to be learned. MySilentTeam.com is a goodresource for you.

Skip has information and I have information. We’re not going to go too far in that, but we both talkabout these kinds of concepts continually. That’s how youestablish multiple income streams.

Let’s jump down to Slide Number 9. Here’s one ofthe questions you’re going to get when you buy these stripsfrom people, and perhaps you’ve already anticipated this.People are going to ask you something along the lines of“What are you going to use these for? Why are you buyingthese from me? What’s in it for you?”

You will be asked this question. You need to beprepared for it. About the only thing you don’t want to sayis, “I’m going to sell them on eBay.” Then you’re creatingcompetition for yourself.

I was actually having a conversation recently withanother seller of test strips, and we were trying to think howto expand the business. We were saying, “Couldn’t you havepeople just drop their test strips off at one of these we-sell-things-for-you-on-eBay storefronts?”

We both immediately realized “What a horribleidea! With every person who brings their stuff in, you’recreating an instant competition for yourself.” So, we shotthat idea down pretty quickly.

Page 17: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Some of the other answers that people are givingare things like, “We get them to people who don’t haveinsurance, so they can buy them from us at a discount.”That’s 100% true.

Or they say, “We get them to people who can’tafford to pay retail.” That’s 100% true again.

I know some people in this business even acceptdonations of test strips. Some people don’t want money forthem: “You know what? It’s a medical item, and it’s goingto help somebody. Here you go. Take it.”

To me, the ethical thing to do at that point isdonate your proceeds or at least a large percentage of themat a minimum to some diabetes-type foundation that youchoose to support in this business if you’re going to do that.

You’ll have plenty of people who just want to give them toyou.

Skip: That’s a very good idea, Jim. One of thethings that I know is that eBay has The Giving WorksProgram. If you’re buying test strips for $50 and you’reselling them for $275, you can sign up with Giving Worksand give 10% to the American Diabetes Association.

Your customers who are buying from you arediabetics. They’re going to see that and appreciate that. It’sprobably going to help your business.

Jim: Absolutely. Great point, man. That’s all easilydone as you get into eBay. It’s just a checkbox that youcheck as you’re setting up your listing. It’s that easy. Nowyou’re donating a portion of your proceeds. Beautiful.

If you’re interested in more on this topic, theethics, the different strategies, and the Kevin Johnsoninterview on the Resource page are phenomenal. That’lldive you into this direction even more. You’ll get some moregood ideas along those lines.

The next is Slide Number 10, just to get youexcited. I’ve got a couple of ladies that run my eBaybusiness for me, and there’s one that helps me with the teststrips.

Page 18: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I just ran into her, literally, right before this callstarted, Skip. I said, “Hey, I’ve got to go. I’ve got to go dothis conference call.”

She said, “Well, I’m going to go pick up a bunchof One Touch test strips from this lady. She’s been trying totrack me down. She’s got a bunch of them for us.”

Look at this slide: this sold for $540. This isSeptember 30. The date is on there, though it’s kind ofsmall. This is a very recent auction. This person had 900 ofthese strips. That means there were probably nine of the100-count boxes, and they sold for $540.00.

I’ll give you a bit more of an idea of what wetypically pay people, but basically, it comes down to fivedollars for a 50-count box and $10 for a 100-count box. So,we paid about $90 for this inventory if this lady had cometo us. I don’t know how many Mary is picking up here in alittle while.

For this auction, though, someone had nine of the100-count boxes. They probably paid $80 or $90 to getthose, and they turned around and sold them for $540.

Now, that is a good profit margin on eBay! That’s aphenomenal profit margin.

Skip: When we sell new items on eBay, we’relooking for a 40% margin. When I sell a used item, Ialways look to at least double my money. Here, though, you’re tripling and quadrupling your money. This is just anamazing way to make money.

Jim: It’s mind blowing. You start to get into it, andit’s mind blowing. I’ll tell you that www.MySilentTeam.comis a membership site. I know you’ve made greatcontributions, too, Skip.

We’ve got several thousand members and there’s noopportunity on eBay that more of them are more excitedabout than this one. That’s how cool this is.

Of all the things you could be selling on eBay, thisis the most exciting thing we’ve got going right now. That’s

Page 19: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

why we’ve turned this into a course, put some purposebehind it, and decided to go down this road and really showpeople how to drill down and get into this business in a bigway. We’ll get more into that.

Check out the next slide: $770 for 2,200 of adifferent diabetic test strip. There are dozens of differentbrands. This works.

This is a September 27 auction. It’s a very recent auction. Ifyou go back 30 days, you would find hundreds of examplesof profitable auctions on eBay.

We’re jumping to Slide Number 12. Let’s lay thefoundation here; eBay is kind of foundational here. I knowthere are some people who are uncomfortable with eBay.Maybe they haven’t sold in a while, or maybe they’ve neversold on eBay, and they’re questioning that aspect of thebusiness.

Let’s just put that whole thing to rest. The eBaytutorials on www.eBay.com can get you up to speed inabout 30 minutes, and you can know most of what you’llever need to know.

Skip McGrath has some phenomenal books on thesubject, and so do I. Skip and I were joking yesterday:“Hey! You’re telling people to go to eBay.com’s Help Menu, dude! You’re going to kill our book sales.” We were kind ofjoking back and forth about that.

In all seriousness, though, you really can learn thebasics pretty simply, and you don’t need to go buy some800-page eBay For Dummies book to sell test strips oneBay.

If you know how to use your e-mail account, youcan learn to use eBay and sell test strips in less than a day;probably in less than an hour for most people.

The good news is that even if you’re a littleconfused, again, we’ve got that discussion forum. There areno stupid questions. We will help you out. We’ll hold yourhand and get you up to speed. This is as simple as it gets.

Page 20: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I’m going to be so bold as to say that if youcan’t make money on the Internet selling diabetic test stripson eBay, you definitely need to just shut off your Internetconnection, stick to the real world, and stay away from theInternet.

This is, literally, about as simple as it gets. Skip, would youdisagree with me on that?

Skip: No, I wouldn’t. By the way, you mentionedMySilentTeam. I sent you that new little mini-course I didlast week, the “eBay Secrets” mini-course. That’s for folks, and that’s free to all your SilentTeam members. It’s on thesite there to download.

Jim: It’s on the Resource page already. I’vealready added it to there. When people go towww.MySilentTeam.com/pec.html, you’ll see it. Rememberthat “pec” stands for Proven eBay Course. The “pec” are alllower-case letters.

Skip: Once you’ve mastered the very basics ofeBay, that free “eBay Secrets” mini-course takes you to thenext step. It tells you the really important ins and outs andtips and secrets that Power Sellers know about and thatbeginners might not.

Beyond that, as you said, if people come to myWeb site, I’ve got several different books and trainingcourses on eBay to help you.

Here’s what I do. I don’t teach people the basicsof eBay. I teach them how to become an eBay professional.People can learn the basics on their own.

Jim: That’s a good point. I kind of razzed both ofus there, but we both point people to eBay’s Help Menuwhen they’re getting started because that’s the best sourceof current information. Once you’re ready to get serious, though, that’s when Skip’s material and my material comeinto play.

Skip is heavily into the whole eBay businessarena, more so than I am. I’m more themultiple-income-stream guy, but our two messages meld

Page 21: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

together so well that we have a lot of mutual fans that listento both of us.

I appreciate what Skip does, and he appreciateswhat I do, I know. It’s a really good symbiotic relationshipthat we have going here.

Let’s jump to Slide Number 13: Getting Down toBusiness. Let’s start getting into some facts here. Where doI find the strips? How do I know if I’m getting good ones? What should I pay? Are there shipping concerns?

As a general rule, we pay five dollars for a50-count box and $10 for 100. There are times when we’llpay less; very rarely will we pay more. If they’re about toexpire, we may not pay them anything. We want a couplemonths’ buffer, at least.

If the box is unsealed, we don’t want it. If it’scrushed or damaged, we’re going to pay you less money forit. Keep those kinds of things in mind.

When you’re shipping these things out, especiallyif you’re shipping it to a wholesaler – someone who intendsto sell it again – you’ve got to make sure and use a sturdybox. People don’t want a crushed or damaged product. It’svery important that you package it well.

We’re going to get down to business on the nextseveral slides. We’ll be talking through several of the pointsthat I just made in more detail.

Go ahead and flip to the next slide, Slide Number14. Here are some tips from the pros. We’ll get into someof the people who are doing this business day to day. Whatare they doing to really grow their business?

One of the things is to start early on. As soonas you’ve got a system going, outsource the work. Hire adriver. Maybe have someone else do your ads and list themfor you in the papers. Maybe hire someone to work youreBay business.

Keep those things in mind early on. Don’t turn thisinto a dollars-for-hours proposition. Make sure it’s profitableenough that you can hire somebody else and pay someone

Page 22: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

else to do a lot of these things. These are the topics we’ll betalking about on the discussion forums.

Skip: This is a great opportunity for those of youwho might have high school kids or a neighborhood boy orgirl who’s 17 or 18 years old and has a car. Put them towork. There aren’t many jobs today for young kids in thiseconomy. They’re always looking for ways to make extramoney.

Jim: That’s absolutely correct. You make a goodpoint. I refuse to do $10-an-hour or $12-an-hour work.If the opportunity isn’t profitable enough that I can paysomeone else to do the junk work – the $10-an-hour stuff –then it’s just not profitable enough for me to be wasting mytime on.

Skip: If you work selling these things and you canbe making $50 an hour, and you’re doing work yourself thatonly pays $10 an hour, that’s like walking down the streetand stepping over a $20 bill to pick up a one-dollar bill.

Jim: Absolutely. I call it “the poverty mentality.”It’s that person who will get a one-dollar coupon and drivean hour to save a dollar at Wal-Mart, without realizing theyjust spent six dollars on gas.

It’s that poverty mentality. You think you’re doingwell. You think you’re doing something good, but when youdo the math and you add it up, you’re wasting time. Time isyour most valuable resource.

Skip: Absolutely.

Jim: You’ve got to keep that in mind. To automatethese things, to set them in motion and be able to stepaway from them is when you really begin to be able tocreate multiple income streams. You can tell I’m passionateabout that subject. I keep diverting back over to it.

Let me give everyone a list. Here’s where you canrun your classified ads. I’ve got a picture on this slide ofa dog reading the classified ad, symbolizing that you neverknow who’s going to read or see an ad.

Page 23: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I’ve talked to some test strip buyers. Someone ata college had read their ad and this college just happenedto have a bunch of excess strips that they had had on handin case students had needed them.

They were all coming up on expiring, but theywere still far enough out. The college knew they weren’tgoing to need them all, so they said, “Yeah, we’ll turn theseinto cash. Sure.”

So they called them. It was just a mother lode ofinventory in one afternoon with one phone call. You neverknow who’s going to see an ad, flip the switch, and just allof a sudden, a goldmine will land in your lap.

You can run your ads in any kind of Pennysaveror cheap daily or weekly classified ad for your community.Any kind of tear-off sheet can be left at several places likeLaundromats. Trailer parks are hot. You get the tear-offsheets with the phone number on the bottom, and you tearit off.

We’ve actually got a really cool example, Skip,of the tear-off sheet that we use in our business on theResource page. People can go in and put their phonenumber on, and that’s all you’ve got to do.

Print them off, cut the little slits, and hang them up. You willget phone calls.

Oddly enough, one of the best places to hangthem up based on what I’ve learned is trailer parks, believeit or not. I don’t know why that is, but those little tear tabsgo off like crazy if you’ve got any trailer parks near you. Youwill get phone calls.

You can leave them at restaurants, Laundromats, doctors and dentists, podiatrists, or with anyone who offersany kind of diabetic support meetings. A library might havediabetic support meetings.

If you Google the term “diabetic support groups”in your local area, you’re going to find out when they meet.We have people who go put flyers on the cars out in theparking lot.

Page 24: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

You can pay someone to do this which is what I do, or youcan go do it yourself. Think of where diabetics hang out.

Skip: Those are also places to sell your things aswell. If you have an option to get exposure to a diabeticsupport group, why not put a flyer together that says, “Callme. I have discount diabetic test strips”?

Jim: Absolutely. Once you get an inventory, youcan sell them to whomever you’d like.

Skip: You’re not paying the eBay fees. Speaking ofthat, while you were talking, I checked on Amazon. Thesethings are selling all over Amazon as well, so it’s not justeBay. You can also sell on Amazon.

Jim: Wow. That’s beautiful. You know, someoneneeds to do the research and see where they sell for moremoney. That’s very cool. I wasn’t even aware of that. I’mlearning as we go here. That’s very cool information.

One of the things that you hear over and overagain from people who are doing this business and havebeen doing it for more than six months or so is “Run yourad. Run your ad. Run your ad.”

Don’t run it for a week and then get depressedthat you didn’t get a call. You’ve got to keep running itsometimes, especially if it’s a free or low-cost ad. Keeprunning that ad.

Skip: I’ve done this before. I’ve run an ad everyweek for three weeks in a thing called The Clamdigger. It’sour local free paper.

The first two weeks there was nothing; then, theycall the third week. After people see an ad two or threetimes, they decide to call it. You put it in ConsignmentMerchandise to Sell. That’s a great way to go.

Jim: That’s just one of the rules of classified adadvertising. If people see it once, they’re very unlikely torespond. They have to have time to mull it over and see itagain.

Page 25: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Then they think, “This guy must be legit. He’s been therea while.” Then they’ll get around to calling eventually, butyou’ve got to have that repetitive exposure.

Here’s one of the cool ideas that I just learned acouple of days ago, interviewing some people who are doingreally well with this business.

The thing that revolutionized their business wasthat they didn’t just run their ad in the Want to Buy sectionof their classifieds. That’s typically where you wouldinstinctively go to place a classified ad, and we’ll tell youwhat to put in those ads in just a moment.

When they ran their ad, they put it in the ExerciseEquipment category or specifically the Exercise EquipmentWanted category, where people were shopping for exerciseequipment.

People with diabetes tend to have some concernsabout their health. Maybe they’re shopping for the firsttime. The doctor said, “You need to get in shape. You needto lose some weight.”

They’re out there searching for an exercisemachine, and lo and behold, there are all these extradiabetics test strips they’re going to have laying aroundbecause maybe their insurance company is sending themtoo many, or they’re buying multi-packs and they don’tneed as many as they thought or whatever.

For some reason, they’ve gotten really good results fromthat section.

I’ve just reminded myself of another point aboutthe ethics of this. I hate that I’m jumping around. I wishthat I had mentioned this sooner.

Again, in the Kevin Johnson interview that I did,we talked a lot about the ethics of this. I asked him verypoint blank, “Have you ever had a circumstance whereyou’ve had someone with diabetes who obviously needs tobe using these test strips, and they’ve come to you andsaid, ‘I need the cash worse than I need the strips’?”

Page 26: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

We talked about that in the interview which ison the Resource page. Go check it out. If any of you arestill struggling with the ethics of this, we really poured overthese issues. There are good answers to all of these things.

Of course, you want to do the ethical and rightthing in all circumstances. Skip and I will never tell youto do anything any differently than that. We’ve built ourbusinesses based on good, solid, sound ethics.

You can look at any part of my business and youwould see the same thing all the way through. Ask any ofmy employees or any customers that have worked with me,and you’ll hear the same thing.

I’m behind this concept, and I just wanted tothrow that out there because I just reminded myself thatthat was a point I didn’t make earlier.

Let’s talk about what else we’ve got for you guys. This is wrapping up quicker than I thought, but I’m glad itdidn’t stretch out too far. We’ve got so much for you onthe Resource page. There’s so much more good informationcoming.

I know there are probably a lot of questions outthere. On Slide Number 15, I want to go into just a little bitmore of what else we have for you besides this presentationthat you’re listening to right now. I called it All the OtherStuff. That’s the name of this slide.

Let’s talk about the Resource page. As Imentioned, Kevin Johnson is making $5,000 per weekselling just test strips.

Skip: Jim, I’ve got to tell you that I listened to thatinterview. That interview is worth what everyone paid forthis course.

Jim: By itself.

Skip: Yeah, just by itself.

Jim: Absolutely. I’ve been doing this for severalmonths. He’s been doing it for a couple of years. Heapproached me. I get approached weekly, Skip, as do you,

Page 27: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

with people who say, “Hey, I’ve got a great idea. If youcould just teach your people about this, I’d like to sell it andmake a little bit of money.”

They fill me in on their idea, and I say, “You needto do this. You need to do that. You need to sharpen it uphere and prove to me that it works, et cetera.”

Kevin was another one of those guys who camealong and said, “I think I’ve got something I could teachpeople here. What do you think?” We had a longconversation.

Just so you know, Skip, I’m really taking care ofKevin as a result of his help with this course. He was veryhappy with what we’re doing for him as a result of includinghim. He’ll be on the discussion forums, as well, helpingpeople out, just so you all know.

I was blown away by what this guy is doing. He’sbeen on stage in front of a bunch of people at a time nowbecause he is Mr. eBay. That’s his self-proclaimed title, and I think he’s earned it, buddy, because I’ve never seenanything this cool come along.

Skip: Here’s one of the things that I think is sointeresting. We limited the number of people we sold theprogram to because we didn’t want to have too muchcompetition.

If we had opened this up to thousands of people, that wouldswamp the market.

However, a lot of people still worry. I got e-mailsfrom several people saying, “You’re going to have all thesepeople on the call, and everybody’s going to do it, and thereare already several hundred people doing this on eBay. Isthere room?”

Here’s Kevin selling $5,000 a week of thesethings, and he’s not afraid to share his knowledge and bringin other competition.

He’s seeing, and he’s convinced that the market is that big.As good as the sales on eBay are right now, I don’t thinkthey’re penetrating even 20% of the potential market.

Page 28: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Jim: That percentage is high. I’ve actually studiedthat exact issue in my head thinking through this. Justlooking at the numbers, I think we’re looking at a two- tofive-percent penetration so far.

As far as the number of test strips that are beingthrown in the trash compared to what’s actually making itout there on eBay, it’s more like a fraction of a percent.

There is plenty of room for people to get the wordout and save these $100 bills from being flushed down thetoilet. That’s the visual image I want to leave people with.

Within ten minutes of your house right now today, there are people throwing away $50 and $100 bills withoutrealizing there’s any value there, literally. That’s whathappening.

I think we almost have a responsibility to get theword out because of the opportunity that’s there. Even ifyou find there’s someone else in your community doing this, there’s more than enough business for both of you, or threeof you or four of you.

It’s not the kind of thing where, “Oh, shoot. Oneother person discovered it. Now I’ve got to go do somethingdifferent.” It’s not like that.

Now, the price over time may shift a little bit, butas long as there are 23 million people in the United Stateswith diabetes throwing these strips away…

The thing we forget sometimes, Skip, is howfew people know. We think everyone knows about eBaybecause we know about it, but it’s a relatively tiny fractionof Americans that are comfortable getting on eBay andselling something.

It’s a very small fraction, and we’re among that group.

Skip: There are 85 million eBay users worldwide, and about 45 million in the U.S., but there are only 200,000or 300,000 sellers.

Page 29: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Jim: Exactly. Of those 200,000 or 300,000 sellers, how many of them are aware of this opportunity? A smallfraction. The opportunity is massive.

Also, the next point that I want to make may bemy most exciting point on my entire presentation today. So,if you’ve kind of zoned out on us a little bit, focus back in onme here.

I’m talking about how big this opportunity can be.So far, I’ve probably left people with the impression thatthis is a local thing and that you can only run this locally, asfar as I’m willing to drive or someone is willing to drive todrop these off.

How cool is this, Skip? Ben Mannino, which isa name you’ve probably heard, is another one of mycontributing experts on MySilentTeam.

Skip: I know Ben well.

Jim: He’s a cool dude; a very creative, excitingentrepreneur. He and I did an interview, and it’s part of yourbonus materials. Again, it’s on the Resource page for thiscourse. You’ve got to go listen to it when you’re done here.

If you’re not already excited, get ready to ramp itup when you listen to Kevin and Ben. You’re not going tobe able to sleep tonight if you listen to all three of these inone day, so you might not want to do it if you have troublesleeping. I’m totally serious.

A couple of years ago, Ben went to a local Pac-N-Ship, those little mom-and-pop stores that’ll ship boxes andproducts for you. They’ve got connections with UPS andFedEx, and they’ll use the U.S. Postal Service if you wantthem. They do it all, and it’s a mom-and-pop type of thing.

He partnered up with them to run a consignmentbusiness – and it’s a cool model – all on their own. Theywere buying other people’s old electronics, old magazines, and all the hot sellers: the old radios, antiques, collectibles, and things.

The problem they ran into is “Man, we’ve got to evaluateevery single one of these and make sure it’s worth it.”

Page 30: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Then they gave people an approval code so theycould bring it in with their form when they brought theitem in, if it was approved. Just taking the pictures and allthat turned into a bit of a headache, but he was still veryprofitable. They got it nailed.

Ben and I talk about that in this interview, butthen we bring the conversation around. If many of youhaven’t already made the leap yet, holy cow! You could dothis with test strips.

You could drive four hours one Saturday to atown near you, and set it all up there. You don’t have todo this locally. You could advertise in that other town intheir classified paper. Have someone hang up the flyers, etcetera, and the drop-off point is this Pac-N-Ship. They’ll shipit for you.

You pay the owners whatever cash they need topay the guys that are bringing in the test strips, and thepeople are paying you through eBay.

You’re listing the stuff. You’ve got pictures, stock photos, ofeverything you might ever need. You never need to travelto that town again. It’s a one-time thing. You set it up onetime, and you establish rapport and trust.

We talk all about this on that call, but I justwanted to ignite a little fire under people so they’rethinking, “Wow. This doesn’t just have to be in my localhometown here. This could be anyone I’m willing to evencall on the phone and establish this relationship with.”

Skip: Jim, that’s awesome. I live about two hoursnorth of Seattle in a somewhat rural area. The populationwithin a 50-mile driving radius of me is probably a quarterof a million people.

However, 75 miles south of here, in Seattle, you’re looking at a million-and-a-half people. With a fewtrips down to Seattle, I could set up an arrangement likethat, and all of a sudden, I’ve more than quadrupled mymarket. I’ve probably made it larger by a factor of eight orten.

Page 31: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Jim: You may not even need to drive down there.I don’t want to put more restrictions on this than arenecessary. You could call these guys on the phone and say,“I’ve got an idea. I’d kind of like to sign a non-competeagreement because I’m about to drop something on youthat I think could make some money. I’m not looking tocreate a competitor if you turn me down.”

You could start there if you’d never met. Most people wouldbe willing.

If someone called me up with that offer, I’d takethem up on it: “Sure. I won’t compete with you on the exactitem. It’s a singular item. I will not sell that from my store.I promise. As long as it’s not something I’m already doingor have plans to do, I can agree to that. That’s fine.”

You’re going to just drop this on them, and they’llsay, “I have never heard of that. Yeah, I’ll sign theagreement. Let’s figure this thing out.”

You’re creating a new income stream for them. They’re doing nothing except what they already do well, andthey’re taking the pain-in-the-butt part of being an eBayseller away from you.

They’re packing it up professionally and shipping itout in nice-looking boxes, arriving safely at the destination. That’s all stuff that we hate dealing with as eBay sellers. They’re taking care of all that for you. A pretty beautifulmodel, huh?

That’s the Ben Mannino interview. Now, on thatcall, we do talk about a couple other very easy businessmodels that have to do with eBay, consignment selling, andreally cool stuff. You’ll want to check that out.

Again, it’s part of the bonuses that are availableto everybody on this call and everyone who signed up forthe course. The discussion forum is there. All kinds of otherbonus items are there. That is going to be your landing pageas you get this thing ramped up and rolling.

Man, I’m impressed with how quickly we movedthrough this, Skip. I had allowed an hour and a half, butI guess I was thinking maybe there would be questions,

Page 32: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

but we’re not taking questions. We’re going to go on theforums. People can feel free to go there right now if theywant.

I’m flipping down to the last slide, Number 16:Get Started Today. Why not? This is everything you need. We’ve got a form you could go print out right now on yourprinter. Write your phone number on it, cut little slits in thebottom, and hang it up at the local trailer park, Laundromat,or doctor’s office, or wherever you’re allowed to.

Sometimes you have to ask permission; sometimes youdon’t. It could be your grocery store or wherever. Peopleare going to see this ad.

There’s one other thing I just realized I skippedover, Skip. The exact classified ads that you should run inyour paper – the ones that Kevin is using to earn $5,000 aweek – are on the Resource page. He agreed to give thoseto us.

Skip: You know, he’s been doing this so long thathe’s had a lot of experience with which ads work and whichones don’t. Whenever I do classified advertising or I go onCraigslist, I always have to experiment with those classifiedad titles and the wording.

Sometimes it takes two or three times to get the one thatworks just right. Kevin has already done that work forus. That’s what I meant when I said his interview was sovaluable.

Jim: Absolutely. He’s done the homework. Theseads work. If you run these ads, they will work. The beautifulthing about it is that classified advertising in thenewspapers has gotten pretty cheap.

They’re pretty desperate for the money. You could findsome really good deals, and don’t settle with their firstoffer.

If they say it’s going to cost X to run your ad forone month, say, “I want to run it for three months, but Iwant a really, really good deal. What can you do for me?”They’ll come down.

I’m discovering that everything is negotiable inthe economy we’re in right now. I’m negotiating with thecable company on my bill. I’m negotiating with Verizon, mycell phone company.

Everybody will give you a discount these days. That’s justthe mode that our country is in right now, and it just createsopportunities for us.

Hey, you just dropped the Craigslist word on us.Man, that’s a great place to advertise this. It costs younothing.

Skip: Let me tell you a little story. When you toldme about this, I wanted to wait until I’d been through allthis to do it myself.

I have a daughter-in-law who sells on eBay. My son is in theNavy and they live in a military town. She’s a pretty-ofteneBay seller; she’s not a Power Seller, but she has been. Shegoes up and down.

She’s a working mother and doesn’t have a lot oftime. I told her about this, and she just went on a classifiedsite that the people on the military base and the families inthat community read.

She got three or four calls from people who said, “Yeah, I’vegot a ton of these things.”

Jim: That’s awesome, dude.

Skip: She’ll be selling these here in the next fewdays on eBay.

Jim: That’s beautiful. Let me just remindeverybody. Don’t just blindly go paying five dollars and tendollars a box, thinking you’ve hit a goldmine. Research whatit sells for on eBay first. Remember: we’ve got that reportfor you on the Resource page.

You don’t have to use that as the only guide. You can go to eBay, do an Advanced Search to search forcompleted items, and it will show you the last 30 days. There’s enough activity on diabetic test strips.

Page 34: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

You’ll get a pretty good idea, and you can knowahead of time exactly what you can expect to sell thosetest strips for. Some brands just don’t sell well, Skip. Somebrands are saturated or something. There’s just no onelooking for them.

Skip: There’s one brand – is it Johnson & Johnson?– that you can’t sell because they have a Vero complaintpending or something.

Jim: Nice catch, yes. Johnson & Johnson decidedthey didn’t want their logo used on eBay if you put a pictureof the box out there.

Then, with eBay, it’s over-response. Theyoverreact frequently. They said, “Okay. No one can sell thatparticular brand.”

There are dozens of brands out there, though.Johnson & Johnson, with that one particular brand said, “Wedon’t like it.” So, stay away from that one particular brand.

We can discuss that on the forum. This is abusiness that literally changes and shifts week to weekand month to month with new opportunities, new ways toexpand it, and occasionally a new limitation.

For the most part, though, it’s pedal to the metal, let’s justroll forward with this. This is as easy as it gets.

Jump into this business. This is going to get youexcited about eBay and excited about making money on theInternet. This stuff works.

You don’t have to go out and spend a bunch of money to getthis rolling. This can be done on a dirt-cheap-low budget, and you’ll start to see results. I’m so excited about whatwe’ve put together for you guys.

Skip, as I’m looking at what we’ve put togetherhere – this package and the way it’s come together –I seriously could have and should have charged a fewthousand dollars for it, and it would have been totally worthit.

Page 35: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I hope everyone listening realizes that at this point. Wedefinitely could have.

Skip: I don’t see any reason anyone on this calltoday can’t put out an ad on Craigslist or your localclassified paper this afternoon and probably have test stripsin your hand by Monday. Put them on eBay and have themsold by next Friday and easily recover the cost of thiscourse.

Jim: If you’re motivated to actually take a few, very simple steps of action, you are 100% correct. It canhappen that quickly. If it doesn’t happen that quickly foryou, don’t get frustrated. Run your ads, run your ads, runyour ads. Get the word out.

There are people in your town with these thingssitting on their shelves, about to expire or maybe expiringsix or eight months from now.

They’ll end up in the trash if you don’t go save them. Thesepeople would love to have your money in exchange forthose strips.

They don’t want to go learn how to sell on eBay.These people don’t want to learn how to resell them. They’ve just got ten, twelve, or fifteen boxes. If you givethem $150, they’re happy. They’re more than happy. That’s some beer money for the weekend or whatever. They’re ecstatic. They love you.

Our customers love us, Skip. They don’t care ifwe’re selling it or not. They don’t care what we’re doingwith it. All they know is they’re turning something they weregoing to throw into the trash into some pocket money forthe weekend. They are ecstatic.

Then we turn around and do the business thatrequires listing, shipping, and staying legal with ourbusiness, and all the expenses and things that go along withit.

We’re earning our money, from my vantage point. It’s justsuch a highly profitable product. Go get started today.

Page 36: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Skip: There’s one thing I would like to point out. That’s where you recommend that once people get going, they hire some help to do this for them and use some of theother ideas to expand the business.

I would strongly recommend for your first threeor four weeks that you do everything yourself because youneed to really master the ins and outs of this before you cantrain someone else and hire someone else to do it.

Those of you who want to do this and don’t have alot of time, I think I’d invest the time in doing it yourself forthe first few weeks until you really have done a few salesand seen how it’s gone; seen what sold and what didn’t, andwhere you can get them.

At that point, go out and start hiring help to do some ofthese other things for you.

Jim: That’s great advice. One of the things I’vedone when I have people working this business with me,Skip, is asked them to not compete against me before I’veshared it with them.

If I can’t find someone I trust enough to ask that,I’m not going to ask them to help me out with the business.I need people I can trust not to compete with me becauseI’m exposing them not just to this idea, but to a whole hostof other, very powerful ideas.

MySilentTeam is a goldmine of just this type of opportunity, guys. This is just one of dozens.

I’m actually putting together a book right nowwith all these great ideas compiled into one place: multipleincome stream, qualified concepts that you can implement, and this is one of my favorites, but it’s not the only one byany means.

When people work for me, I say, “You’re going tobe exposed to some great ideas. I don’t want you going outand competing with me. You’re here to help me build mybusiness, and that’s the agreement that you have.”

Only work with people who can agree to that and who youtrust.

Page 37: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I’ve used friends. There’s always a friend that’sgot a kid you know you can trust, and he can go do thedriving around and picking these up.

However, as you said, Skip, start off by doingit yourself. That is phenomenal advice. You want tounderstand the business inside and out before you turn itover. Once you turn it over though, what a beautiful thing. It just runs itself.

There are lots of good resources for you guys.Jump out on the forum and introduce yourself. Say, “Hey,what’s up?” to everybody. Tell us where you’re from, andthat kind of thing.

We’ve got some experts ready and waiting, monitoring thatforum; people who are making money in this business rightnow.

One of the things that Skip and I do - if youhaven’t noticed, we stand apart a little bit – is that we don’thide our customers from each other.

You’ll notice that when a lot of Internet marketerssell you something, they kind of try to keep you separatedfrom all the other people who paid for the course.

I don’t know if you’ve ever noticed that phenomenon or not,but I don’t do that.

Skip: My auctions scroll right across the bottom ofmy homepage, and anyone can click on one of those andsee my sales.

Jim: Yeah. You can see Skip’s eBay account. We’reright out there. We’re not hiding anything from anybody.I throw all my customers into a big pool together andsay, “Hey, guys. Hang out and enjoy it. Talk amongstyourselves. If you don’t like me, say it out loud and we’lltalk about it. We’ll solve your problems.

“If you like something, say it out loud. We’re all one, big, happy family here. If you want to leave, here’s your money;thanks for coming.”

Page 38: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I run an open-book business. So many Internetentrepreneurs don’t do that. I just don’t know why. If whatyou’re teaching is legal, ethical, and it works, why are youafraid to have your customers talking to each other?

We’ve got a forum set up. You guys jump outthere, meet each other, and talk it up. Or just hang out andread what other people post.

Skip: I want to add something else. One of theways you can be creative is to take an idea and say, “Whatideas can that idea give me to do something else? Are thereany niches related to this?”

I thought of one, and I did the research on it thismorning. It’s going to be an article in my next newsletter, which comes out next Tuesday. Everyone on here that’s mycustomer probably already gets my newsletter. Some of youothers may not.

Jim: Go to www.SkipMcGrath.com if you don’t.

Skip: Yes, go to www.SkipMcGrath.com for a freenewsletter. It comes out twice a month. One of the items Ido every month is called “The Niche of the Month.”

I’m going to tease that my niche of the month isa niche – it’s not diabetic test strips, but something else –that this gave me the idea for. It’s something that, if you’redoing this, you could also do that using the same resources.

Jim: Awesome. Everyone sign up and subscribe. If you’re listening to this call after the fact, Skip hasnewsletter archives. Maybe we’ll link to that article and putit on the Resource page because it sounds like a good onefor everyone who’s taking this class.

That Resource page is going to be thereindefinitely. It’s set up as a resource for those who havepaid and listened to this call and this training.

It’s there long-term. The forum is there long-term. Thereare other bonuses. I don’t want to go into everything we’redoing for you guys because you can read it on your own onthe Resource page.

Page 39: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

One more time, though, and I’m going to endthe call with this link to the Resource page. You want togo to www.MySilentTeam.com/pec.html. You’ll have all theresources you need there.

The e-mail address that you need to contact usis [email protected]. That’s our main supporte-mail address.

If you have any problems accessing anythingor any problems with any of the links, drop us an e-mail. That’s the e-mail address that’s all over everythingassociated with this course. Let us know, and we’ll take careof you.

Wow. This has been fun, Skip. Don’t we get tohave fun for a living? Is this cool, or what, dude?

Skip: Yes, it is. I can’t thank you enough forcontacting me and asking me to be part of this, and beingable to expose this to my readers. I’m always looking atgood values to recommend.

I’ve got to say that when you told me about it andI first heard the price, I thought, “Gulp. Let’s be sure.” ThenI did the research and I found out how awesome this was.

Then I realized the price is a bargain. Literally, anyonelistening to this call today could have that money back intheir hands within probably seven to ten days.

However, one of the things about doing this kindof business: if you want to start your business, you haveto start your business. There are some people out therewho are perfectionists. They won’t start doing it until everysingle thing is in place.

This is one of those things that you can just veryeasily start, and you can learn as you go. You’ll make somemistakes at first.

You might even buy some test strips that can’t sell, andyou’re stuck with them. Go out and spend another tendollars and buy the right ones, and make money on those.Just start doing it, though. Don’t sit around, researchforever, and procrastinate.

Page 40: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

I would recommend you spend a couple of hourson the materials and the interviews on the Resource pagebefore you get started, and make sure you have all yourducks in a row and everything lined up.

Get out and do it, though. I would hope everyone on thiscall would have an ad on Craigslist by this time tomorrow.

Jim: Absolutely. There’s no reason not to. Also, ifyou let your inventory stack up a little bit, that’ll get youexcited to get out there and learn how to use eBay if youdon’t know how to do it yet.

We have links to some very basic beginnerinformation about eBay, as well, on the Resource page. It’s all there, guys: Skip’s book that will hold you by thehand and help you ramp up your business on eBay, learningabout how to find profitable products and how to run yourbusiness in a profitable manner.

It’s a great little book that he put together, and it’s so coolthat he’s giving it to us for free. We’ll be adding all kinds ofother stuff to that page, too.

The bottom line is that you’re going to beabsolutely crazy if you don’t take advantage of this afteryou see all we’ve put together.

If this call alone didn’t get you excited, onceyou’ve spent an hour or so on that Resource page, as I said, you’re not going to be able to sleep.

That’s my goal. I don’t want anyone who takes a look atthat to be able to sleep that night. Then I’ll think I’ve metmy goal.

So, jump on the forums and let us know what youthink. If we can help you with anything, Skip will be there, and I will be there.

I’m taking your success very seriously. I’mhonored that you spent your money on information that I’vecompiled and am delivering, and I intend to make you feellike it was one of the best investments you’ve ever made. That’s my goal, so let’s make that happen.

Page 41: Going Big with eBay Selling Diabetic Test Strips on eBay · very active Internet businesses, and we also teach other people how to establish Internet businesses. The cool thing about

Alright, Skip buddy, thanks for your time. TellKaren I said hey. I’d love to see you guys again soon. Thanks for your time today.

Skip: Okay. We’ll be catching up soon. Take careand good-bye to all my readers and yours. It was a realpleasure.

Jim: Thanks, everyone. We’ll have the recording ofthis call up live on the Resource page very soon along witha transcript for you so you can read it, if you’d rather readit than listen to it. That’s all coming, as well as everythingelse we’ve mentioned.

Thanks so much for your time. It’s an honor thatyou spent an hour or so with Skip and me. God bless. I’lltalk to you all soon.
