The Album Series (sponsored by TD Music)

new this year, this series pays homage to six of the world’s most renowned recordings with live performances of classic albums. Music directed by Young Centre resident artists, each concert features a full ensemble of Festival artists and guest performers.

Neil Young’s After the Gold Rush (1970) Written during a prolific period in Young’s career Gold Rush features hit songs including “only Love Can Break Your Heart” and “When You Dance I Can really Feel Love”.

Carole King’s Tapestry (1971) Earning four Grammy awards, including song of the Year for “You’ve Got a Friend”, Tapestry became the longest-charting album by a female solo artist.

Paul Simon’s Graceland (1986) Eclectic, eccentric and unquestionably original, Graceland won the album of the Year Grammy in 1996 and features hits like “Diamonds on the soles of Her shoes” and “You Can Call Me al”.

Prince’s Purple Rain (1984)a multilayered, synth-heavy blend of rock, r&B and dance, this album sold over 20 million copies worldwide and songs like “When Doves Cry” and “Let's Go Crazy” have become pop classics.

The Beatles’ Abbey Road (1969) The last recorded album before their breakup, Abbey Road was a huge hit for the band, featuring some of their most cherished and timeless songs like “Come Together” and “Here Comes the sun”.

Stan Rogers Songbooka true pioneer of Canadian folk music, rogers crafted beautiful Maritime songs like “Fogarty’s Cove”, “Barrett’s Privateers” and “northwest Passage”.

The National Theatre of the World presents The Carnegie Hall Show, an improvised meta-variety show that satirizes the gala retrospective not unlike The Lincoln or Kennedy Centre Honours. Every night is a night to celebrate when it’s a night at Carnegie Hall!
