Convocation Ceremony, PGDM Batch 2011-13

A Convocation Ceremony was organized by S.G.P.C’s Guru Nanak Institute of Management

Studies on 12th October 2013 for PGDM Batch 2011-13.The eminent dignitaries present on the

occasion were, Dr. Naresh Chandra, Pro-Vice Chancellor, University of Mumbai, as the Guest of

Honor, Dr. Ajit Singh - Director General, GNIMS, Dr. N. Shani – Academic Head - GNIMS.

A procession was led by Mr.Bins Mathew, Controller Examinations, GNIMS, Dr. Ajit Singh, Dr.

Naresh Chandra, Dr. N. Shani, and Faculty In-Charges - Dr. Jyotinder Kaur Chaddah and Mr.

Kapil Bhopatkar. The Ceremony began with a prayer song. Dr. Ajit Singh, felicitated the Guest

of Honor, Dr. Naresh Chandra. Dr. Ajit Singh gave the Presidential address by and Key Note

address was given Dr. Naresh Chandra. Further the students were awarded the degrees by the

Guest of Honor and received a memento and a CD of their memories of GNIMS by Dr. Ajit

Singh. Also, the toppers of respective specializations and Overall topper of PGDM Batch 2011-

13 were given trophies. The pledge was then administered by Dr. Naresh Chandra followed by

Conferment of Degree by Dr. Ajit Singh.

Dr. N. Shani, proposed the Vote of Thanks. This was followed by procession to complete the

ceremony and then a photo session. An informal session of games was organized for the

students at the end by student volunteers. The ceremony was indeed a great success with the

support of all teaching, Non-teaching staff, student volunteers and the Convocation

Committee (Ms. Channpreet Kaur, Mr. Sameer Salunke and Ms. Suchita Shetty, Assistant

Professors, GNIMS)

     

Gaon Se Gaon Tak

“Gaon Se Gaon Tak” is a rural business plan contest held on 10th of October 2013 on campus in form of an exhibition organized by full time management students of GNIMS. This event was a one day exhibition put up by the full time students of MMS & PGDM which gave them an opportunity to exhibit their business models in front of the guest and the visitors. The exhibition was inaugurated by Dr Ajit Singh (Director General, GNIMS), Mr. Venkatesh

Iyer (Goli Vada Pav) and Dr N. Shani (Academic Head, GNIMS). In total 7 teams participated in the exhibition with great enthusiasm and a unique business plan. Over 150 students and staff came to see and appreciate the work done by students. Overall the event was a great success. “Satwik” was declared as “Winning team” of the show and has won the first prize for its rural business model.

Retail event for marketing Students

On 4th October 2013 GNIMS marketing department usesinnovative pedagogy to teach concepts to students.The Marketing department gave students an opportunity toturn Retailers for a day! And the students grabbed the chancewith both hands. The entire campus was buzzing withadvertisements, pamphlets about the programs.Students tried to create innovative store formats in the spaceallocated to them. Catalogue shopping, gaming zones, merchandising products from an NGO, Snehalaya, handmademerchandise, photo exhibition cum sale, Rs 25 Store anddifferent food stalls dotted the space.This event gave students a firsthand opportunity to experience and put into practice various aspects of organized retail.

Saraswati Puja:

Saraswati Puja was performed by all staff members under the initiative of the Library on 12th

Oct 2013. Saraswati is the Goddess of Education, Arts and Crafts. We all seek her blessings

forever.

Training Workshop for non teaching staff members

A Safety Drill / Work shop was successfully conducted on Friday – 18th October 2013 for all the non teaching staff members to prepare and plan for an emergency, to provide them fire safety information and instructions verbally as well as practically by Mr. Ronny –Proprietor-Blaze Fight Safety Services.

The following points were covered in the training:

• What is Fire?

• Types of Fire. • Causes of Fire.

• Types of Extinguishers.

• How to use Fire Extinguishers?

A practical demonstration / usage of fire equipments were shown with the active participation of the staff members right from opening the cylinders and using them during emergency.

Achievements: -

Dr Gautam Trehan and Dr Amarpreet Singh Ghura attended the Management Teachers

Program on Inorganic Growth Strategy 22-26 October, 2013 at Birla Institute of Management

Technology, Greater Noida. In the course of MTP Dr Gautam Trehan and Dr Amarpreet Singh

Ghura presented a case on Godrej Industries – Inorganic Growth. The faculty of BIMTECh

conducting the MTP included Dr Arun Sahay and Prof Sunil Sangra. The MTP was organized

in association with Strategic Management Forum- Lucknow. On the last day certificated were

awarded by Dr H S Chaturvedi- Director Birla Institute of Management Technology.
